Celtic were looking for a right back throughout the second half of last term, but in the early weeks of his tenure, Brendan considered Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko sufficient for the season ahead. Mikael is four years into a successful Celtic career but his fitness issues are of a persistent nature. We’ve reached Peak Swede.
Saidy missed lot of last season, also through injury, but he showed potential in his early outing this term. Aspirations for the lad crystallised in Israel last week, but not in a good way. I’m not going to defend him, because he was unquestionably poor, but agreement only exists on his poor showing because he was prepared to receive the ball so often. Not everyone in black that night was as keen to get on the end of a pass.
That opened the door for Cristian Gamboa, 26, second choice right back for West Brom. We’re very keen, apparently. West Brom manager, Tony Pulis, is less in need of a full back whose key attribute is getting forward at speed. Horses for course, I suppose, West Brom face different challenges than Celtic.
Two rumours have circulated this week: Celtic are looking for a midfield player and James McCarthy’s position at Everton is less secure than it was a year ago. Whoever has been linking these two facts has overreached – or made them up. Celtic have no idea where this one came from but were clear, there’s nothing in it. Getting the right midfielder remains a task in hand, but usual caveats apply. There are no guarantees we’ll land all our targets this summer.

When I get home I’m going to dig out the book from one of my many unpacked boxes and read it again.
I’ll try to download In Patagonia on my Kindle, alond with Blood Meridian, Nobody Writes to the Colonel and the complete works of Mario Vargas Llosa… CQN is costing me a fortune today :)
See what happens when you make a smart-arse comment about reading back on the nightshift???

Yes, well said. Young Janko never hid; kept that fine engine of his running.
Plenty of abuse because he was having a poor game, but he was isolated, exposed and facing two marauding Israelites (see what I did there, Bible fans?) every time they came at us – which was practically 90 minutes worth of pressure.
Also received plenty of abuse becasue he was one of the FEW prepared NOT to hide.
There’s quite a few other players you won’t remember shouting at last Tuesday due to the fact you never saw them…
Just hearing that Senderos has, wait, what, nope, sorry, carry on.
They can call themselves what they like, we all know the reality.
Im calling them dirty cheating lying scum.

@CelticRockRoars Hey guys – looks like Hernanes will be going to Genoa. They’re balking at his wages but if Rincon goes to Palace, it’s done

In terms of consequences, they paid those in full.
In terms of punishment? Ha! That’s a joke.
They got away with everything.

James, I agree with most of what you say in your post; however something that I have long held belief on in terms of the survival myth is the idea of punishment. IMHO, there is none and nor should there be.
The old club is dead; the new club rightly started in the 4th tier and agreed to take on the footballing debts/fines of the old club. That’s as it should be.
Those are the consequences of the old club going out of business and out of the league.
If we are arguing that they are a new club (which they are) we defeat our own argument if we attempt to punish the new entity for the failures and misdemeanours (sic) of the old entity. We can’t have our cake and eat it.
This is a cogent argument to use with them when they argue against Sevco being punished: they weren’t as we cannot punish a dead club. Starting in the 4th tier was a consequence for the new club, not a punishment for the old club.
It generally induces frothing at the mouth.

Celtic’s croatian defender Simunovic currently having medicals with Torino
Yes, we all call them Sevco, and that’s fine but it’s no longer the legal name (rightly or wrongly) so nobody else is.

To be fair to Sevco, they can still sign Senderos after the window has shut since he is a free agent, no?
Question is…which transfer window?

Italian media reporting that Simunovic is undergoing his medical for Torino. Not sure I get that one. We’re not exactly strong in that position right now and Simunovic is supposed to be the one with huge potential, we didn’t get to see him at full strength. Unless that’s the problem? Someone at the club is worried he’s not going to recover?
It would make sense if we were making big money on him but as far as I know we paid a good whack and if we’re making anything it will be minimal… and we’ll then need to replace him within the next day and a bit. We can’t go into the CL minus Jozo and rely on the aforementioned not getting injured.
Why haven’t we ‘swooped’ for any Accrington Galacticos they’ve a vast wealth of d̶i̶d̶d̶i̶e̶s̶ talent.
