Game against Newco unlikely to be postponed

169

Despite reports to the contrary this morning, as things stand, the prospect of Celtic being able to cancel the rescheduled game against Newco on 2 February is significantly below 50%.  All other things being equal, Tom Rogic should be with the Australia squad for their game a day earlier and Kyogo Furuhashi should be with Japan.

It has been two years since Yosuke Ideguchi was involved with the Japan national team.  Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have both been part of the Japan Under-23 squad in recent months.  None of the players signed on Friday are expected to be called up for the Japan World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia on 1 February.

Celtic need three or more players called up for international duty before they can apply for a postponement.  There is also the prospect that currently-injured Kyogo is not fit for the Japan squad.  If the game was tomorrow, the likelihood is that only Tom Rogic would be missing for permissible reasons, leaving Celtic two signings short of a cancellation.

Rogic and Kyogo have been the sugar in our tea this season, without them, we are significantly less potent, but we have a month to prepare.  Bring it on.

I don’t know if you get a cap if you’re on the bench. Bassey was an unused sub in Nigeria’s 2 World Cup Qualifiers against the Central African Republic. I couldn’t be arsed looking up any more of their games.

  2. Interesting month coming up.

Good start with the three players AP wanted from the J League all done and dusted.

Hopefully the next act will be more players in rather than money out for the two loanees.

With cash tight CCV @ £6mill is looking a bit rich for me with our current situation.

Hopefully we have a more realistic figure in the loan deal.

The squad is still paper thin in some areas plus some of last season’s lack of focus / energy / attitude still lingers among some of the players.

We still need a bit of bite in the MF and a bit of height in the defence.

Plus sort out the GK squad — SB just does not do it for me at any level.

Plus some new blood for the B Team to deepen the squad and fill in the gaps.

Seeing JD play the game he did at 18 offers hope for the future — hopefully there is / are more to come.

Not sure if the exec team are fully conversant with a growth agenda but progress is being made.

The streaming of some home games will provide data on a future income stream.

Plus 3 wins in the EuL will bring in some real money — hopefully we spend it well.

The Japanese angle will be huge if we work it properly.

KF paid back his transfer with just his non league goals this season already.

Biggest issue in the squad is the situation with JF — he looks to be in a bad place physically and regarding his appetite for the game and his confidence.

Time to unleash the beast — bring back PR.

He was the KF of 2016/17 and we could do with his influence.

He would allow JF to find his focus once again.

Plus he is cheap and we owe him something.

6 points = huge gap with SPL title now at 45%.

If it had remained at 4 then — to me — we would have been 52% favourites.

Everything pointing to a one game season — next game vs TFOD2.1 @ CP sorry P/head.

We win and we give them the fear.

Unfortunately Ludge MIB know this as well.

    Nothing is ever easy.

Another 3 first team candidates in ASAP and we have more than a shout.

Got to be on the park m8, anyway can’t see them needing him!

  4. Of course I would rather have a full complement of players to select from but, if most of our injured players recover during this break, then we can afford to lose some for the African Nations` Cup…..even of the calibre of Big Tom and Wee Kyogo.

I only got 4/1 when Chelsea were 1-0 down.

A Cracking game – Both teams are really going for it. The way fitba should be.

These Referees are killing the game in Scotland.

From the book ‘More Morton Greats’. A team photo from the early 70s with two Lisbon Lions and also the likes of Davie Hayes, George Anderson, Joe Mason etc. but what makes me laugh is the wee long haired boay in the shape of Neil McNab.

  8. As for the issue Re Feb 2nd

Signing the Aussie international lad lad Boyle from Hibs would solve it surely ?

It would ensure we could get the game cancelled and hopefully lead to a decider month similar to 2008 with 2 games at CP in the final 5 weeks of the season !

He might also play wide right ?

  9. The White Cafu to Everton is the rumour, probably £35 million……he would need about 9 months in the gym to play in that league

  10. will be about £4 million plus add ons, right now i would have Ralston every day of the week

One area where we all need to learn — how to nurture / develop / introduce / mature very talented players into the team.

Too many see it as a circus act where 13 year olds playing in U20 games is seen as a sign of future greatness — rather than being seen as a precocious talent that will need maturing.

Then when they struggle to develop and kick on it becomes a competition to see who can insult them the most.

Football talent does not mean a developed and mature personality.

That needs to be coached as much as the football stuff.

RA / PMcS — could handle playing regular / first team senior football at 17 and 18.

The tragedy regarding GC was that he could handle the breakthrough but he struggled to handle the longer term pressures and was not supported in a constructive manner when it all started to go wrong.

Boot up the erse vs arm around the shoulder — discuss?

With the benefit of 45 years of hindsight — the wage structure caused all of this.

DH was not given the wage he wanted — the same as BMcN / captain’s wage — and was shown the door.

DH was GC’s best pal in the dressing room and the rest was the tragedy of his loss to football.

KD got the captain’s wage in 75 and that kept him at the club for two years.

Old Board — same lack of a growth agenda.

  14. Sky reporting 12 upfront for Paterson with another 4 in add ons.

That’s some business for a 20yo with 27 senior appearances in his career. A lad kept out of the team every week by Tav (pen).

Everton look as badly run off the pitch as they do on it, going by this deal.

Sky reporting 12 upfront for Paterson with another 4 in add ons.

AN DUN, any remote possibility that the report is a pail of urine, produced to make the Hun feel better about itself? Not that SKY ever previously misreported something positive about the Hun of course.

  16. I suppose when you see Kenny started for them today at RB then their desperation begins to make more sense.

I know the English league are a wash with cash but my team Everton are no that daft, sounds more pish from Sky, no surprise there.

The more of these nonsense stories from the press the more the hun must be desperate for cash. However they have religiously overplayed their hand in the estimations for their dross.

Reminds me of working night shift in Finefare and when one individual would shake his hand when his cards were good. I’ll stop playing….
