Game against Newco unlikely to be postponed

169

Despite reports to the contrary this morning, as things stand, the prospect of Celtic being able to cancel the rescheduled game against Newco on 2 February is significantly below 50%.  All other things being equal, Tom Rogic should be with the Australia squad for their game a day earlier and Kyogo Furuhashi should be with Japan.

It has been two years since Yosuke Ideguchi was involved with the Japan national team.  Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have both been part of the Japan Under-23 squad in recent months.  None of the players signed on Friday are expected to be called up for the Japan World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia on 1 February.

Celtic need three or more players called up for international duty before they can apply for a postponement.  There is also the prospect that currently-injured Kyogo is not fit for the Japan squad.  If the game was tomorrow, the likelihood is that only Tom Rogic would be missing for permissible reasons, leaving Celtic two signings short of a cancellation.

Rogic and Kyogo have been the sugar in our tea this season, without them, we are significantly less potent, but we have a month to prepare.  Bring it on.

  2. Am I getting this right ?

Patterson upwards of £ 10 million to Everton . Blah blah blah

Jota back in Portugal , we won’t be signing him because …blah blah blah

And the game against the hun will go ahead no matter how many players we’ve got missing

    Not …

  3. I agree with posts about Jota and Patterson.

2 stories portrayed differently to get 2 different reactions from fans.

    1 about doom and gloom.

    1 about feel good factor.

I will let you all guess what is what.

  4. Jota heading over for a check up with his parent club is pretty much par for the course with loanees and injuries. I don’t see the story here but I guess with Celtic announcing three signings in one day, some media needed another headline.

  5. Shaw, Henderson and Urhoghide all to leave this go this January says rumour mill ? Henderson’s contract up in June and will go to Hibs it says. The 2 ex-SW bhoys to join 7 others out on loan.

Will Johnstone and Dembele join them on loan ?

Barkas, Soro, Bolingoli and Ajeti for the exit too I’d imagine (if we can), never to remain.

I’d imagine we’re stuck with McCarthy though until Turnbull comes back.

McGregor, Bitton, Harate, Rogic, Ideguchi & McCarthy for 3 slots. 7 come March.

Need exits as much as incomings in Jan.

  6. Couldn’t agree more regarding the puff pieces in the rags – Ewan Graham in the Times manages to mention half a Diogenes young ‘world class’ Scots for the future without a mention of the one who is a first pick right back and goalscorer! Of the top two he does a when Harry met Sally about, one isn’t even at his own team (and can’t get a game for fn Norwich) the other has played a handful of first team games.

  9. Don’t see any way back for the 7 loanees come the summer :

    Doohan & O’Connor (Tranmere)

    Robertson (Crewe)

    Coffey (Cork)

    Connell (Queens Park)

    Afolabi (Ayr)

Griffiths (Dundee – contract expires ate nd of season anyhoo).

  10. 3 slots at the top of the park:

Maeda, Giakomakis, Kyogo, Abada, Johnston, Forrest, Dembele and Ajeti..

    Something’s gotta give.

  11. Main issue about the club at the moment is that we need to play more football / more competitive football.

The SWx2 are the biggest questions we have at the moment about who and how we are running the club?

Questions have to be asked about why did we buy them and what were the development plans we had for their progress — all that we seem to have is that they were cross border punts based on a loophole in the compensation rules.

What was the scouting report — were they seen as being first team candidates in their season or was the development timeline measured in decades?

We bring them in and then we do next to nothing with them — not a good look for us and not a good experience for them. At least LS at a couple of years older has managed to get on the pitch and play a part active part in the team.

Then you have the issue of the B team finding the Lowland League a challenge with good results being hard won against a wide variety of opposition — this would suggest to me that the B team are a bit under cooked at the moment and in need of some reinforcements.

Solution — appearance money for the B team and a re-jig of both squads?

We should be tearing up the Lowland League with the resources we have.

Not sure if it is ability or attitude that is holding us back.

OM is a good data point — class player in the B team who lacks a bit of pace / physical presence in the SPL.

JD is a contrast — not a standout in the B team who can do a job in the SPL.

Consequently tough gig this armchair manager lark.

To answer the original question — big up the B team to the point that they score goals for fun.

Run an U19/U20 team out of the same squad and keep them all moving.

  12. BW @ 11.55

What does that say about our ability to develop players?

This is just EPL talent hoovering on the cheap.

What about JK @ 18 — talk is we have bought him and he has a lot of talent?

Where will he be after 2 years with us — in the matchday squad or at Tranmere?

I have no confidence in the youth coaching set up.

The tone of the place comes from the Glee Club at St N’s — not the coaching staff.

    Not good.

  13. Regarding youth progression — surly all the loan players cannot just be stiffs?

And there are the Klingons who NL bigged up but have not delivered.

Only time AP goes tonto this season — EH’s 15 minute cameo in the EuL dead rubber.

Binary performance — defending he made AM look good and he was having a shocker before he was taken off.

Attacking the 18 yard box and he showed a bit of desire and promise.

Consequently boot up the erse time or maybe SerB beckons for the warmer weather.

He has been here too long and done next to nothing even as NL destroyed the club around him.

    Not good.
