Gameplan: drop to the floor in the box

I get why Derek McInnes was so animated in claiming for a penalty on Saturday.  For the second weekend in a row, we watched Kilmarnock players put body between ball and opponent, then drop to the floor.  It was a tactic that broke play up, won them possession and provided the ability to push forward into Celtic territory.

None of this constitutes foul play (see this fine example by Lint on Twitter).  It was also not an incident VAR were able to get involved with.  The referee saw it and made his decision.  VAR is only able to get involved if a clear and obvious error has occurred.  It wasn’t, it was just a decision the Kilmarnock manager didn’t like.

There are lots of caveats available when assessing the Celtic performance.  The conditions were awful, which contributed to the pitch cutting up early on.  We are clearly missing Greg Taylor on the left, Alexandro Bernabei looked to be a long way from Rosario under the Hampden lights.

A feature of our play the week before against Kilmarnock was low cross balls into the box, which eventually paid dividends.  These were forgone at Hampden for high and aimless crossing that was never going to be productive.

We were fortunate at the first goal – fortunate that Aaron Mooy’s cross fell to Kilmarnock’s Kyle Lafferty.  He chose not to attack the ball and instead let it drop before clearing into the net off the chest of Daizen Maeda.

After that moment, Kilmarnock made more of an attempt to play football, but their best chance was always going to be convincing the officials to award a penalty.  It is not exactly an honourable plan, but given the disparity in quality between the squads, you see why McInnes went down this road.

I think you’re prob right; there may very well be a release that allows him to chase a starting berth and better money at a non-prohibitive selling price. At 4mill, we may just have recouped our buy fee plus his total wages over his time here?

4m doesnt seem a lot for a brawny striker these days but if Urawa are the only ones putting an offer up – and he wants to move on for whatever reason – it makes sense to take the cash rather than have him leave for zilch as we saw with Boyata and, virtually, Jullien.

The trouble with the GG story….there are many tails; did he refuse a extended contract; personal family reasons; lack of game time stops his development.

    Who knows………. 🤔

  4. GG has been the only success that I can think of in that £2-3 million striker bracket which has been a graveyard for us over the last ten years and more.

I don’t buy the idea that GG is a disruption or taking the huff, he’s continued to give his all as we seen only two days ago.

Leaving ourselves reliant on Kyogo alone is bonkers. The least we should be doing right now is telling GG he’s going nowhere till his replacement has signed.

No need to sell he is under contract for another 3 years the 4m fee is low for a goalscoreer ,Ajeti cost 5Million

Seems we are gullible to the meeja and swallow by some.jackson ffs .

I dont want GG to go anywhere at this point all i have read is unsourced and speculation.

Its an odd one,we dont read it or listen, but nigh on every written piece is a hopeful journalism pash

  9. F___K Thiis is Celtic have agreed a fee with another club for G. G a lousy £4 Million well that tells it all this fucking Irishman Desmond needs to be replaced along with a few cronies on the board,This man Peter Lawell 2 minutes back in the club and we are selling one of our good players, with Juranavics possibly leaving to,I’m beginning to wonder if our club is in really good financial shap, and for Ange if this transfer is true you are just like the rest of the coaches to tow the board line,

-48 goal difference, worst in the division, but scored more goals than the team that finished 7th of 18 teams.

Pinched from under the noses of Ajax

It’s only a bad deal and we have no idea of the details, if this window closes and we don’t have a better replacement. I’m sure Ange has more than one target, in his sights.

Why are no other big clubs in the bidding? and why ‘only ‘ a J league team? , from where we’ve bought in the same price range?

The ‘better’ replacement will be signed for a price within our budget, that includes a salary like the one GG is apparently unhappy with, but he won’t be expected to be better than Kyogo.

Celtic supporters want fantasy, but we have to live in the real world, where some clubs can’t get a bid never mind a high one.

    So the Peter Lawwell obsession

    Hail Hail Tom

Would you care to explain why no one at Celtic are publicly taking issue with how the police did nothing other than arrest 2 people for minor drug offences?

Could you point to who in a position of Authority in Scotland is publicly taking Police Scotland to task about this.

In the 21rst century it is important to be able to learn, unlearn and relearn.

Happy to change my mind about Desmond 2 cheques bag man.

Point me to the public evidence that Peter or our club are doing anything to keep our fans players and staff safe anything at all Tom.

    Same with the cheating officials.

I have lived down South for over 30 years now.

My obsession isn’t Peter Lawel it is tackling bigotry.

I will be Donald Ducked before I am prepared to have my children sit at the back of the bus

Where is the statement from Celtic after Liam Scales was assaulted?

    F*ck every Orangewan.

Callum is Genius more than Words can Davie Hay.

and some believe he is selling the players against the managers wishes, maybe bullying Nicholson the CEO, acting out Desmonds greater plan, and colluding with whoever owns Rangers now to ensure “an old firm future”.

and hiring Parks busses, and not calling the police, the judiciary, the scottish government, uefa, the sfa, ant and dec, te RMT and Mick Lynch to account.

    useless bassa

Eh He is on loan to Aberdeen.

Have they said anything? Jim Goodwin? Nope.

Have you ever known of Celtic to comment on one of their loan players? Involved in another game?

I cant recall any.if you know of any just say,i could be wrong

  22. I can think of a way to draw attention to the cheating in our game without hurting our club..

    I very rarely gamble.

What is the absolute minimum amount that it would be possible to place on The zombies to get a penalty against us next time we play them

If enough of us went onto to 32 RED online and placed a 1p a 10 p bet (is that possible).

Not sure if this would work but my thinking is to place a bet that is so small it costs the firm 32 Red more than the bet to process.

Harming the zombies by hurting one of ra peepuls sponsors whilst drawing attention to the cheating by

Creating a statistical anomaly if enough of us did this.

    Would this work?

BIGJIMMY what is the minimum amount you can bet for something online.

I have no idea none as to how to get the poodles in our board to act to ensure the safety of out fans players and staff

  23. AT- theres been a few times where I wanted to go Box the Aiberdeen support on Springy Road.

    Idiotic possee,

Thankfully I huv a Son that is Wise.

  24. From the Deloitte graphics there are a few categories that are very modern and interesting.

Percentage of Board members from ethnic minorites and percentage of female board members.

Liecster has 75% ethnic and 25% female.

it is a bit of false reporting though to call a billionaire from malaysia and his foreign employees as an “ethnic minority”. And one woman.

another segment is “Signatory of UN climate change Sports ” something or other.

My problem with going back to PL is they played it safe, they went with a guy with all the experience of Celtic PLC, but no fresh eyes or youthful (in board member terms) input, maybe someone from a completely different industry, or sport.

It remains jobs for the bhoys, acolytes of DD, appointments by the owners.

I personally doubt PL gets to influence the strategies, he has to play by the rules as a Chairman, be independent.
