Gang of 10 changes will destroy Celtic

374

The BBC today report that the Gang of 10 SPL clubs have agreed a plan to re-write the rulebook of Scottish football in order to parachute Sevco into the second tier of the game.  They also report that Hibernian, Rod Petrie, briefed Charles Green of Sevco on their conditions to accept his company.  These conditions involve paying Rangers football debts and fines.

The plan involved the most almighty reorganisation of the league structure in order to gain enough support from lower league clubs to entice them to agree to place Sevco in the First Division.  They also want to take YOUR money in perpetuity to buy votes from lower league clubs, and have included a provision to allow them to vote for a share of home gates – all to establish a club called ‘Rangers’.

Crucially, the SFA, led by president Campbell Ogilvie and chief exec, Stewart Regan, have colluded in this scheme by not instructing the Appellate Panel to convene to consider Rangers punishment after the Court of Sessions told them to do so 30 days ago.  It is expected the Appellate Panel will suspend ‘Rangers’ from football for a year when it convenes.

The Gang of 10’s plan would require Rangers to withdraw their objection to the initial Appellate Panel ruling but it would also require the independent judicial overview of Scottish football to end before action is taken against the club for illegally registering players for over a decade, or for improper use of EBTs to scape social taxes, both of which are likely to expel the club.

Disciplinary rules cannot be changed because ‘Rangers’ are about to be punished.  Leagues cannot be restructured to allow a team bearing the name ‘Rangers’ an easy passage to the top.  This is no longer sport.

The utter stupidity of this scheme is staggering.  They are making plans with a man who owns a stadium but who cannot call on any supporters.  They are about to wreck Scottish football for a company who have yet to establish their financial viability.

Your money is being bargained away by every club in the SPL apart from Celtic.  Are you happy about this?  Will you continue to pay for Sky TV or ESPN?  Will you continue to buy tickets to attend away games?  Will you ever attend a League Cup or Scottish Cup game again?

Celtic paid their bills and conducted their business fairly and properly.  Be under no illusion, these changes will destroy the Celtic you recognise.  Forget your Champions League trips, you’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel with ‘Sevco Rangers’ in a few years.  We cannot be exploited in this way.

It’s time the entire edifice of Scottish football was brought asunder, better that than be subject to random acts of destruction.  I cannot support any operation funding this enterprise so I’m cancelling Sky Sports and ESPN.

You obviously haven´t noticed I would suggest that you are not prepared to even countenance but the Celtic support moved on 20 years ago. The Rest of Scotland didn´t. Still hasn´t.

  6. If this is pushed through I believe there will be no SPL football played next season. All competitions wil be played out in a court-room that will see an injunction after injunction.

SKY and ESPN will have nothing to broadcast.

Cancelled them weeks ago. I feel you are forgetting the fans. No-one wants them. Partick Thistle fans have stated they will boycott EVERY game including their own if they drop into Division 1.

It is a desperate pipe dream that cannot even be put in place until the following season at best.

Paul67 – You seem to be oscillating wildly between elation and despair.

    Let’s not be so hasty.

Let’s look at the awesome facts:

    * Rangers FC is gone

    * New Rangers FC is a pauperised shadow of the oldclub and Scottish football is a rocky place in which its seed might find no purchase

    * Celtic are champions

    * Football will still be played at Celtic Park next year, Ibrox could just as easily be an Asda

Can you give us a clue as to Celtic Football Club PLC reaction to this.

The time must be getting close now for our club to make a public stand. Otherwise they will be seen to be offering tacit approval by doing nothing.

As well as SKY sports I may be handing back over my season books soon unless my club can assure me that they (as I believe they have) acted with honesty and integrity.

  13. This is scandalous I had to read it twice, what an absolute stitch up, are these peeeple out of touch with reality, the Scottish leagues will be destroyed if this comes to pass. I’d like to hear Celtics response to this. HH

  14. Time to go Celtic if this farce is allowed to pass. Why should we prop up clubs that seek to shaft us?

So much for the Gang of Ten and “sporting integrity” eh? That said, surely the Hibees will be furious with Petrie if he is indeed party to this as the BBC claim.

Can see why Peter Lawwell has been silent; perhaps he didn’t want any association with the GOT as he knew what they were up to?

Paul67, can you see Celtic making any comments on these proposals, or are we busy looking for another league to play in?

  15. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

A raft of changes to the league setup have been drawn up by Scottish football’s three top bodies which would involve Rangers playing in the First Division this season.

STV understands clubs have received a letter from Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan, following talks with his SPL and SFL counterparts Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir respectively.

They propose a significant overhaul of the Scottish league structure, which would also see the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League merge by the start of the 2013/14 season.

Charles Green, who purchased Rangers’ assets from the old company recently, had applied for the club’s member share of the SPL to be transferred to his new business.

That move required an 8-4 majority vote of top flight clubs but enough teams have already declared they will vote no on July 4, leaving Green to look to the SFL for a league place.

It is understood however that a compromise could be found which would instead see Rangers, who are still shareholders of the SPL, formally relegated to the second tier in exchange for a modification to financial distribution and the immediate introduction of a play-off between the top two divisions.

The SPL are also understood to have proposed paying close to £1m to include Rangers’ First Division games in their current TV deal with Sky and ESPN.

I thought Regan was on holiday ?

  16. Time for Celtic to make a statement. If this goes through then Scottish football is finished. I agree with the Partick fans, all football should be boycotted if this happens.

  17. Campbell Ogilvie and Jim Ballantyne.

Just 2 of the many reasons Scottish football is all over the place.

    I pity you your bitterness.

  19. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

On the contrary, let’s be hasty.

The position is simply this. If Scottish football itself can be utterly restructured to prevent what has to be done, all in order to help Rangers, do you think it matters at all whether they are in the SPL or SFL League One? Do you think it matters at all who they can put out on the park, what the financial state of the club is or how many fans follow that club week in week out ?

Do you think it matters what we think about it ? What a single supporter thinks about it ? Do you think the game in Scotland will ever be clean ?

Corruption will have been cemented – forever.

Rangers place as the most influencial club in the land will be formalised – forever.

Celtic, all of us, will be paying until Rangers is once again bigger than us – forever, if that’s what it takes.

This is not even ABOUT Rangers anymore. The fans have made their positions on this matter CRYSTAL CLEAR. They are being ignored, all of us included.

I cannot overstate how devastating these proposals are. I was optimistic the other day, delighted that the clubs were listening to the supporters, that the rulers of our game accepted changes needed to be made … and that fairness and justice should be the foundation stones of the new game.

None of that matters now. The game is more corrupt than it has ever been. All those times we imagined the SPL, SFA, SFL as a cabal of Rangers interests, all doing their bit to help the cause … we didn’t know the half of it.

What we are seeing now is the final anointing of Rangers as the most influencial and powerful club in the land, and it has nothing to do with how much money they have in the bank or what they can put on the park. Even rudderless, leaderless, without money, without even a support for all we know … even with none of that, they still carry all the weight they need.

Today is a shameful day for Scottish football, and I am going to open the flood gates here with this next remark … and a shameful day for Celtic if we do not make our position on it clear. It is past due.

  20. Im that angry just now Im shaking.

If this latest corrupt scam doesn’t work they will try something else to make sure Celtic pay for the huns crimes.

This latest nonsense cannot be allowed to gather pace.

Celtic have to get all the fans onside now, with their silence the support is split.

    Totally scunnered!!

Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie has hinted that his club will take a dim view of any “newco” proposals and will “do the right thing” in the interests of sporting integrity.

SPL clubs are due to vote on possible sanctions for “newco” clubs at a meeting on May 30 and a decision will also be taken on members voting to allow new companies to assume the share of former clubs if necessary.

With Rangers prospective owner Charles Green having said that he would pursue a “newco” route if he fails to agree a CVA with the club’s creditors, public opinion is split over how the SPL should handle any application for a vote share.

Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston has already stated that he would consider the financial implications of any decision but Petrie has underlined his feelings on sporting integrity and hinted that Hibernian would oppose a “newco” arrangement.

“That’s fundamental to us at our club, to make sure the integrity of the game is not called into question and that the sporting integrity of the competition we take part in is maintained at the highest standards,” Petrie told the BBC.

“It’s not a question of any sum of money in return for that integrity – integrity is beyond purchase.

“It’s important that all clubs can have a place within football, provided they have earned it in a sporting sense and also have abided by the rules.”

The club chairman said that taking into account the feelings of fans would be key to any decision Hibs take.

“It’s vital part of what we do, listening to supporters,” he added.

“It’s important we understand what they are thinking and it’s also important we are able to explain the dynamics of the landscape in front of us.

“If we are called upon to make any decisions we will try to do the right thing and uphold the integrity of the competition that we are engaged in.”

First division games are due to begin in 6 weeks or so.

I don’t believe there’s time to restructure the whole of Scottish football between now and then just to shoehorn a “Rangers” team into the first division.
