Gang of 10 changes will destroy Celtic

374

The BBC today report that the Gang of 10 SPL clubs have agreed a plan to re-write the rulebook of Scottish football in order to parachute Sevco into the second tier of the game.  They also report that Hibernian, Rod Petrie, briefed Charles Green of Sevco on their conditions to accept his company.  These conditions involve paying Rangers football debts and fines.

The plan involved the most almighty reorganisation of the league structure in order to gain enough support from lower league clubs to entice them to agree to place Sevco in the First Division.  They also want to take YOUR money in perpetuity to buy votes from lower league clubs, and have included a provision to allow them to vote for a share of home gates – all to establish a club called ‘Rangers’.

Crucially, the SFA, led by president Campbell Ogilvie and chief exec, Stewart Regan, have colluded in this scheme by not instructing the Appellate Panel to convene to consider Rangers punishment after the Court of Sessions told them to do so 30 days ago.  It is expected the Appellate Panel will suspend ‘Rangers’ from football for a year when it convenes.

The Gang of 10’s plan would require Rangers to withdraw their objection to the initial Appellate Panel ruling but it would also require the independent judicial overview of Scottish football to end before action is taken against the club for illegally registering players for over a decade, or for improper use of EBTs to scape social taxes, both of which are likely to expel the club.

Disciplinary rules cannot be changed because ‘Rangers’ are about to be punished.  Leagues cannot be restructured to allow a team bearing the name ‘Rangers’ an easy passage to the top.  This is no longer sport.

The utter stupidity of this scheme is staggering.  They are making plans with a man who owns a stadium but who cannot call on any supporters.  They are about to wreck Scottish football for a company who have yet to establish their financial viability.

Your money is being bargained away by every club in the SPL apart from Celtic.  Are you happy about this?  Will you continue to pay for Sky TV or ESPN?  Will you continue to buy tickets to attend away games?  Will you ever attend a League Cup or Scottish Cup game again?

Celtic paid their bills and conducted their business fairly and properly.  Be under no illusion, these changes will destroy the Celtic you recognise.  Forget your Champions League trips, you’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel with ‘Sevco Rangers’ in a few years.  We cannot be exploited in this way.

It’s time the entire edifice of Scottish football was brought asunder, better that than be subject to random acts of destruction.  I cannot support any operation funding this enterprise so I’m cancelling Sky Sports and ESPN.

But will they get all those votes?

We already have Division 1 sides saying no to newco and I expect more to follow. Division 2 and 3 sides won’t get anything out of this so why should they vote yes unless they have a Rangers supporting Chairman (a few do but not that many).

If fans from SPL clubs know their club backs the proposals then more than a few season tickets will be getting handed back pronto. The all know that their turnstile revenue is vital and to go against the wishes of the fans is suicide. Celtic know this all too well.

Fan power can kill this because like with top flight clubs the fans of the lower league sides are the clubs’ lifeblood.

Social media will still have a large role to play.

This is the last throw of the dice for the old world order of Scottish football.

    Now we wait and see.

  2. i have the feeling celtics morals and integrity will be tested shortly, and will be found wanting, if i am wrong i will publicly apologise to them on this very blogg.

Do UEFA and/or FIFA care what’s going on in Scottish Football? Or is it, in their opinion, a domestic dispute where domestic ‘law makers’ (in this case a heavily conflicted SFA / SPL) resolve the issues at hand?

  4. I can’t quite get my head around this bit – the SFA have just been told in court “Don’t make up rules as you go” so the tranfer ban gets pulled and now the BBC are saying that some more rules have been dreamt up on the spot involving relegation from the SPL?

I thought the rules on relegation were pretty clear. Get the fewest points and down you go, the only thing that could relegate them was if they had inproper registrations.

If they do get ‘relegated’ in the manner being suggested I would expect legal action from Dundee if Dunfermline were re-instated and vice versa.

Oh and we already have several SFL1 clubs objecting.

This strikes me as kite flying, the BBC are being fed soft soap stories to boost blue moral.

Remember we still the BTC to formally announce, once they do I would expect a huge amount of information to come in to the public domain either as part of the announcement or as a result of FOI requests. If there is a case to answer on dual contracts that should be revealed from there.

Additionally we have already had an announcement of prima facia case to answer, the SFA/SPL aren’t in a position to simply make that go away because they are not the only ones holding the information and announcing that there is a prima facia case of that nature against a club that was a regular competitor in european competitions means that other agencies become at least interested in the matter.

There may well be groundswell of hooligans in high places that want some form of Glasgow Hunnery but that does not neccessarily translate into a done deal.

In order to even have the SFA look at him he will have to pay the original fine of £160k which was given the green light (sic) by the court of session, he will also have to honour the contracts of those who have TUPE’d across, all of this without any visible income.

Does Charles Green strike anyone as a man who would dip into his own pocket?

They have no credit facility, no bank will touch them with a barge pole and the SFA still have no assurance from D&P over his fit and proper status.

Right now I’m fairly relaxed that they are too far in for this type of rescue.

Chill bhoys, remember we are only at the start of act 2 and as yet the main baddie hasn’t even taken centre stage.

  5. Lads it’s pointless thinking about boycotts just now to teams in the lower division because for all we know they may feel the same as we do just now.

Our best bet is to get in touch with their supporters club rep and get their thoughts on this.

Paul its too late for rangers to withdraw their objection to the intial panel ruling, even if they wanted to its now been established by a court that punishment cant be levied.

    Couple of points.

Rangers in administration cant be relegated there is no mechanism for that.

Rangers will not get voted into the Spl.

A new club can only start in one place by applying for entry to the bottom league.

That should be the substance of any Celtic comment.

We as a support have the potential if united to wield an almighty financial club.

En masse subscription withdrawl should be used towards Skye and Espn if this corrupt solution comes to pass.

I’m not opoposed in principle to away teams getting a share of the gates for league matches. It’s only comparitively recently that home teams kept the whole gate. We also need to remember that we DO need the other teams in the SPL – who are we going to play against if they’re gone?

What I cannot accept though is anything less than Sevco FC starting in Division 3.

I actually think that’s being generous to them – there are long-established, well-run clubs in Scotland who are far more deserving of a place in the SFL than Hunco, but if they are allowed to enter Division 3, then the integrity of the league system can survive that.

What it can’t survive is Sevco jumping the queue. If Sevco is imposed on Division 1 (and I’ve serious doubts that the required majority of SFL clubs will agree to it anyway), then we must get UEFA and FIFA invovled. Because otherwise the game in Scotland is dead.

  12. Sky sports and espn cancelled. Explained clearly to girl (Motherwell fan apparently) I will only return if and when Scottish football has clarity

AndyM – This strikes me as kite flying, the BBC are being fed soft soap stories to boost blue moral.

Seems that way to me as well.

It wasn’t that long ago the media “understood” that Craig Whyte was a billionaire.

They “understood” that HMRC would settle with Rangers.

They “understood” that Bill Ng, Bill Miller, the Blue Knights, or the Watty consortium would buy Rangers.

    And so on.

There are still a huge number of practical obstacles facing Charlie Green getting his newclub into a position where it is able to play any competitive football at any level next season.

    I’m chillaxed.

    (thumbsup)

  15. Surely, this is challengable in a legal sense?

The SPL are trying to suggest that devolving power to a new merged authority take only 8 votes? That can’t possibly true otherwise in the last few years the GoT would have done just that to get the voting system changed.

By the constitution I’d be astonished if such a major change did not require 11 votes.

All it requires to reject the changes proposed is Celtic and one other (incidentally Aberdeen were adamant that Rangers would start in Div 3 if they had anything to do with it).

However, I’m not sure how that helps us over gate receipts… once Rangers are out there is nothing that Celtic can do… I’d like to think it could be challenged under some form of ‘Restraint of Trade’ in European Court but I suspect you’d need one heck of a case.

  17. CLUBS across the SFL were today warned to listen to furious fans or risk losing scores of supporters as the Rangers newco debate heats up.

The news that the Ibrox side could be set to parachute into the Irn-Bru First Division next season, as part of a radical plan that would overhaul Scottish football, has been met with anger by disgruntled punters, many of whom are keen to see the Gers start life in the Third Division.

  18. PRESS STATEMENT

The Scottish Football League can confirm that no agreement has been reached between The SFL and any other body regarding the position of Rangers Newco in the First Division.

Consultation will continue to take place, primarily with our clubs, as previously advised.

  19. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Wel Mr.Ogylvie is doing a great job but the question is for whom? The answer is newco. This is a man who was at the heart of the tax fraud at Ibrox and doesnt care if we know it or not. 21. Celtic should remain quiet on this matter until the most opportune time. Now is not the time for Celtic to make a move. Time is not on the side of the SFA/SPL/SFL. Timing will be everything. Be patient.

  22. BhoyinEngland on

My Sky, and ESPN are already cancelled.

I think we have to accept the fact that the SFA is as corrupt and dishonest as Rangers ever were.

They are attempting to subvert Celtic at every turn, and as Paul67 has stated, they are after our money. What other industry do you have to hand over your profits to your competition so they can remain in business?

The question now is what to do now? The implications are, that most Cetic supporters would support a boycott of away games. However, that wouldn’t alter the fact that Celtic would have to hand over money from their home games. Logic dictates that if the ground holds 60,000, and you support forms 95% of the people there, handing over huge sums of money just seems crazy. Only in Scotland.

One possible thought that I have is that we all should be in contact with EUFA. The SFA is not a fit and proper body, and should not be in charge of our game. The fact that Campbell Ogilvie was the recipient of an EBT whilst at Rangers, and yet he is involved in the censure (or ack of censure) of that club on behalf of the SFA, speaks volumes about the hypocrisy that is rife within the Scottish game.

Added to that, the grasping fingers of certain chairman of other Scottish clubs, and you have a recipe for disaster. Michel Platini talks of financial fairplay, but where is the fair play in this? If I wanted to support Kilmarnock, I would go and watch them. But I don’t. I want to support Celtic, and only Celtic, as I have done my entire life. Where is the financial fair play in seeing my money go to the opposition?

The gang of 10 are in dire straights without Celtic’s money because they have been lazy and complacent about they way they run their business. When they should have been establishing youth policies, and making themselves more watchable to people from outside Scotland. they didn’t. Instead the greedy chairmen of these clubs paid themsleves huge amounts of money. Now that their options have worn thin, they gang together to force the one team in Scotland, and one of the few teams in the UK, that is properly run within proper financial constraints, to sub them cash.

Time for EUFA, or FIFA to step in. The game is now so corrupt, it cannot continue. We had a revolution in 1994 that helped to save the club. We may be reaching that point again. However, this time the enemy is not within our own boardroom. This time the enemy is the board members of every one of the gang of 10 who votes to get their hands on our money.

We need creative thinking, and we need it now

  24. Snake Plissken on

The powers that be have missed the chance to do an even better thing for the game.

League reconstruction is good and vital for the game as are play-offs which will generate more wealth for the game.

If the SFA/SPL/SFL got together, merged and made bigger divisions (which the majority of fans claim they’d like) they could put Sevco into the bottom division and it would take them 2 years to get back to the top table. They canny play European football and by the time they were competitive in the top league again, things they would legitimately be able to qualify for European football again.

Instead they produce a mental plan which will fail in terms of timescale at the least. Fans will kill this stone dead as Twitter, Facebook and other places are already demonstrating.

They cannot even get this right.

Imagine following the Belgian league model as another poster proposed this morning and then introducing the bigger play offs. The top teams get a more competitive league, more fans through the gates and more money. The lower half and the lower divisions get play offs which allows them to offset the money lost from Celtic not coming to town more than once and eventually the new Rangers come up and spread the wealth around.

The TV deal with SKY becomes an irrelevance and with Dungcaster out of the way we might even get one as good as the one Denmark gets for a population of 5.5M and no teams of any world stature.

    BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

We have to get the usual craven pro-Rangers SFA doing what they have wanted to do all along – make all this go away.

There will be more than a few battles in the coming weeks for fans of all clubs.

Even the Rangers fans don’t want their new club to go to Div 1.

    That says it all.

  25. Ordinary Bhoy on

    Regan and Doncaster need replaced.

Scottish football fans have answered the call in recent days. Surely now is time for fans to voice their disgust to their boards regarding the guys at the top. If our clubs want they can change this.

“The utter stupidity of this scheme is staggering. They are making plans with a man who owns a stadium but who cannot call on any supporters. They are about to wreck Scottish football for a company who have yet to establish their financial viability.”

That paragraph says it all ! Regardless of how all this pans out, our Club has clearly, long outgrown Scottish football which has shown no possibility of moving into the 21st Century any time soon.

  27. Canceling sky and espn tonight

Paul67 are you sure that there is a provision for a change in the distribution of gate receipts included in the deal?

What’s to stop us just not paying? And not paying any penalties?

  28. The only way to stop this is for Celtic to come out now and resign and for all fans from the SPL/SFL to stick together on this.

We can’t allow the whole of Scottish Football to change because of 1 team that has cheated for years.

I don’t mind splitting money to help other teams out but i won’t help them out if they vote for money rather than integrity.
