Gang of 10 SPL clubs set to deliver hammer blow to Rangers

747

It has been another busy news day but for now we’ll concentrate on the two most important matters.

10 SPL clubs, excluding Celtic and Rangers, have arranged to meet next week.  This is the most significant news since Craig Whyte bought Rangers in May last year.  One SPL chairman told the BBC:

“With the Old Firm having talked in the past about leaving Scottish football, we have had to think about a future without them.

“Part of that situation could be about to come true, so we have had time to think about how we would get on without them.”

The smaller 10 SPL clubs have a once-only opportunity to redraw the power and financial map in Scottish football.  They want more of your money and this is their chance to get it.  They also want to be able to vote crazy ideas into the league that benefit teams without many fans or good players.

This is perfectly understandable and expected.  The distribution of TV income currently favours successful clubs, who are invariably featured most often.  Smaller clubs want to change this into a more equitable distribution model.  You and I will still buy the overwhelming majority of subscriptions, but our club will receive less cash from the TV deal.

“Part of that situation” refers to an SPL without Rangers.  This meeting is likely to end Newco Rangers hopes of getting straight back into the SPL in their tracks.  Without knowing the numbers in favour of a change, this looks like the killer blow, delivered before any proposition from Craig Whyte reaches the agenda.

We have discussed the need for Whyte to present a fait-accompli in order to get his wish.  Having been unable to do that, others had the opportunity to organise and make alternative plans.

The other important occurrence today was the attendance at the Rolls Building courts in London today by HMRC lawyers, keen to secure any monies seized from Collyer Bristows’ client account last week.  HMRC have made it perfectly clear they are all over Duff and Phelps and will seek court intervention to secure their rights.

This is significant.

You can make what you like about a more even distribution of SPL TV money, or the possibility of being held to ransom in future by bad teams who want to vote themselves out of relegation, but the only thing we know for sure is that this has been a profoundly bad day for Craig Whyte and anyone else hoping to phoenix a Newco Rangers.

In light of today‘s developments,  Mr Whyte and the administrators have some thinking to do before announcing any plans tomorrow.

  1. Its jelly and ice cream all round on FF this morning. Players strike a pay cut deal, no redundancies, a queue forming to takeover the club, HMRC going to do a deal on big tax case, Ticketus deal collapses

they never learn, believe anything anyone tells them that’s positive and cry timmy conspiracy when they are told bad news

    Question on possible Newco:

When a new Huns team is formed (still praying they die), is there any body out there that can stop them from having Rangers as part of their new name?

I would take great heart from them having to use any other name and never to be able to refer to that on a daily basis.

ok in your case the stricken club can still retain

some dignity, albeit in a landlord tenant arrangement.

However the other scenario is in my mind immoral.

You have to put yourself in that position.

Imagine in some crazy universe that we were the

    ones on our uppers.

And Man U were going to buy us out.

    The colours would change

all these Manc fans would appear

there would be a name change

Jinkys statue would replaced by Georgie Bests

and our history would be supplanted by that

    of Newton Heath

Would you still take the money

Would you let Celtic die like that.

Things are looking up for the beleaguered Bears. Next week’s big story: Ticketus deal collapses.

A long and arduous court case awaits!”

Radio Scotland were reporting earlier that the Ticketus deal was going to be unravelled.

Ticketus are hardly likely to agree so, as you say, a lenghty court case awaits.

This is the most important game of the season, win this and the treble looks very very possible! But one game at a time n that!!!

On this day in 1965, Jock Stein joined Celtic FC as manager and took us places we had only dreamed of.

And under Neil Lennon we can begin to dream again…

God Bless you and Keep you Neil….

jockstiensceltic. You may well be right but any offer from Whyte will likely not be accepted and we may or may not see Paul Murray and his blue knights making an offer.Imo though it wil all be posturing what they really want is to be in pole position to be on the board of any new co rangers 2012. H.H.

  8. Great news for bares indeed.

Only still owe about 6 different clubs money, HMRC about £80 Million, No European football, No Scottish Cup, they have a pension company and some other mob fighting over the £3.6 Million. Their top players can leave for hee-haw at the end of the season.

Get it right up you Timmy!!

Re the no PC at CP, I think that we are keeping a low profile, in view of the Trial, the 10 Meeting and the Party at Ibrox.

I can imagine the media saying, It’s quiet over there, too quiet!

I’m more inclined to think the confusing and contradictory stories which change at least a couple of times a day are intended to distract or bore people sufficiently, and create so much fog and confusion, that a dirty little deal can be done before people realise what’s happening.

  11. The notion that Ticketus are simply going to shrug their shoulders and go “silly me” whilst writing off their 24 Million is frankly crazy.

Tom English is a dopey fool.

  12. Anyone else think we are reading too much into the cancelation of the meeting at CP today. Couldn’t it just be a mark of respect for Paul McBride, his funeral is on Monday I believe. We may well miss his undoubted legal talents over the coming weeks

I know what you are saying and I agree that I wouldn’t want to see that type of an arrangement but if we can help the club survive while getting some additional benefits ourselves, surely thats a win win situation.

I wouldn’t suggest changing name or colours at all. We’d simply be a majority shareholder and they’d be a subsidiary of ours legally but in terms of football, they’s still be Portsmouth FC.

JFH – At risk of sounding flippant I don’t believe the Blue Knights exist, certainly not as a body who have guaranteed money.

All anyone other can Whyte can say say is we’ll buy Rangers if ……. and then a never ending list of conditions.

    What kind of deal ?

It will end in the courts. I have been saying that for a couple of years now, although I didn’t see CW on thew horizon back then, but their dodgy dealings were always coming out.

If you are correct we will just have to deal with things when that happens, we hold all the cards here, and things will be done to our satifaction, the clubs know it, the sfa/spl knows it, even the media knows it.

The club imo are in complete control of the situation, they are smart people on our board, lets see how they handle things, I have faith in them on this.

Can anyone tell me if Celtic now have half of the Rangers end for LCF. I am able to buy tickets now having missed out on the ballot but the only area with good availabilty is the rangers end

  18. Marrakesh Express on

You’d think the press had embarrassed themselves enough, but no, loyal and dumb to the bitter end. I have two close mates who are SB holders at the Ibrox. Even they admiitted to me this week that they are ‘rolling about the ground, taking a kicking from all angles, and they ‘cant take any more’. These particular guys were in denial up till last month, only getting news they didnt want to hear, from myself, via CQN, Phil and RTC. They were typical of the vast majority who accepted the media’s head in the sand approach. Yesterday I told them (on the strength of a marvellous post by forrest last week) that both the Rangers support and the Media have been ultimately responsible for the state of their club, more so than Murray or Whyte. When you think of this unhealthy Media/support pact, its a marriage made in hell. There was zero investigation into CW, zero analysis, zero criticism. The same goes for DM, who allowed the trojan horse up the marble staircase, knowing full well that he was very dangerous. When Alistair Johnston and the BBC dared to question Whyte’s motives they were met with abuse and scorn from the pact. Not one journo to my knowledge backed AJ’s doubts, even though this guy must have been in the know.

So its the rock they perish on and hell mend them. Today, we are presented by new fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm, Jackson and Traynor. But do you know what? According to my two mates the penny has dropped at last among the hun ranks (well the more sensible ones) and they dont buy into what the DR or Snyde tell them anymore. Too late I said.

Finally, its probably been mentioned but Jabba last night on Shortbread states..’RFC will DEFINITELY be in the SPL next season’. Jim Spence takes him to task and Jabba comes back with..’well look at it this way, if RFC go into Div 3, they’ll romp through the leagues while spending little or no cash therefore saving up millions. In the meantime CFC will have to qualify for the CL to keep players happy and generate income to compete with RFC who will now be in a strong position’. You couldnt make it up, unless you were the Brothers Grimm..
