Gaol for the Rangers

343

I hear regular reports that Our Hero is fastidious, clever, experienced and has expert legal advice on company rescue matters.  But I read (on Random Thoughts’ blog) that he doesn’t always take great care when filling out forms or doing paperwork.

Now he has a formidable foe on his case.  Alastair Johnston, the non-exec who may have been asleep at the wheel when Rangers FC PLC (in administration) were industriously working on schemes to avoid taxation, has written to the Crown Office asking them to investigate the acquisition of Rangers by Craig Whyte.  No Surrender Johnston, as he is knows in some parts, a sleeping giant of the sports industry, is awake and he’s darn irritated!

I love good irony.  Can you believe, he wrote to the CROWN Office!  Forces of the Crown are all over this situation already.  You have to wonder how deeply Her Majesty’s officers will delve now they’re on the case.

As anyone who has followed recent perjury trials in Scotland will know, not all alleged crimes are investigated, on occasion, action needs to be in the public interest, but you have to think that if our hero has failed to cross a t or dot an i, No Surrender Johnston will pursue Our Hero like the well-pensioned accountant he is.  If his suspicions are correct, I’m sure he will not rest until it’s Gaol for the Rangers miscreants.

  6. Can you believe that Mandaric is stepping into the limelight…..talk about a nest of vipers!!!!

Milan Mandaric interested in buying crisis-hit club Rangers

Former Portsmouth and current Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric is interested in buying Rangers.

The administrators revealed on Thursday they had already heard from parties interested in the crisis-hit club.

And BBC Scotland has learned the Serbian – last week cleared of two counts of tax evasion – is one of those to have contacted Duff and Phelps.

Mandaric, who has also been in charge at Leicester, took over at Hillsborough in December 2010.

Last November he stated that, for the time being, his focus was on the Owls and denied newspaper reports that multi-millionaires Sybil Danning and her husband Horst Lasse were considering purchasing the League One club.

He said: “I am 100% committed to Sheffield Wednesday. If the right persons come along, I would stand aside.

“But I can completely assure you that, until that day comes, my focus is here and my heart is at Hillsborough.”

Sir David Murray sold Rangers to Craig Whyte in May last year for £1 with the new owner clearing the £18m debt owed to Lloyds Bank.

Since then, Rangers’ dispute with HMRC over the use of Employee Benefit Trusts (EBTs) during Murray’s reign has meant there is a potential tax liability of £49m hanging over the Scottish Premier League champions.

But it was a £9m unpaid tax bill for VAT and PAYE, accrued since Whyte’s takeover, that tipped the club into administration on Tuesday and brought a 10-point penalty from the SPL that effectively ends Rangers’ title defence.

Paul Murray, a Rangers director in recent years, told BBC Scotland on Tuesday that he thought the model of having one owner running the club was unsustainable and that he would consider putting together a consortium to offer an alternative arrangement.

“I think there has to be wider ownership to give the club the best chance of moving forward,” he said.

“This wouldn’t be Paul Murray coming forward to buy the club, it would be Paul Murray as one of many stakeholders putting together capital.”

The identities of the other parties said to be interested in buying Rangers from Whyte are unknown.

Sorry no. Our allocations all spoken for and it looks like it’s a sell out. The other three stands will be half empty though.

Only the tax dodgers would have the brass neck to be triumphalist about the ability to put ON a football match.. They make tomorrow appear like some euro triumph..

It s becoming embarrassing for them.

Next they ll be announcing fresh supplies of soap in the loos..

    This was on last night.

There are a number of companies with similar sounding names (presumably to prevent passing off by others). One of them has been wound up, that’s all.

  13. £49,000,000 = not enough t buy dignity

It’s great watching them all scrap over who’s fault it is. Who actually brought down the Ranjurs. Who is responsible for their morphing into Rangers FC PLC (in administration).

I have a simple solution. They are all responsible. Company directors are responsible for what a company does while they are in office.

  15. Declan sounds a bit like the Monty character who used to (and maybe still does) post on CM.

  16. Paul67,

    Excellent headline.

We nevertheless should be wary of being diverted from the central issue here – Rangers cheated Scottish Football and the Taxman (allegedly).

There appears to be a change in tactics on behalf of the establishment.

Blame Whyte – Poor Rangers were duped.

Everyone should avoid being dragged into this agenda.

Don’t fancy being in amongst the home fans so will probably try Parkhead on the way home today.

Am I allowed to be somewhat irked, after missing only a handful of away games in the past 10 years, that because the hun are in their final death throes, I may be forced to watch this on television?!

All of you ghuys and ghirls who are headed to Ibrox for the game in March, please remember to take your own toilet roll with you incase you need a comfort break. I was very alarmed at the recent story about the chap who visited with his wife and a toiolet roll had to be supplied specially for the wife and it was taken out after she left the toilet. Don’t get caught short.

Surely it is Henrik Larsson who was responsible for rangers being bankrupted

Well in my version of the truth it is – because even dick advocaat said he couldn’t beat Larsson, it didn’t stop him spending about 80 million quid trying to
