Gaol for the Rangers

343

I hear regular reports that Our Hero is fastidious, clever, experienced and has expert legal advice on company rescue matters.  But I read (on Random Thoughts’ blog) that he doesn’t always take great care when filling out forms or doing paperwork.

Now he has a formidable foe on his case.  Alastair Johnston, the non-exec who may have been asleep at the wheel when Rangers FC PLC (in administration) were industriously working on schemes to avoid taxation, has written to the Crown Office asking them to investigate the acquisition of Rangers by Craig Whyte.  No Surrender Johnston, as he is knows in some parts, a sleeping giant of the sports industry, is awake and he’s darn irritated!

I love good irony.  Can you believe, he wrote to the CROWN Office!  Forces of the Crown are all over this situation already.  You have to wonder how deeply Her Majesty’s officers will delve now they’re on the case.

As anyone who has followed recent perjury trials in Scotland will know, not all alleged crimes are investigated, on occasion, action needs to be in the public interest, but you have to think that if our hero has failed to cross a t or dot an i, No Surrender Johnston will pursue Our Hero like the well-pensioned accountant he is.  If his suspicions are correct, I’m sure he will not rest until it’s Gaol for the Rangers miscreants.

  1. I wonder if Cameron will come out with a similar statement now that Portsmouth have gone into administration (again)?

    Good one!

I’m only 28 and didn’t start going to games until i was 12. I’m sure everyone has different experiences of supporting the hoops. I like to hear about peoples favourite games……makes you wish you had experienced them yourself.

I often went to Easter Rd,esp in the 80s,and we would take turns about for which end we went into.

Which was only fair, since there were a few Tims and a few Hibees in the mixed company.

It also explains why I was in the Hibs section when some eejit flung a CS cannister into it.

Fortunately I reaised that it settles rather than floats, unlike the poor sods who tried to escape from it by running onto the pitch.

    The cloud followed them!

Bit of a problem explaining to the women that night that the game finished at 6pm,they were convinced we had grabbed a few more beers than normal after the game….

1 – the big tax bill isn’t the reason for RFC (in administration) – we don’t know the result yet, so it would be on top of current debts. However the Administrators made reference to trying to include it in a CVA

2 – My understanding is that each insolvency event incurs a 10 point penalty. The 25 point penalty was given to Dundee, but SFL rules are different to SPL ones.

PS – You’re correct to say the scenario you describe is very unlikely !

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric issues a statement following reports that he is interested in buying Rangers. “First and foremost, I can categorically deny that there is any substance to these stories and I am disappointed that such articles are printed without any foundation whatsoever. I have never had any dialogue or contact to anyone relating to Glasgow Rangers. Glasgow Rangers is a huge football club with a great heritage and history, but I already have that here at Sheffield Wednesday. For clarity, I have not instructed any of my associates to register an interest in the administration process at Glasgow Rangers and I have no interest, now or in the future, of becoming involved in the club.”

The Bathgate article is a disgrace. Note that this is Craig Whyte’s PERSONAL problem.

Actually it is not (well, not yet anyway ;)) – he is accountable on behalf of RANGERS. It is their problem.

Blame Whyte not Rangers is the message here.
