George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

  1. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

So sorry to hear of the passing of LURGAN 53.

He was a good correspondent for me in my early days on here, when I could mainly post only at night.

A smashing fella,by cyber-standards,and doubtless in the flesh also.

    RIP.

  2. Rest in peace Lurgan53.

I shall miss your contribution to all things Celtic

    Great post!

We’re not alone in thinking this, I just think there is an apathy amongst a lot of fans that we have to just accept the way it is.

There’s a ‘good luck with that’ type attitude that is completely understandable but if our fans started to see a movement, or cause, they could unite behind, then I beleive they would support, and follow it.

I’m getting all prophetical now…..but I see Celtic, as a club, as almost being missionaries…..spreading goodwill around the world! Lisbon, Seville, Thai Tims to name but a few!

The hard part, I guess, is kicking it off?! Although it is just an extension of what this club is about…..helping others in need. Showing other football fans that this club is different…..and why.

Maybe we should simply start here…..on CQN…..and just ask contributors to read back James Forrest, yours and my last posts and ask yourself….

If we could start to sow seeds for this would you support it?

    Over to you CQN!

  5. Lurgan 53 RIP

We never spoke, but wishing you well on the otherside!

    Hail, Hail

  6. I had the pleasure of meeting Lurgan53 a couple of seasons back – a great guy & just as amusing & interesting in the flesh as he was on CQN.

Ard Macha – I hope you will be able to pass on our condolences to his family & friends.

Sad news on the passing of Lurgan53.

    Condolences to his family.

  8. I do not for one second believe that the wee cheeky chappie’s preference is Div. 3, it’s the continuall manipulation of the masses, knowing that there’s a distinct possibility that with a hands off approach they’ll end up in Div. 1 they can then through there hands up and say, “we were willing to take the full punishment, but were forced into Div. 1 for the benifit of the others clubs”

Was just chatting with a few fellow Tims (Bhoys and Ghirls) and I suggested that one way for us to show our appreciation for the other clubs fans was for the pre match commentator to suggest a round of applause welcoming them to the stadium ( as they have made the effort to back their team when so many others don’t ).

I think that a nice touch. Mixed feedback based on who our opponents were as some are not so appreciative of our club. Thoughts?

Yes matey it’s division 1 he wants and if they do get it then all fans will always hold that against them because rules were broken to parachute them into that division.

  13. The Battered Bunet @ 14.58,

Agree with you about the many – hope you’re right about the few.

  14. talk of comparing rfc to leeds utd situation

can someone please tell me what it was that leeds utd did wrong ?

appears as tho “och well, leeds only got such n such a punishment, so how come we’re gettin a greater punishment?”

    what did leeds do ?

I had heard previously, through Árd Macha, of Lurgan 53’s illness.

Nevertheless, it is still a shock to hear of one of us passing.

CQN has created a “family”, which,at times brings joy and,at times, sadness.

May his soul Rest in Peace and may his family be comforted.

When I received news of Lurgan 53’s death, I was receiving a visit from an infrequent CQN poster but regular lurker; which highlighted the joy of CQN.

My visitor posts under the name, Glenview.

I understand that he is known to a few of you lads, e.g. Blantyretim and Awe Naw.

Actually, he is probably known to everone in the leafy suburbs of Blantyre and.Hamilton.

I first met him about twenty years ago, when he had a business here, and it was great to catch up on life and Celtic.

Leeds gambled on getting regular ECL income; they overspent and over valued on players but as far as I am aware they paid the Revenue and the ole Elland Road face painter.

    Glenview also mentionedyour name.

    Now I know your na-ame!!

    thanks

    “no comparison”

    yep

    thats what i thought too

the lack (?) of comprehension on the part of the “rfc” personnel, for various reasons, is continual, ongoing, frequent, regular

    deliberate? or simply thro ignorance?

  20. CQNers,

I live on the other side of the world but would like to do my bit to support the club this year. I would consider purchasing a season ticket which I could use on the very rare occasions I get home but would be willing to leave it in a CQN pool the rest of the time so it could be given to disadvantaged kids etc. Do we/could we have a CQN section at Paradise and is anyone else interested in doing something similar to help the club?

Didn’t Leeds also sell future season ticket rights.

I read last week that the FAI have dealt with Ticketus with the AVIVA.
