Gerrard further adrift from Celtic than Caixinha

257

The response to Scott Brown’s SFA citation from Celtic, Neil Lennon, the support and everyone connected with the club has been so overwhelming, I had to check if the Celtic top the Pope held in St Peter’s Square this week had “Brown, 8” on the back (it didn’t).

Celtic will present a litany of precedents with players celebrating in a similar fashion without censure from referees or the Association.  I would also expect them to ask Judicial Panel members associated with their opponents last Sunday to excuse themselves from proceedings.

At this stage of his career, with contract talks still on going, the captain deserves this support, although let’s not confuse his stoic resilience for Player of the Year qualifications.  That subject is worthy of greater scrutiny.

There is a lot of anger at Steven Gerrard over his antagonistic remarks towards Scott Brown since the weekend, but I think we need to cut the Newco manager some slack.

With the many distractions since Sunday, it may have escaped your notice that Celtic are now further ahead of second placed Newco (13 points) than they were ahead of both Aberdeen (9 points) and Newco (12 points) at the end of last season.

The harsh reality facing Gerrard this week is that he spent significantly more money than Pedro Caixinha but his side is even further adrift from the champions than the team managed by Caixinha and Graeme Murty a year earlier.  Caixinha was given 229 days before being sacked.  Gerrard now knows his team is doing worse than before he took over.  He is not the first to lash out in the face of failure.

This is his first season in management, Caixinha was a manager for 14 years before arriving at Ibrox.  He has a long way to go to catch up with the Portuguese’.  Gerrard’s feelings of frustration are new.  A year from now he will be more accepting of reality, including his own limitations in comparison to Pedro.  Nine-in-a-row will not hurt him as much as this season’s eight.

  1. Spot on DD.

Great cool, calm and collected interview handling a lot of leading questions. Neil Lennon is now learning, talking and acting like a Celtic manager.

I may be pedantic here, but I want to see Neil In the club suit and tie more often. Tracksuit’s are fine for coaches but a Celtic manager is the authoritarian voice of the club and the leading figure in Scottish Football.

Well done Neil, a giant leap to becoming the full time manager. Results are everything until we win the treble, then style and entertaining football must and will surely follow.

Incidentally and by pure coincidence, I renewed my ST today.

    COYBIG, the journey continues.

Only problem with equating Scott Brown with Leroy Brown is that Leroy looks like ” a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone” after a barroom brawl. I doubt that would be the case with Scott.

BP They proudly wear the Armagh colours at Tannadice. Orange/Tangerine is a beautiful colour. Orange is one third of the Irish Tricolour flag.

*DD I recall watching Dumbarton playing Dundee United at Boagheid in the old Division B, at the time Dumbarton played in black and gold hoops while United were in black and white hoops the colours they had worn since the former Dundee Hibs, who wore the traditional green and white, sometimes playing in the hoops or an Airdrie style V motif, were almost liquidated and when saved became Dundee City for one season and then United. To avoid a potential strip clash the Sons reverted tae their change strip which was black and gold similar tae the Wolves one.

Dundee United continued to play in various strips of black and white until 1969 when the manager at the time former deidco player jerry kerr’s wife coaxed them tae change tae the colours of Dallas Tornados who they had played under in a precursor to the NASL in the summer of ’67, Hibs played as Toronto City and the sheep as Washington Whips, the fans weren’t that ecstatic at the time but those new colours stayed. Incidentally the Tornados never played in tangerine again.

That’s been their colours ever since except to celebrate their centenary they wore an all green strip with a white and tangerine band on the top.

  6. There is no doubt that Celtic played their most slick and fluid fitba (also coincided with when we had most players available) when Broonie was out the team.

Broonie has showed why he still has a massive part in Celtic putting as much Silverware, Domestically, on the table as possible.

Theres Leaders developing All over the park. Kristoffer looks to me to be wan that really has it. Obviously Kieran and Callum will be well in there with a shout. Who knows who is coming through – I’m sure there are a few wee Nuggets that will Elevate Celtic after all the effort Celtic have put in to this aspect of the Club.

I dont bill everyone the same …. there is the ‘friends and family rate’ which is half my normal rate … then there is the ‘cheeky friends and family rate’, which you get … which is double my normal hourly rate!

Like that other great Canadian thinker – Linda Evangelista – I dont get out of bed for less than $10,000.00.

  9. IHTCMM,

From that angle you see how Incredible the goal was by Odsonne, as that horrible person is a good goalkeeper and it made him look sh!t on the TV cameras.

The Big Man is mega and so highly skillful for such a big dude.

On another day my bet of him scoring a hattrick would have came in. He was outstanding.

  10. Been having a look at our season end points tally for our last 7 titles.

2012 – Neil – 93 (20 clear of Rangers, cause that’s who they were then)

    2013 – Neil – 79 (16 clear of Motherwell)

    2014 – Neil – 99 (29 clear of Motherwell)

    2015 – Ronny – 92 (17 clear of Aberdeen)

    2016 – Ronny – 86 (15 clear of Aberdeen)

    2017 – Brendan – 106 (30 clear of Aberdeen)

    2018 – Brendan – 82 (9 clear of Aberdeen)

This season we are currently on 76 so maximum available is 94. I think we’ll probably finish up with our 5th best points total of the 8 titles won and possibly (probably?) around 18 points clear of 2nd place.

Thanks to CRC and Bateen Bhoy, our family charity, Farmersfield Rest-home for Elderly Donkeys (FRED) profile has been raised substantially through Goals Galore 4. Many, Many Thanks. We also have a sister, not – for profit, Community Interest Company (CIC), called Animals Supporting People at FRED using our FRED donkeys and other animals to provide animal assisted therapy to those in need or want.

Now we have been selected by Border TV to bid for National Lottery Funding in order to build an inside enclosure so that we can deliver this service all year round. Our project is called “Animals Supporting People at Fred – Going Undercover.” Please, please vote for us by visiting this link:

There’s a short film there which, thankfully, I did not contribute to much, although I did manage to keep my Celtic bunnet on in the last scene.

We would be ever so grateful if you could vote for us. Importantly, it is not just people in the Border Region that can take part in the vote. Any of the 13 ITV regions can vote for our bid. So, anyone from Land’s End to John O’Groats and all you guys in The Six Counties can pile in too. After voting please share with all your family, friends and contacts – it would be much appreciated.

You can find out more on our Facebook page – Farmersfield Rest Home for Elderly Donkeys or our website: animalssuupportingpeople.co.uk
