Gerrard good appointment for club with short-term challenges

389

Newco have struggled for relevance this season, even among their own supporters, who have been increasingly disengaged.  They are an object of fun domestically and were not quoted outside of Scotland.  Now they are relevant.  They are being discussed in news programmes and by football commentators outside Scotland, and not because of an embarrassing defeat.

The appointment will ensure the renewal of thousands of season tickets that may otherwise not have been purchased, so for the first season, it will self-finance.  For a club with huge short-term challenges, this money he will bring in over the next six weeks makes the appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager a good one.  July’s Europa League qualifiers are a long way off.

This is true even though he has less experience than McCoist, McDowell, Warburton, Caixinha and Murty.  Gerrard has never taken charge of a full team of adults.  He will have no money to compete with Celtic and will need to pitch his tactical brain against Neil Lennon and Derek McInnes next season.  Results will be predictable, you can be assured of that.

Despite his warm welcome yesterday, he is, of course, another Celtic Brother.  This fact will visit him with the vitriol which became familiar during Murty and Caixinha’s reign soon enough.

All of this means we get to dismantle some fantasies next season, just as we did this season and last.  I see no downside.

JNP – “I think there’s a lot more to it” – completely agree. The city is a Narcopolis and it’s a difficult job trying to bring your kids up in it. But he seems to be getting more abuse than our former striker who did just about the same thing to an Elvis impersonator.

    Everton equalise 90 plus 6.

    Southampton still in relegation trouble.

Talking about relegation Hamburg lost today :-)

One game to go they are 2nd bottom 2 points behind Wolfsburg.

It’s between those two for 2nd relegation spot.

Wolfsburg have better goal difference and their last game is at home to already relegated bottom team Koln.

    Hail Hail

  3. Big Packy I am good my friend.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow, never liked Hearts used to love to hate going through to Swinecastle when I was younger. Loved going with my mates to see the Famous Glasgow Celtic, hated their supporters and atmosphere outside their ground, but could always handle any trouble they wanted to throw at us. ?

Pub tomorrow with mates and off Monday . 3-1 to us

I was at Girvan game today lost 0-1 v Beith , not a true reflection of game we missed a sitter at 0-0 and more than matched a Beith team that could win the league , just not getting any breaks , but Talbot at home on Wed. night should be easier lol !! How did Cumbernauld get on ? HH !

  6. Just got a link sent to me of the nicholas interview on sky.

What an a**e licking prick he is.

He was a good player initially for us but chased the money and whatever in London.

He chose Aberdeen before us, then came back as a washed out hasbeen.

It irks me that he uses Celtics name to feed his bank balance.

    Charlie Nick!… Charlie the prick.

Sorry for delay, was playing scabby queen. :-)

Talbot and Beith could both win the league now.

Cumbernauld lost 2.0 away to Cambuslang, which means it highly unlikely they will be promoted.

It will be interesting to see what happens, as they threw a bit of money at the squad. They had won 5of their last 6 before today, but too little too late. Mid table finish but they wanted more.

Got to feel a bit sorry for the ref in the Swindon Town v Accrington Stanley match today.

85th minute, two players, onefrom each side, square up to each other. So that’ll be two red cards then.

Asks the Swindon player for his name, gets the reply-James Dunne.

Asks the Accrington player the same question, gets the same reply-James Dunne!

  17. Guys I think Brendan will give some who were on the subs bench a start tomorrow, the Griff, PR67, Sinky, Jozo, Bain, we should be able to make these changes and still win, IMO.

I know about wanting to keep the same team playing coming up for the cup final, and normally I am in that camp, but I just think tomorrow BR will rest a few and we should still win.

  18. Here’s the thing…

Steven Gerrard is well liked by the English media, more than just in the cringeworthy way that their Scottish counterparts deal with any arrival particularly of the managerial variety at the bigot dome… only to crush them whilst absolving the directors on the board of unsurpassed dignity of any blame whatsoever once the inevitable train wreck comes. So when it all goes pear shaped, can you guess which side they (English Media) are going to take?

I’m getting some microwave popcorn in because this is gonna be good.

    Hail Hail,
