Gerrard throws Morelos under the Lamborghini

386

Just six days after Steven Gerrard pondered if his team had the “bottle” to mount a title challenge, they were unable to overcome Aberdeen at home.  Were it not for Sam Cosgrove having an off day, all three points may have travelled north after the game.

Gerrard’s reaction was typically selfless, “We’re definitely doing something right in terms of the team organisation [trans: I’m good at my job], but I think individuals in it today let us down a bit by giving big chances away [trans: it’s the players fault].

Having absolved himself of all blame, Gerrard went on to throw Morelos under the Lamborghini, “The biggest [chances]were obviously one in the first-half, Alfredo should put Ryan Kent through on goal and the second he should have taken the chance that was presented to him with a fantastic ball by Connor.”

This is not a positive sign.  Good managers are strong enough to open themselves to criticism in order to protect their players.  This guy sounds like he has self-doubts.  Not without reason.

The weekend’s action ended in typical fashion with the champions stretching their lead to seven points, albeit having played a game more than the also-rans.

Credit to Hamilton Accies, who battled with 10-men before collapsing after the 78th minute.  Celtic were uninspiring until that point, but they are champions for a reason.  The game transformed with the arrival from the bench of Jonny Hayes, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  Rogic, in particular, has patiently waited his chance.  I would start him at Fir Park on Wednesday.

  2. TURKEYBHOY – of course all centre-halfs can be beaten to a header, but at Hampden, for example, they were getting beat to everything. The expectation is that 6ft 6 defenders will command their penalty box when corners and free kicks are floated in. Should Julien not have been expected to win the header yesterday for the Hamilton goal? I thought he should have.

As I said in OP, it is just my gut reaction/obsevration and may not reflect reality.

  3. What a difference in the match yesterday when we brought on Jonny Hayes who set up our second goal & Tom Rogic who set up our third goal big Eddy should have had a hat-trick & even James Forrest had not a non existant match yesterday good more of the same young James Forrest.

I like tall Christopher Jullien okay he may have been @ fault on Hamilton’s plastic pitch goal however he made up for that mistake by banging in with his head Johnny Hayes perfect cross well done tall young chap keep those text book headers coming cause yesterdays goal was not the first goal CJ has scored for us with his head

Well done yesterday Celtic on a difficult surface & get it in there go on the Bhoys

  4. the goal we lost yesterday was very similar to the headed goal we lost against them on the 29th , also think the same centre back involved.

In January, two football clubs went to Dubai for the winter break.

One week’s holiday, one week’s training.

One club, a group of players, bonded like a band of brothers.

One club, an assorted job lot of unwanted players, strangers to each other.

After being in each other’s close company for two week, both clubs returned to Glasgow to resume their neck and neck title pursuit.

One club have blossomed, results wise, after the break.

    One club haven’t.

The moral of the story seems to be, don’t go on holiday with people you don’t know, or even like.

  6. Precisely, Alex Gocic of Accies fame won the stadium Man of the Match award as he did elsewhere, apparently he also won ‘every single ball into the box’

Ron 67 I’m sure we brought in Christopher Jullien last Summer so CJ was not the Centre Back in the match

you are referring too however & you are right we did concede in the exact same area & goal frame of Hamilton plastic pitch either last Season 2018/2019 or Season 2017/2018 when Brendan Rodgers was the Manager & it was a headed goal that particular match & day as well & I think it was also the same score line as yesterday in the end if my memory serves me right

However, some consideration needs to be given regarding the provocation LG received. Usual attempts to wind him up.

The Morelos cack in the papers and on Sky are a measure of their recognition that they’re gonna fail once again. Why they think this kind of “PR” from Jim Traynor helps is beyond me. A glance at their websites tells you all you need to know. They’ve thrown the towel in and realise the games a bogey for another season.

    .

The Leigh “Incident” yesterday is a strom in a tea cup that Hamilton numpty player pulled

Leigh’s leg towards him so Leigh did not intentionally stamp on said Hamilton Player that

was a lie as for Leigh shoving that tall numpty of a Hamilton Player that was because after

the so called allegedly stamping lie you will see that tall numpty Hamilton player making

a big barging shove into Leigh’s back before Leiigh shoved tall numpty back these hammer

thrower players in the Scottish game can get a bit physical especially when things are not

    going there way

  22. “Throughout the league campaign he averaged 6.46 aerial duels per game, which isn’t particularly poor or impressive. However, success rate for those headers stands at 76 per cent – which is the very best in the league.”
