Gerrard throws Morelos under the Lamborghini

386

Just six days after Steven Gerrard pondered if his team had the “bottle” to mount a title challenge, they were unable to overcome Aberdeen at home.  Were it not for Sam Cosgrove having an off day, all three points may have travelled north after the game.

Gerrard’s reaction was typically selfless, “We’re definitely doing something right in terms of the team organisation [trans: I’m good at my job], but I think individuals in it today let us down a bit by giving big chances away [trans: it’s the players fault].

Having absolved himself of all blame, Gerrard went on to throw Morelos under the Lamborghini, “The biggest [chances]were obviously one in the first-half, Alfredo should put Ryan Kent through on goal and the second he should have taken the chance that was presented to him with a fantastic ball by Connor.”

This is not a positive sign.  Good managers are strong enough to open themselves to criticism in order to protect their players.  This guy sounds like he has self-doubts.  Not without reason.

The weekend’s action ended in typical fashion with the champions stretching their lead to seven points, albeit having played a game more than the also-rans.

Credit to Hamilton Accies, who battled with 10-men before collapsing after the 78th minute.  Celtic were uninspiring until that point, but they are champions for a reason.  The game transformed with the arrival from the bench of Jonny Hayes, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  Rogic, in particular, has patiently waited his chance.  I would start him at Fir Park on Wednesday.

  1. I haven’t read back yet so not sure if it’s already been mentioned .

After all the crap football played across Scotland at the weekend (eg Ikpeazu standing on the ball) , Alex Rae picks Odsonne’s miss as howler of the weekend .

Celtic and Sevco performing in line with key indicators (squad, experience, cash) is NOT good for business.

They’ll lose a shed load of Sevco subscribers in the summer, unless a new slogan can be dreamt up.

  5. I wonder, what would the Ibrox folk-hero ‘Billy Boy’ do were he marauding the streets of Glasgow today and he came across Mr Morelos in some dark alleyway?

When the fans proudly proclaim their passion for being Billy Boys, they are expressing their wish to follow follow a bitter, twisted, hate-filled racist.

Perhaps the SMSM, when they are running their stories of racism in Scottish football, might like to comment on the adoration of such a man by the 1000s of Ibrox faithful.

  6. Turkeybhoy-Taylor was poor yesterday.

Jullien was poor in everything he did defending

He came out on top because Hamilton changed their system after going a man down

  7. Compare and contrast the BBC’s reportage of Frimpong at Kilmarnock with its coverage of the more recent Griffiths incident. The former was an assault; and the Celtic player’s injury prevented him playing in the next game. The Beeb had extensive footage but chose not to show it. Nor did they mention it.

But for Griffiths, the national broadcaster all but contaminated the evidence and tortured the forensics to concoct a case for the prosecution.

Somebody up there doesn’t like us.

  9. BBC Scotland’s position on anything to do with Celtic is entirely predicable. It is and always has been and establishment hun shop. Their regular commentators and pundits are all ex-huns or are hun supporters pretending to be something else. One of the most hilarious moments in the past 20 years was Chick Young and James Traynor arguing about which if them was the biggest hun. Any story on Celtic is seen through a hun prism.

All of which makes it all the more satisfying listening to them after a weekend like the one just past.

  10. How good would it be if Odsonne met a nice Scottish lassie ( or guy #2020 ) and they loved him back but refused to leave their mammy?

Or he loved golf or football or rain or winning trophies?

Or the Celtic board realised that big Fraser and Odsonne were genuine match winners, and at least tried to sign them up long-term on serious money contracts?

If El Hameeed and Frimpong get fit then the only position we can definitely improve on would be left full back or wing back.

We have a fekin brilliant team/squad atm and they shall not be moved.

If Slippy and Sevco keeps slipping we could reach the last 4 of the EL and maybe even better.

Football is fickle but we could have an unbelievable season this year.

On that note I think I have over stayed my welcome on here today … but it’s a great wee avenue to talk rubbish about our team … one of these seasons we might not win the league … BUT we should worry & argue (debate) when that actually happens …

For now … enjoy what we have 🍀
