Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

635

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

PL will sign him and claim he’s the Armstrong replacement

With game on Celtic tv is there a place In your area likely to show the match?

Jobo was asking this morning and he mentioned he met up with. jC who lurks

  3. By end of last season, I meant the season before of course when he looked like the hottest young striker in Europe.

  4. mike in toronto on

Apparently Yaya Toure is signing for Olympiakos …. 2 million a year after tax … a bit out of our snack bracket

  5. I am going to wait until we actually sell Dembele, find out what we get for him and see if we sign anybody. If selling Dembele gets us a high standard CB, I would be happy with that. I honestly do not think he is as good as he is made out to be.

  6. Lots and lots of hissy fits getitng thrown.

If we kep Moussa, fair enough.

If we get offered £20 million, I’ll drive him myself wherever he wants.

He was NOT present for last season’s CL qualifiers and he was NOT fit for this season’s CL qualifiers.

    Cracking player when fully fit.

One more hamstring injury and he’s worth less than me.

Cold hard facts are that our superstar in the making has not been reliable for some of the biggest games we’ve played in his time here.

It’s tough love, but Celtic would be mad not to cash in on him now if someone wanted to pony up near £20 million.

  7. Go tell the Spartim on

    Q) So what would be do with the £20m????

    A) Nothing, its there for the benefit of shareholders and no one else.

As we are always banging on about Rangers IL and its “holding” company being one and the same, then we must accept that there are people within Celtic damaging the club and not for the first time.

    Celtic supporters my ****

Sickens my stomach that they are lauded on here

  8. Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas confirms negotiations with Celtic for French Striker Moussa Dembele. We are in contact with Moussa Dembele, the player is interested but Celtic are tricky negotiators. We have other options.

  9. SANDMAN

It’s not the selling of Dembele thats got people upset.

If we are willing to sell why was their no planning for his departure?

A last minute and probably cheaper replacement is to late to help our European campaign and the league has already started and any replacement would need to hit ground running as Edouard and Griff have both just returned from injury.

  10. Incidentally, no wonder so many have left the blog, some don’t like what they read, so respond with primary 1 insults.

  11. I smell shite regarding Brendans statement on Moussa missing training. On the eve of an important game you don’t miss training, BR would not want that. Hardly ideal preparation for two massive games. All BR had to say is that Moussa is going nowhere instead on fanning the flames, feed them twats in the press nothing, nothing. This is all an unnecessary distraction before two big games. Only consolation to the Lawell lovers – we have a lovely Deso pitch and nice lights to shine on it. Say what you want about Mourinho but treat the press with contempt, they are no friends of ours so why should we be friends of theirs

  12. Looks like it’s not so much running through walls as running to the airport from our players this week.

There is clearly no plan B for a striker – according to French sources Celtic have put out signals that we’re looking for a new striker. So that’ll be Moussa away to Lyon this week and a panic buy (if any) to replace him. Is Peter Lawwell out of his mind?

  13. Phil saying, that Celtic have put a new contract on the table for Moussa.

If he signs he will be best paid player at club.

Brendan is even willing to sell another major player to fund Moussa package.

  14. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

So it seems we are about to sell our main forward on the eve of Sunday’s tester.

I was annoyed, angry at the dereliction since January of failing to improve and make CL qualification more attainable.

Now, and again, with no chance of a suitable replacement arriving before the window’s closure we have gone into reverse.

What is the purpose of the club ? It’s clearly not football, nor is the purpose aligned with the aims and dreams of the support.

I just don’t get the dereliction since January.

  15. Go tell the Spartim on 29th August 2018 3:16 pm

    Q) So what would be do with the £20m????

    ===================================

Look for another Moussa and have the cash to pay the wages quality players command.

Just look at our wage bill – THAT’S the key to competing; keeping the players we bring here happy that they’re on equivalent wages to much better leagues. Scotland is WAY down the list of preferential environments, if on the list at all. Only Celtic’s profile – and cash – makes it attractive.

Transfer fees keep us in the loop, like it or not; that’s the predicament of playing in the SPL; pauper’s league and us would-be-kings.

And why would Celtic have a ‘plan B’ in motion?

They may have a list of targets, but nobody’s going to act on that until a team comes in for one of your major strikers.

Nobody likes losing players but since Henrik there’s not been a loyal servant; that type of player does not exist above lower levels any more – EVERY player that fits Celtic’s level of profile is a mercenary. A top player is now a business, feeding the families of his entourage.

Do people really expect Celtic to be going around a dozen top striking prospects saying “Look, we might be interested in you if one of our top boys gets and offer, but maybe not. Until anything happens, keep it shtum, eh? You never heard from us…”

    Amateur pish.

I mean, we’re not working off a Scorcese script, ffs.

  16. We all knew Moussa would be sold at some point before his contract was up but selling him with 2 days to go in the transfer window and no replacement/players coming in is verging on criminal negligence.

I wouldn’t want to be the person that presided over that situation as there would be no hiding place. Maybe it’s going to be PL’s swan song at CP so as we never forget/forgive him? ☹️?

  17. The last few pages have been worse than any I can remember since `discovering ` the site eleven years ago.

Many of the comments offer strong evidence for my minority view that everyone is most certainly NOT entitled to their opinion.

    Cheerio for now,

  18. What happened to the last two 2 years CL money ?

At least Neil Lennon had the ball’s to walk oot!

    Zzzzzzzzzzzz

  19. Just been reading back.

Folk are making so many assumptions, and then apportioning blame for what they think might happen, when in reality, they haven’t a bloody clue. Meantime, our enemies in the MSM are piling on more innuendo and fake news, which our resident bedwetters are taking as gospel.

Moussa may well be sold. We will have assured him that if an acceptable offer comes in, he will be told about it and allowed time with his advisors to examine his options. NONE of us know what is happening behind the scenes. Let the negatonians spout their usual bile while the rest of us should pray that we have a decent squad for the next two massive games.

I accept that this window has been most disappointing, but I’m still a fully committed Celtic fan. Faithful through and through. If that makes me gullible, so what? Neganon, are you a “conditional” Celtic fan? What are the conditions? If they have been met, when are you gonna GTF? If not, why not just support the team and wind back on the negativity? You already don’t support the club financially. Make a clean break and give the rest of us some peace. You’re a carbuncle on the blog.

If you think it’s bad on here, you want to try The Celtic Blog. You have all this and more and also the Hun trolls giving their vile comments.

  21. B.B.

I thought that too, that’s what Phil said though.

My guess, and obviously it’s no more than that, is, that he meant Boyatta.

It’s certainly not been a window to cherish.

    Hail Hail

  22. BLANTYRETIM IS PRAYING FOR THE KNOX FAMILY – Not that I know of. I passed the Railway Tavern last week and it has shut down permanently. I haven’t been in Bar Olé for months, he’d be a possible for Sunday’s game but not if it conflicts with an EPL match that someone has already asked to see.

The obvious place is 30 mins away – at one of the Benidorm Irish bars where there are regular CSC gatherings. The two Irish bars in Denia are anything but Irish and never have football on.

  23. Incidentally Bada, did you get to see the video that Judith put up, on her Twitter page? especially for you, I’m sure. :-)

    Hail Hail
