Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

635

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

Asked about the impact of not getting through (to the CL group stages), Lawwell told the Celtic Underground podcast: ‘I don’t think we’ve ever been stronger.

‘At the moment, I’m looking at two or three years out and understanding where we can be and where we want to be.

‘We’ve got resources that will enable us to have a long runway and enable us to look at any things that don’t go to plan.

‘We do plan for the unexpected so I think we’re very robust. We have good resources and we have pretty ambitious plans in regards to the football team and around Celtic Park.’

Aye Peter and we are still wating to see your ambitious plan for the football team. Or did you mean sell all the best players and panic buy inferior last minute replacements ?

  2. I see AEK have qualified for the champions league.

They may think they are smart but how much money do they have in the bank?

We may not have qualified for the champions league but we have tens of millions stashed away.

    Well done Peter Lawwell.

There should be a bronze statue of you on the celtic way.

Proudly holding up a copy of the balance sheet.

    Balance sheets win prizes.

The old board would be proud of you.

Wee Fergus would be proud of you.

Brian Quinn would be proud of you.

    It is the celtic way.

I have a suggestion to all season ticket holders.

Next season wait until 31st of august before renewing.

In my 55 years on Earth, most of them spent supporting my beloved team, our supporters have been taken for a ride by the clubs custodians. The latest being the, so far, embarrassing transfer window and the almost willingness for us to go into a decline. We may have the best supporters in the world but we have never had a board that came close to matching our ambitions.

is OE fit for Sunday – the club will look like a dic* if we’ve only LG to put out .

The love of money is the root of all evil.

Celtic board are a disgrace. I know for a fact that Eric Riley was a mason. Is PL and Bankier and Dermot Desmond in the same masonic lodge.

    Scunnered now.

  6. A lot of fans fed up with the present board, especially Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawell, well we the ordinary fans should protests tomorrow Evening outside the main Stand, and let Lawell and Co,they are on there last legs, don’t ask the Shareholders .they are only interested in the share price, and that’s the big problem at Celtic Park at the minute.

  7. DD

What is the purpose of all this money though, we are already cash rich, adding another 25m if that is true serves what purpose? preference shareholders get 6% per annum, are Celtic plc diversifying into Hotels etc to broaden the income stream, with the football team just a part of Celtic plc, tax will need to be paid on profits so are we willing to pay more tax rather than sign players, I do not understand this strategy at all, driving up the share price is only of interest if someone with a large shareholding is for selling up and soon.

  8. Another act of football vandalism by our board.

They really hold us in complete contempt. .

No doubt lawwell and Paul will be having a wee champagne tonight whilst laughing at us.

More EBT rangers nonsense no doubt to keep you looking at squirrels.

They are absolutely starting us on and off the pitch.

  9. I dedect an irrational fear amongst some posters of the Huns coming to overtake us. Note word irrational.

  10. bournesouprecipe on 29th August 2018 6:36 pm

You’d probably be best served actually addressing the posts/posters you’ve got a problem with, rather than the general sneering at fellow Tims who show concern about events surrounding our club. There’d be less chance of any misunderstanding. Just a suggestion.

  11. Not feeling at all good about this however the moment to properly judge is close of play on 31st August. A la Alan Partridge: Idea for a game show – “48 hours to spend 25 million”

Would be a good time for Which did to report his brilliant “we’ll see” story. And, if he does, gonnie sumdae email me on jobobaldie@yahoo.co.uk to alert me. Add oot for din dins.

L’equipe reporting MD to Lyon €25mil…

    ———-

Seen that. Looks a done deal.

  13. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

We have seen this movie before. Time and time again.

Are the directors trying to make us worse so there is a greater challenge from Sevco? In turn making Scottish football more marketable? That is the only rationale I can think of for this shambles of a window.

That, or PL doesn’t like BR questioning the board in public and is trying to engineer his exit?

It’s such a baffling window, I can’t think of any other reason.

  14. Yep, €25 million equates to £22.5 million.

Connor Salmon and John Sutton available at a snip. We could even offer sevco £12 million for Morelos and have £10.5 million to spare.

I wonder if Mr Lawwell will dare to show his face tomorrow night – or will his absence be down to trying to secure some last minute bargain basement deals?

  15. Could all the board haters tell us how they would run the enterprise that is Glasgow Celtic.

  16. Paul The Spark on

Not got a lot of faith that any business with players incoming will happen. Our transfer negotiations seem to drag on forever and that’s no use so late in the window.

    Fake news?

Next thing, the right wing faction of CQN will start calling fellow posters snowflakes!

  18. The Lawellratzi is in full love in swing on here as usual while Lawell presents Brendan with a 90 year old tranny in the windy instead of the promised young beautiful stunner.

    2. Honestly.

    3. Without contempt for the people that pay the Board’s salary.

  20. There is little merit in retaining a player who wants away, better to go now and realise a fee than have him turning up when the notion took him.

Good player of course, but wonder why Lyon? perhaps they are the Medical Center of excellence for hamstrings,!! lets not assume all we hear is the entire story.

Don’t know about anyone else but I kept waiting on him pulling up as he chased long balls,we shall see.

  21. mike in toronto on 29th August 2018 7:21 pm

Aye aw right it’s a false account, snowflake.

Another act of football vandalism by our board.

    ——-

We offered a contract extension and increase.

He was destined to go at any time and we knew that.

We have no control over other clubs coming in at the end of the window and there’s no use keeping an unhappy bunny on the books.

In less hyperbolic times we’ll look back and put the £500k to £22.5m (plus sell on) as a successful example of our business model, a model that will survive both Peter Lawell and Brendan Rodgers tenure regardless of the demand for heads to roll.

Like everyone else I’m just hoping we pull incoming rabbits out oif the hat before Friday night. We need them, as well as rebalancing a bloated squad, especially on projects that won’t deliver for us.

  23. Before I read that Moussa was a done deal I was going to predict the following scenario:

‘Tomorrow Celtic announce that Moussa has signed a new improved 5 year deal knowing that they are going to punt him in January for big bucks and with no intention of paying the 5 year contract, whilst simultaneously hoping that nobody notices that we have signed nobody else during the back slapping euphoria.’

  24. Delaneys Dunky on

    Dessy

I am baffled at the current strategy of our PLC.

Think I may give tomorrow night’s game a miss now.

    Scunnered

  25. Seems like Moussa is away. First of all, what a player and what a signing, all the very best to him.

Sadly this is the culmination of the most shambolic transfer window in recent history. We have one new player, Arzani, on loan, that is it. And we have lost three key players in MD, SA and PR. Rodgers will be gone at the end of the season at the latest. He wont put up with our dysfunctional and amateurish Board, and I don’t blame him.

  26. weebobbycollins on

Paris is lovely at this time of the year……..innit Moussa?

Aye! But what about winter nights playing in places like Monaco, Marseille, Nice……?
