Getting it right at the back against Fenerbahce

471

Jozo Simunovic has had an unusual first month as a Celtic player. His solitary appearance came in the Amsterdam ArenA two weeks ago, injury has kept him side-lined since, but there’s a good chance he’ll face Fenerbahce in two days’ time. It takes a lot for a 21-year-old to make his club, then home, debut in these circumstances.

Getting it right in defence on Thursday will be the most important area of the field for Celtic. The responsibility to attack normally lies with the home team in Europe but Fenerbahce will attack for all they’re worth at Celtic Park. A home defeat to Molde means that even a draw away to Celtic would put the Turks in a good position. They need a win and will have watched some of our defending this season.

Ronny played it perfectly against Ajax and I’d be tempted to do the same again. We can score against anyone at Celtic Park. Defend properly and we’ll do well.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Foundation since our Great Scottish Run appeal went out yesterday. The Foundation are currently working with the British Red Cross, Refugee Crisis Appeal, assisting people fleeing war and persecution in the Middle East and Europe. Money raised from this month’s Jock Stein Anniversary game went to this cause, and, in line with many other clubs, €1 from every ticket sold will go to assisting refugees. There’s a lot more to come on this subject.

The work goes on in other areas, of course, as the Foundation works with those who fall through the cracks in society, and sponsors projects with the sick, or families who need assistance. There are a number of us participating in the Great Scottish Run for the Foundation, you can contribute on any of the pages below:

Here for Robert Doherty’s.

Here for Stephen Hewitt’s.

Here for Kenny O’Neill’s.

If you are running for the Foundation and would like a shout for your donations page, email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com

And it’s not too late to sign up, get the trainers out, and run it yourself!

Thanks for your support.

    I really don`t think so,Ernie.

He may have given that impression, but I would have railed against that as much as the next Tim.

  3. Weeminger,

There was nothing in that article that unequivocally proved the Syrians were responsible, it’s a website I don’t or ever known about, do you have any info on its funding ?

    Bawsman,

I’m struggling to believe the Syrians are the only Air Force working in Syria but that’s not to say these barrel bombs were no dropped by the Syrians but a military power with the technology and munitions the Syrians have why would they be using such primitive devices ?

Saudi were caught bang to rights setting of chemical weapons in Syria, that is the reason there was no full scale invasion by the USA early on in the attempted overthrow of Assad.

I don’t support Assad or any other factions in Syria but I certainly don’t support NATO, Saudi or Israel trying to overthrow assad in the same manner they used in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybia or any other country they have reduced to warlord ruled anarchy over the last 50 years in the name of freedom or democracy, the biggest lie and too many believe it.

  4. Well done DD, a fantastic interview, and no one can ague with you on anything you said, in my opinion, (then again) a down to earth common sense interview, although I’ll give the crash course Uni mob some time to get their heads round it, and, pick, pick, pick, it’s what they do, and it’s there love, so why shouldent they bless em.

Precisely what I said to TAURANGABHOY earlier on. Who the hell wants to hang about wi people who say-Yes,you’re right-every time you say something?

That would irritate my nipples. I prefer the company of people with an opinion, and a brain. I reckon most of us do. And when that opinion conflicts with yours…

Yes,ya beauty! Let’s go for it,and whose round is it?

Falling out over it,na,not for me.

I often disagree with you! I hope respectfully.

    I enjoyed Kojo’s football posts.

I don’t know if he is a racist.

But I do know some of his comments were.

    In my opinion.

It had nothing to do with socialism versus capitalism.

It was originally (and mostly still is) just one guy called Elliot Higgins. He’s not a trained journalist but I think he started out trying to identify weapons or the remains of them at any rate in google images and youtube clips from Syria to try and identify who was attacking whom with what. He basically became a self educated expert.

He’s expanded from there and his site was the first to identify that MH17 was shot down by a Russian BUK missile from within Ukraine.

As far as I can tell (and who really knows these days) he’s as close to independent as you can find.

I have no real desire to get involved in the debate about what is happening in Syria, but if people were to educate themselfs prior to posting western propaganda pish it would help.

I spent some time in Syria in the early 2000’s, one of the most civilised nations on the planet imo, then the real destabalising of the region began, the west’s policy has failed big time in Iraq, Liyba and the consequences are there for all to see.

Prior to the invasion of Iraq, Syria was one of the most stable countries in the region, there was very little internal fighting bar a few sectarian problems, the same can be said for Iraq and Liyba, granted they were ran by fear and oppression, but in the main, most were educated, most had a job, most had food, most had a decent life till the west bombed the feck out of them and turned the region into the lawless state it is today.

    But blame the people eh.

I often wonder if the middle east didn’t have oil………………..but that is just the cynic in me.

    You`re right Ernie.

He did make a reference to Bobo which certainly sounded racist.

However, that particular term originally just meant a silly person.

In the fifties nigger brown was a commonly used term.

Agatha Christie`s “Ten little nigger boys” morphed to “Indians” although that`s probably unacceptable now too.

Piccaninnies and grandpapas …Lees Macaroon bars.

    Anyway.I`ve said my piece.

  12. Weeminger,

I read the information clearing house and a few other sites recommended on here with articles supplied by some big hitters in the reporting world, they investigate and use documented evidence it’s rarely down to opinion and they are financed by public donations.

Some of it reinforces my suspicions but sometimes makes me question what I think/thought I knew and it’s not always satisfying.

I simply no longer believe the western MSM in anything they report, experience has caused that.

So when I see anything backing the western version I immediately mistrust the source and demand evidence from independent non western sources.
