Getting it right at the back against Fenerbahce

Jozo Simunovic has had an unusual first month as a Celtic player. His solitary appearance came in the Amsterdam ArenA two weeks ago, injury has kept him side-lined since, but there’s a good chance he’ll face Fenerbahce in two days’ time. It takes a lot for a 21-year-old to make his club, then home, debut in these circumstances.

Getting it right in defence on Thursday will be the most important area of the field for Celtic. The responsibility to attack normally lies with the home team in Europe but Fenerbahce will attack for all they’re worth at Celtic Park. A home defeat to Molde means that even a draw away to Celtic would put the Turks in a good position. They need a win and will have watched some of our defending this season.

Ronny played it perfectly against Ajax and I’d be tempted to do the same again. We can score against anyone at Celtic Park. Defend properly and we’ll do well.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Foundation since our Great Scottish Run appeal went out yesterday. The Foundation are currently working with the British Red Cross, Refugee Crisis Appeal, assisting people fleeing war and persecution in the Middle East and Europe. Money raised from this month’s Jock Stein Anniversary game went to this cause, and, in line with many other clubs, €1 from every ticket sold will go to assisting refugees. There’s a lot more to come on this subject.

The work goes on in other areas, of course, as the Foundation works with those who fall through the cracks in society, and sponsors projects with the sick, or families who need assistance. There are a number of us participating in the Great Scottish Run for the Foundation, you can contribute on any of the pages below:

And it’s not too late to sign up, get the trainers out, and run it yourself!

Thanks for your support.

  1. Bhoys / Ghirls,

Clearly the cost for some to attend multiple games is untenable.

We have to find solutions or our crowds will decrease year on year.

Use the League cup for under 21,s only.

Sell Lennoxtown and use the cash to buy / loan better players, subsequently increasing our standard of play.

Price games at a realistic and affordable cost. Even if it means we only break even on some high profile games. Again this will stimulate interest and make family outings possible. If our youngsters do not get the ” bug” then our future fan base will be affected.

There are many more options that must be pursued but one thing if for sure:- doing nothing is not an option.

  2. mortgage fraud. See Lord ( honest I’m a socialist) Mandy; filled in his mortgage application which was devoid of the truth, he forgot to mention he borrowed £509k from another Labour MP which was a criminal offence. I wonder what happened to him?

  3. if we are pure keeking ourselves about fenerbahces strikers and we cant agree on the best defensive personnel then why dont we go for the 3-2-2-3 formation?

so, 3 left backs, 2 left central defenders, 2 right central defenders and 3 right backs

that means all of our defensive choices will get a game, and we wont leave ourselves exposed at the back, especially down the wings where we have had problems

  4. Bolitics and it is! so scroll by.

    HH to both you Celts:-)

  5. Read it Ernie, quite unsettling him trivialising ‘a wee stabbing’. He seems to have great knowledge of mortgage fraud, did he work for Lord Mandelson? Or Lord’ I used to be a Troyskist ‘ Darling, who claimed mortgage payments for his home in Edinburgh as his ‘second home’ and when he flogged his second home he said it was his main residence to avoid Capital Gains Taxes? Ernie, you’ve had your snout in the public trough for years, glad it all ended. Any corrupt MP/MSP jail them. Oh Ernie was Labour Lord George Foulkes at the match on Saturday? I hear he is not a fan of the Catholic Church, on the Popes visit to Scotland, he signed a motion against any public contribution to this Head of State, apropos the government pays for any visit from a Head Of State. Lord Foulkes son was find for sectarian abuse, surely he didn’t pick up any vibes from his da?

met C on saturday,ah noo know were you get sauve fae. :-)

But they weren’t though. one was shifted due to commonwealth games.

We’ve cancelled the first/second home game of the season a couple of times

  8. Here’s the decision:

    Disciplinary outcome: Leigh Griffiths (Celtic)

    Tuesday, 29 September 2015

A Disciplinary Tribunal convened in accordance with the Judicial Panel Protocol to consider the following case:

Alleged party in breach: Leigh Griffiths (Celtic FC)

    Disciplinary rule allegedly breached:

Disciplinary Rule 86 (for season 2013/14): Not acting in the best interests of Association Football by singing in public a song of an offensive and insulting nature.

    Outcome: Breach admitted

Sanction: A fine of £2500, payable within 30 days, and a two-match suspension, triggered if there is a further breach of Disciplinary Rule 77 before the end of season 2015/16.

If that’s the best defence you can mount in favour of Comrade Thomson then she’s stuffed.

The interesting point politically of course is that the nats haven’t sack her from her from her post yet. The fact that she was ever selected as a candidate and still remains in post makes you have to wonder what hold she has over them.

Great post p67 – we’ve got to be strong, they will actually think it is in their control

It all looks very dubious. Although in fairness it’s worth noting this comment from The Herald:

“Police sources stressed that Ms Thomson was not being investigated as part of the initial investigation”

He turned up last night on TV proclaiming, without a hint of irony considering his central role in Blairism, that Corbynism was ‘All Spin’.

you’d had thought they would have used their creative language talents to call the Hertz fans, East of Scotland football fans in the similar way they described the Sevconians as from the West.

I get the feeling they don’t like us…

  18. WEEMINGER on 29TH SEPTEMBER 2015 5:14 PM

I suspect that might change as the investigation develops.

    Follow the money.

What’s interesting is that the lenders appear to have done nothing about what has happened.

It seems to me that if they’ve got a valid security and the loan is being serviced they’ll turn a blind eye to all sorts chicanery and it’s only when their funds are at risk that they go after anyone.

I had the misfortune to tune into STV Sport about 15 mins ago,,,,Raman was speaking to Waghorn about how many goals he can score for the 3 year old club against postmen and plumbers, also how they will challenge for the title mext season and qualify for the champions league.

Raman never thought to challenge this by mentioning there record against top flight clubs…sycophantic garbage.STV just like SKY and the BBC are fully behind the myth, nothing but good PR,,,absolutely sickening.

I would argue we have seen less talent. This is a worry, but of course there is an answer.
