We have a curious end of season coming up. Out of the Scottish Cup and a matter of weeks away from securing the league, the last six weeks of the season will hold no competitive challenge for Celtic. Neil Lennon has suggested he will, as last season, rest players with next season’s Champions League qualifiers in mind.
The end of last season, however, was complicated by the Scottish Cup Final, so players were spared in small numbers, for short periods. There is no reason why we cannot give players the equivalent of their summer break the day after the title is secured, on the basis that they return earlier than normal, to build competitiveness before we experience our annual fright against a team we need to look up in order to spell.
Send them away as soon as possible, do a Kenny and play the promising youth players, and get the first team back very early.
Congratulations to Patrick Kerr, who was at table 16 at CQteN, and who has won a Champagne lunch for two at The Honours restaurant, Edinburgh. The Honours is owned by Michelin Star chef, Martin Wishart. It will be a great experience, Patrick. We’ll be in touch by email.
Seville – The Celtic Movement, is moving…
““Look at that old bloke there in the full kit. He looks like a Subutteo man”. Turned out it was my dad and we hugged and shed a tear. We were altogether as most of the guys from our CSC had met him and heading to a European final. Our CSC was 5 years old. We had our flag and we were ready to watch our team lift the cup.”

“A guy hit me with the same logic in the pub on Friday, must be theme of the month, although in his mitigation he was plastered……………..”
The Zombies have to be steamin’ just to talk about football in the company of Celtic fans. It’s a taboo subject for most of them these days.
BRTH so sorry to read your sad news.
RIP James McGinley.

That’s my experience of them too.
They are shameful and desperate lot at the best of times. But at the moment, it transcends those descriptions to even greater levels of fun fun fun.!
My condolences to BRTH and family.
Good bless James McGinley.

They provide hours of merriment on every level.
I posted on here a few months ago about encountering a half-cut Zombie one night, and he told me they should boycott Dundee United forever because they blocked the CVA.
I almost wet myself laughing at him. He toddled off looking even more confused than usual. I’m still smiling about now.
Len Brennan,
Great post regards yer dad. My old man used to take us over to Kerrykeel every summer, to my uncle’s bar, Shields bar in the main street.
Haven’t been there in over 20 years, but it is always in my heart.

The Zombies make a lot of assumptions and they are wrong virtually every time.

Dear BRTH
You have hinted for some time that your dad’s days were coming to an end and that you used the time to get even closer to him and find out more about his stories and legacy. Such time is precious for now and for ever.
What you have shared with us amply illustrated the man he was both with and outwith the Celtic connection.
Peace to you and your family and eternal rest to your dad.
BRTH
Sorry to read about your dad’s passing. Please accept my condolences.

22:00 Atlético-MG (Bra) v Nacional (Par)
The “Galo” threw this one away last week when they allowed Nacional to equalize with a late “schoolboy error” penalty. They’ll be desperate to avoid doing the same this week.
Whilst Galo are, arguably, one of the strongest midfield/attacking sides in the competition they are (like a lot of teams) defensively suspect in the central and left sided positions. However, this is currently due to injuries.
Nacional thought that they were the better team in the first leg and were robbed by the referee. As far as I can make out they are unchanged for this match.
Overall Galo controlled the game last week and should be too strong at home.
Prediction : HOME WIN
22:45 Peñarol (Urg) v Arsenal (Arg)
For varying reasons Penarol manager Fosatti has only 17players to choose from for this one. That, plus an important weekend game against Porteño followed by a long away trip to Santos, may explain why there’s little public interest in this game in Uruguay and, perhaps, give Arsenal their best chance of victory in a long time. Only bright thing I can say about Penarol is Jonathan Rodriguez is DEFINITELY a good player in a bad team.
Arsenal had a tough fought 1-1 draw with Rosario to continue their patchy domestic form (2 wins in 7 matches). They have promised that they will go out and chase victory here tonight. Maybe.
Prediction – (based on Penarol’s abysmal season, so far)DRAW
01:00 León (Mex) v Emelec (Ecu)
Currently ninth in the Liga MX, Léon huffed and puffed to a 1-0 away defeat at Guadalajara at the weekend. Last week they deserved a point in their 2-1 defeat in Ecuador and will be looking to supply sharp looking, Carlos Peña the ammunition to gain a crucial three points here.
Sitting top of their domestic league, Emelec are no mugs. Men to watch out for here being the forward pairing of Luis Escalada (who scored two against Leon last week) and Denis Stracqualursi. Emelec will be looking for, at least a draw here.
Prediction – (sticking ma neck out)DRAW
01:00 Newell’s Old Boys (Arg) v Gremio (Bra)
Once again the game of the round.
Newell’s were solid defensively last week and cautious when going forward. That being said they introduced Trezueget late on up front to try to snatch an away win. Gremio have already said they’ll not sit in and defend this one, but take the game to Newell’s.
With central defensive pairing Wesley and Rhodolfo declared fit, Gremio have no injury worries, other than veteran midfielder, Ze Roberto. Manager Enderson Moreira (who in himself, based on recent form , could be a name to watch for future) will probably prefer the more attack minded Dudu over tough tackling midfielder, Alan Ruiz as his replacement.
NOB have injury doubts over two key players, Figueroa and Maxi Rodriguez and may field ex-Valencia man, Éver Banega and Trezueguet up front in their place. Banega was out most of last season with multiple leg injuries after running himself over with his own car!
Based on form, thus far, I’d not be surprised if the eventual Libertadores winners doesn’t come from either of these two teams
Prediction – (a squeaky bum)DRAW
01:00 Bolivar (Bol) v Flamengo (Bra)
Bolivar are part of telecom’s (Brightstar) empresário Marcello Claure’s (an associate of David Beckham’s and FIFA committee member) ego trip to promote Bolivian football. To this end he has brought in veteran Spanish manager, Xabier Azkargorta who has recruited countrymen Callejón, Moya and Capdevila to create a useful looking side. That, in conjunction with Flamengo’s injury worries, plus the La Paz altitude, should make them clear favourites for this one.
On the other hand, ‘mengo have several injury worries including key midfielders Elano and Carceres. However, the return of veteran captain, Leo Maura at RB will help (but not solve) a shaky defense. ‘mengo have also elected to train at low altitude Santa Cruz for this one (and were flooded out yesterday) which may also work against them.
Prediction : HOME WIN (75%)

Surely to goodness Dundee United will end this deedco ‘treble’ nonsense, would hate to have to rely one a Derek McInnes led sheep troup in case he gets afflicted by the same ailment that Stuart McCall suffers from. Unless he wants the deedco jig for himself, but no, a chance we cant take, Jackie will have to do the biz.
I can see deedco getting stuck in the championship next season, as a result of which I would expect Sleekit to get sacked, pretty confident that will happen unless – the man who would be king spoils it all by giving Sleekit a war chest. Would he be that daft with his money? Certainly hope not.
BRTH
A sad day but he’s now at peace. I lost my old man last May and, like yours, he had a full and long life, but it’s never long enough for the rest of us. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Sevco have no chance of beating Dundee United. I can’t understand why people are even fretting about it.
They will do well to avoid a heavy defeat.
rock tree bhoy.. the man who would be king hasn’t mentioned putting his own cash on the table as far as I know.. he probably now needs his original £20m back now that he paid his way out of a jail sentence….

Sincere condolences my friend on the loss of your Father, may he Rest In Peace and may you and yours treasure him in your hearts for all your days….
