Getting the job done tomorrow will take all of us

Much of the team picks itself tomorrow.  Hart, Juranovic, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Taylor, McGregor, Jota and Kyogo.  Ange Postecoglou has to decide whether to play Abada or Maeda on the wing, and who from O’Riley, Hatate and Turnbull will miss out.

I expect O’Riley and Hatate to get the nod.  If Abada also starts, that would mean, from the side that won this fixture in February, the only change would be Kyogo for Giakoumakis.

Whomever we start with, we know to expect a game in parts; one line-up for the first hour or so, with a significantly changed look for the remainder of the game.

Newco are likely to go with the team that won in Eindhoven, with the exception of injured Tom Lawrence.  By my measure, they will have three who have never been to Celtic Park before, as well as the keeper, who only played there once, for Hearts.  A partisan +59,000 support in attendance can ensure they feel a long way from home.

How the game is officiated is a worry.  The decision Newco got while tied at 0-0 with Ross County last week may inhibit the chances of a similar act tomorrow.  Better to have them get away with such a glaring one when the stakes are lower.

No matter how good you think Celtic are playing right now, Newco are in the Champions League group stage because they know how to get the job done.  We are facing a Champions League team and will need a rocking Celtic Park to get the job done.

    Hail Hail

    HH amigo

  2. Good morning Celtic fans across the globe all the way from the Garngad.

Let’s get behind the team as we always do (positive vibes n awe that).

We are in a far better position this year but this is a test.

Huns will try and play their European game of that there is no doubt, suck us in and counter. We need to be mindful of this.

Ange and the bhoys over to you.

    D :)

  3. Agree with the sentiment.

Celtic v Newco are rarely a walk in the park.

The energy from the crowd and real support not just when the going is good. Encouragement when the players need it, will matter today.

We have a team who have all been through this fixture 4 times emerging with 2 wins a loss and a draw ratio of results.

They have a team and a squad who have 3-6 players who have not experienced this fixture. Likely 3-4 starters.

We have a team not yet put to the test by a really tough opponent this season.

The support, for the full 95 mins, as St Tams says could play a critical role.

3-1 for Celtic with the bench and crowd getting us over the line in the final 30 mins is my prediction.

  4. D66 Probs only one of many….unfortunately

By the by….Big Jimmy says he met the best Tim ever, in his life, yesterday (no, not me) ;-))

Lights the fuse and steps back ;-))

  5. The big day is upon us . If we don’t let them bully our s we hopefully will have to much for them , I hope us on the terraces do our bit as last time at Celtic park we scared them . HH

  6. My friends in Celtic,

On this “fine” morning, forget who said this or who said that.

It’s all about the Celtic today.

PS Burnley 78, I don’t think we need worry too much about backing the team today. Cheers.

  7. Considering there’s no Old Firm game today it’s difficult to understand what all the excitement and anticipation is about.

Hard to believe it’s Just Another Saturday.

  8. Ernie…it’s the first derby of the season against our biggest and closest league rivals, we’ve a great chance to go 5 clear……..but naw you think it’s all about the O** F***….get over yourself

  9. Hatate destroyed them in the 3-0 game.

Lundstrum and the ref ensured that it didn’t happen in the last game.

I expect much the same today. Reo, Jota and Kyogo will be in for some heavy treatment.

    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,

They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,

We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the Scottish football league.

You don’t believe a word of that, and you know that everyone knows you don’t believe a word of it.

  12. Calm now Celts

  13. Hrvatski Jim

Will get back to you jim,bit of rush at mo :-),thanks for your valued insights.

    Enjoy today

    Hail Hail

  14. I know exactly how it’s perceived…but it doesn’t mean I have to buy into the bullshit…so stop trying to put meaning where there’s none. I will enjoy the game, ta ;-))

  15. The Huns are our greatest threat domestically, that is undisputable.

Sevco bring the same Support, & the same baggage as did their predecessors.

They were Huns then, they are Huns now.

It is 100% natural that we are up for this game more than any other domestic challenge,

We will be ecstatic if we win, distraught if we lose & somewhere in between if we draw.

What is a lot more strange is that a former Celtic Supporter who by his own admission has now only a passing interest of Celtic, hangs around a Celtic Blog for years like a bad smell & keeps acting the smartarse trying to rain on our Parade.

  16. Greenpinata.

I hope you are right. The expectation can quickly become desperation cascading down if there are 2 miss placed passes.

Hopefully not today. That and the mib are biggest concerns. Our football should take care of it though.

Enjoy your day. I hope it’s a great one.

  17. Right i’m aff………up to screwfix….. lol then to the game. Told the missus she doesn’t need to hide her best china cos i’m confident.

    Mon the hoops🍀

  18. Ernie

Your bitterness will eat you up. It’s not healthy to be like that. The world has moved on.

I hope on some level you are supporting Celtic today and the team performs well enough to give you a wee injection of happiness.

  19. It’s only strange if you don’t see it for what it is.

Some people just enjoy others’ pain and discomfort. CQN on a day like today when everyone’s jumpy is fertile ground.

  20. The flip side to it is it’s painful for some people to see others happy and enjoying themselves.
