“Giant punishments” on Rangers were illusory, you were punished instead

1014

Malcolm Murray, the newly appointed chairman of the Newco club Charles Green hopes to establish, yesterday entertained us with his comments on punishments served on a football team suspected of cheating you for over a decade.  He said:

“We’ve had giant punishments already – a European ban, a 10-point deduction, the emotional trauma everyone has suffered. I think, for the good of Scottish football, it’s much better Rangers in the SPL.”

There has been no European ban.  Newco will not be eligible for European competition because it is a Newco and Uefa requires three years accounts from participating clubs.  They are simply not eligible, they have not and will not achieve the qualification criteria for European football for three years.

The 10-point penalty imposed on Rangers last season for seeking protection from creditors by going into administration is hardly a “giant” punishment.  It changed nothing.  Rangers were second in the league when it was imposed and remained so.  They released no players and went on to defeat Motherwell twice, ensuring they finished the league in second place, earning £900k in additional prize money.

As a punishment, it is the equivalent of banning Ally McCoist from this year’s 100m Olympic competition.  Pointless.

Which leaves us with “the emotional trauma everyone has suffered”.  Compared to the emotional trauma suffered by Dundee, Motherwell, Gretna, Third Lanark fans, recent events have been nothing more than a focus for some robust rallying calls.

Don’t even start me on the emotional cost of losing the league in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011, all to a team of cheats.  How do you measure that?  Think back to each day we lost those titles and tell me how you felt about them then and how you feel now, knowing you were cheated.

  6. TomMcLaughlin – you don’t find the idea of a communist govt like Poland helping to defeat a very left leaning union like the NUM ironic? I do.

  7. Can any of you boffins help me

Was asked, by a luenose, if they would need a new strip and badge for next season.

Had assumed so but wasnt sure.

Obviously the 5 cheating stars disappear but can the RFC badge continue as is or does a new emblem have to be created for both the strips and the rusty old padlocked gates?

I am sure some of you guys will be able to advise.

    Cheers in advance.

weegreenman if it is a private company, eg euro parks or of that ilk attach the notice to your next lantern. The only forces that can pursue payment, in court is the local council or police. I was issued with one in Hamilton and refused to pay it eventually they stopped writing threatening letters as they know they have no legal leg to stand on

It is all specified in National Club Licensing for SFL clubs and below and UEFA FFP Licensing which the SFA use as a template for SPL clubs.

There are a number of criteria on grounds, development, finance etc.

    It is all in here.

Exactly what I stated was the core of my anger, Paul.

It is not just the loss of titles to CHEATS. It is the loss of Champions League money for each and every one of those years which allowed THEM to exist that little bit longer, and to deny our club tens of millions of pounds.

With that extra income, where would we be this very day? Indeed, where would we have been? Another Seville?

Utterly remorseless cheats looking for pity.Hell mend them.

I was told by a fellow CQNer with a contact that agents told players to hold off and see how the CVA vote went.

Keeping the playing squad intact is a key element of the strategy of whoever tries to get into the SPL. If you do not have recognised professional players at that level how can you possibly justify being allowed in. To do what get relegated and rewrite the rules for next season.

Nope the strategy is omerta on player trading. Players of course will have told agents to line up the best options but I can see emotional pleas being made, particularly by the Smith led consortium, for players to stay.

But on what wages, surely not the ones subsisdised by the unwilling taxpayer?

Nope it is but a matter of time before that particular truth dam breaks, I see Phil tweeting Davis is offski. The first cracks?

I have been to Sydney twice, but both times on business, and saw nothing but airports, taxis, board rooms and hotel rooms.

The first time I planned to meet Sydney Tim, but it didn’t happen because of my work. Second time I didn’t even bother.

So, I am an opera lover and my missus has promised me my dream night at the Sydney Opera House, as the highlight of a proper visit to the city.

I promise I will give both you and ST a call beforehand and I will see the REAL sydney.

Incandescant with anger and despondency. The worst was when we were playing Hertz at CP on the last day of the season when they stopped our four in a row.

To know they cheated to win these titles leaves me sour……it should leave the whole of Scottish football sour.

But now we know they didn’t stop 4IAR, or 5IAR, or 6IAR indeed are we not on 12IAR and counting?

As I think Curly succinctly puts it…let cheating dogs die!

  18. Theweegreenman–tel Greenock Mall to GTF. This has been tested in court here—or was to be tested, and the “parking” company withdrew. It’s a scam. They’ll try to strongarm you. Take them to the small claims court or its Scottish equivalent. They won’t want to know.

As you say Paul, there is nothing that can compensated us for those titles. Motherwell was particularly painful.

Can I also say that the 10 point penalty was to Rangers not The Rangers. They have never been penalised a point as they have never played a game and don’t even have any players.
