Gibraltar echoes a caution for Belfast

235

I was cautioned yesterday on my assumption that Linfield would be fodder for the Celtic machine next month. The words, “You mean they’re no Lincoln Red Imps?” was the retort. Red Imps occupy a minor detail in the story of last season; a curiosity at the beginning of the Brendan Rodgers regime, bound to become a quiz question of the future.

Linfield will reach the second qualifying round of the Champions League and will be despatched by Celtic, but the jeopardy of a reversal in Belfast is a real possibility. While none of us begrudge Red Imps their moment of glory, the prospect of waiting a week to put right an indifferent early season performance would cause consternation.

Be ready for it, Celtic. Your opponents will be.

    TET,

I think I am in the minority on this point, but I think the zombies have improved their player pool considerably over last season.

The young striker they signed (Morales?) seems to be able to score (okay … maybe not the best league).

Bruno Alves was a good player in his day. At 35 he is nearing the end, but may still be good enough to play in Scotland. Pena has 19 caps for Mexico, which is in the top 20 countiries. Herrera doesn’t score much, but puts himself about, and, again, has a few caps for Mexico. I dont know the portugese players as much, but generally, the Portugese players have a decent level of skill..

Even with decent players, there is always a question of whether they adapt to the hurly burly that is scottish football/playing in scottish winters.

And there is the question of whether Pedro is as poor a coach as he looked last season, or whether he was just not used to working with donkeys.

The bigger question for me is how they are paying (for) these players. Even at 35, Alves will demand a decent wage. And last season, they were bleeding money… and now, they have added a lot of new wages, but Id ont think they have cleared out nearly as much in the way of wages. So, are they once again, banking on a Euro run to get them through the end of the season? That is my bet. And, my bet, is once again, that will end in disaster. Well, it would end in disaster, if it were any other team in any other country… but, as we saw previously, rules dont seem to apply to R***s/Sevco….

  3. Anyone any idea when Brendan returns from his honeymoon. Everyone’s entitled to a break, but there’s work to be done, starting with the contract of SA.

For sure they have, they really couldn’t be any worse could they, Alves will get away with murder in scotland, a bit like granda weir did for them, the rest will do Ok, they will not believe what they can get away with, but like thier forefather of last year, the spl is a different kettle of fish as the magic hat found out, will Pedro cut it, who knows, but I wouldn’t bet on it, they will either give the sheep a decent run for their money or they will struggle, as yet I haven’t a clue what will transpire, but one thing I do know is they will never in a month of sundays get close to us.

Let’s look at what we know,

The retail deal had 6 years left to run.

SD were taking RIFC to court meaning RIFC could be liable for £m’s.

The existing retail deal had a clause forcing RIFC to buy back unsold stock.

    Assumptions

Stewart Robertson goes to SD with his begging bowl.

He needs to take litigation off the table.

He has unsold stock worth millions.

    SD won’t do walking away.

    Conclusion

It does appear that a deal has been struck. The curious issues are the alleged one year deal and that the old stock is being sold. And why would MASH deal with King.

King telling the peepul the old deal has been terminated makes it look like a win. They will now go and buy the unsold stock. Asking the peepul to buy strips under the old deal was untenable.

    Regardless, SD are still involved.

Are we to believe that MASH has simply capitulated taking into account all of the above? Just can’t see it.

The Invincible One flew back from his honeymoon on Monday. My Brother in Law was on his flight back from Majorca. He spent lots of time having selfies taken with crew and passengers alike. An absolute credit to our club I was told.

You can hopefully get a good night’s sleep now! :-)

  21. thetimreaper on

Agent Scotland on twitter is normally reliable with player contract details, he said Alves was on £18k a week, 2 year deal, player has option to walk away after one year. No info on signing on fee.

  22. No matter how bad or good the retail deal is,IMHO,Ashley has come out of this looking like a big bloody bag of wind.At every turn King has made him look bad.Good God,in July he was supposed to have a rock solid case against King, with estimated 5 million in damages.Scrapped now.Glibby has given the impression to all that he has bitch slapped Ashley.

I really thought that reputation was a big thing for the likes of the Ashleys of this world. To be seen to be bested by Glibby, makes him look like a buffoon.

Before anyone starts on their theory of how the deal works,I know all that, does not change the fact that on the face of it,Ashley has backed down.

    Twat of a man.
