Gibraltar echoes a caution for Belfast

235

I was cautioned yesterday on my assumption that Linfield would be fodder for the Celtic machine next month. The words, “You mean they’re no Lincoln Red Imps?” was the retort. Red Imps occupy a minor detail in the story of last season; a curiosity at the beginning of the Brendan Rodgers regime, bound to become a quiz question of the future.

Linfield will reach the second qualifying round of the Champions League and will be despatched by Celtic, but the jeopardy of a reversal in Belfast is a real possibility. While none of us begrudge Red Imps their moment of glory, the prospect of waiting a week to put right an indifferent early season performance would cause consternation.

Be ready for it, Celtic. Your opponents will be.

All the backshift workers say that Celtic will sell Moussa @ £30Million… Can you believe this pish?

A player being sold for that amount?

    WTF.

    Fjords of Sweden

Fjords of Sweden is actually a long narrow inlet of water stretching in land. The sides of the fjords often rise at an angle to make a valley. So the fjord actually lies in the bottom of valley. There are many fjords of Sweden, which have often been formed when a glacial valley gets flooded by the sea. U-shaped valley gets cut through due to the graze and scrape of the immediate bedrock by the sediment and rock it carries.

Most of the fjords of Sweden were created during recent ice ages when the sea was at a much lower level than it is today. These bights and narrow inlets on the Swedish Baltic Sea coast, and in most Swedish lakes are visited by a large number of tourists all over the world.

Interesting data from the 2017 GE.

Seemingly support for the Conservative party rose 12% among the working class. However this was countered by a large rise in support for Labour among the professional middle classes and younger voters.

There is much work to do , but consider this :- The Labour manifesto was , imo a sensible one , whereas the Tory manifesto was a disaster , with a series of own goals.

From a Celtic point of view , it should not matter what mainstream political allegiances a supporter has ,in this all inclusive, welcoming club. There is good and bad from all sections of society, and football supporters for that matter.

    Hail, hail.

Ps: Don’t really like labels and it makes no difference, however I wonder what ratio of CQN,ers would fall under the umbrella of ” Professional middle class” with statistician’s.

    Hello , there.

I have a healthy scepticism about poll results .

Apparently ” older voters ” voted overwhelmingly in favour of Brexit.

How can they possibly know that ? Exit polls ?

Demographically , there is fairly compelling evidence that traditional Labour strongholds voted for Brexit and subsequently voted for Corbyn.

    Good .

Issues are what matter , not traditional allegiances.

As regards the data , I would accept , however , that there is a logic to the results you share.

It would seem to accurately reflect current attitudes in Australia.

My son tells me that Uni students at Sydney are universally of the left .

Not to mention their tutors. Perhaps there`s a connection. :-)

I agree with you about labels.

My attitudes to social welfare issues would hardly differ from many of our co – bloggers .

Theresa is dead woman walking which is a pity . Only because UK needs sound and strong representation in the Brexit negs.

    The people deserve that.

    Can she provide it ?

    Boris ?

Memberships – the importance of joining the SFSA

With 4 million attendances at Scottish Football games last season by fans of all clubs you would like to think that your views as a “football customer” would be valued by those who run the game on our behalf. Sadly, as we all know supporters have had very little say in how the game is run. We think that is wrong and with every new member and fans group that joins us the opportunity to increase the pressure for change increases. Please take this link and circulate it far and wide as we gear up for our biggest ever campaign in the months ahead http://scottishfsa.org/reclaimthegame/

  9. Kev

    Morning.

Celtic froze season ticket prices last season so they didn’t charge me any extra to watch Sevco. It was part of the season ticket price.

Sevco set the prices for the games at ibroke, and charge us £49, the same as we charged them. ( I don’t go to Ibrox)

It didn’t cost me a penny more to watch Celtic last season than it did the year before.

This season it’s cost me £50 more. Given our ambition shown as evidenced by the contract to Brendan, the ambition as stated by Brendan to progress to the last 16 in CL, I’m happy to pay the surplus.

I’m similar age to yourself Kev, ex jungle bhoy. I feel you’re missing out on a wonderful time in our history. I respect your principled stance Kev but I think it’s a little misguided.

Having said all that, hope to meet you in CP some day soon Kev. Hope you’re healthy bud. HH

This is the time I really want to hear from PL.Ben Turpin in the tabloids today telling everyone that we have had “An unnatural advantage”over them.WTF.This is what gets me.After what they did,and still do,he can come out with crap like this.Last night I railed against Ashley.I am still of that mind.Squinty eyes telling the world that the old deal of 7P in the pound scrubbed, and a much better deal on the table. When asked “How much”Would not say.

Ashley should be getting his side of the story out there. To let a two bit con man like King bad mouth you in public, claiming total victory over you, surely cannot be tolerated by anyone with a reputation in business.

The same goes for Celtic. To have year upon year of financial prudence and a healthy balance sheet, only for this charlatan to denigrate it as “An unnatural advantage”,cannot be allowed to stand.

I fully expect a response from Celtic on this matter. If Ashley is happy to be made look like a loser, thats his concern.

He needs to move on for his career sake. Technically good but too slow to play in BR’s midfield, same as Bitton who I would expect to be sold this window. I think he would do well in Championship down south.

  25. Sevco aren’t ‘back’ in Europe, never having ‘qualified’ until now in their brief 5 year history. Don’t take my word for it, ask Andrea Traverso, UEFA Head of Club Licensing.

As for Glibby’s ‘unnatural advantage’ nonsense, I can’t see Celtic making any comment on this unless asked directly at a press conference. I mean, for years they’ve let the lie propagated on the SPFL website go unchallenged. You know, the won that backs Sevco claims to 54 top tier championships and umpteen cups, and the title of being Scotland’s ‘most successful club’, founded in 1872, a false claim that affects the Celtic brand.

  29. Morning all

    Off to work soon

Not really bothered what King says about us – small man syndrome.

As for the trumpeted deal I would imagine that there will be more ( possibly less financially) to it than is being trumpeted by ‘Rangers’ but it does occur that it is at the very least not bad news for them and may well be the best news they have had in their short history. Does it matter to us? Not if we allow ourselves to be distracted by it – we should stick to our own strategy ( as tweaked a year ago) and the money they get for selling shirts and other trinkets won’t make a whole lot of difference.

Henderson to Aberdeen? Sorry if its true as I think he is a good player who is no worse technically than some who have been given more chances but, like Ryan Christie, he has never made the case for himself decisively when given the opportunity in the way that Callum McG did at the end of the season and Stuart A did when he got his chance in the autumn. Being ‘promising’ and ‘quite good’ is not enough. We will have to see if its true obviously.

Linfield game? Cast a bit of a gloom to put it mildly. Real potential for bother – here as well as over there- and all I can hope is that the San Marino team springs a surprise.
