Gilmour remarkable rant against Doncaster, echoes of 2012

236

The Twitter outburst by former St Mirren chairman, Stewart Gilmour against SPFL chief exec, Neil Doncaster’s appointment to the SFA board, called “a bloody disgrace” and “in there as a puppet”, is remarkable on any level.

Despite working inside the game for many years, all Gilmour offered was the kind of Twitter rant any of us could come up with.  In short, that the SFA appointed someone they knew, with influence in the game.  If you are looking for the specifics behind Gilmour’s objection, you will not find it.

What Gilmour didn’t say was who supposedly was working Doncaster as a puppet.

Decisions made by the SPFL in 2012, when the league decided not to invite Newco Rangers (then Sevco) were not universally popular on the St Mirren board.  You heard other echoes of that time last year when Gilmour suggested that one of the Celtic Park backroom team was pulling the strings of Scottish football: “Some of the chairmen that attend the meetings will not take Peter [Lawwell] on. I think he’s got too much power on other clubs.”

We can only guess who Gilmour believes is pulling Neil Doncaster’s strings, but I suggest it is laughable, whoever it is.

jeanette findlay interviews across the meeja tonight is quite excellent.

    hat doffed.

  5. Doncaster is a strange one. He has carried on in the past and seemed to bend over backwards to aid Rangers and indeed Sevco. He is a big backer of the survival myth.

However, in his recent Interview Peter Lawwell called him one of the “good” people, which at the time surprised Tom English. He has been no friend of Celtic in the past.

However, if Celtic are building an alliance then perhaps Doncaster would be able to deliver some support from a number of clubs and there for a broad based opposition to Macrae Petrie and their supporters. It could be that he is looking to climb the ladder.

I think that him showing ambition to get on in the game beyond Scotland might has seen him taking a pragmatic view rather than a “St Paul on the road to Damascas” conversion. He may want to be on the winning side.

Doncaster is part of the Coup and is lined up on the SFA Board on the side of the “modernisers” and against the Macrae/Petrie faction who could be down to 3. If Ian Murray gets the CEO job then they will find themselves in a minority.

If we see the end to people like Bryson and others then Doncaster might be a bitter pill to swallow

Slow tonight, so let’s have a quiz.

I have seen 3 photographs today that accompany the repeal of the Offensive Behaviour Act, or whatever it is called.

Question: in all three, which team’s colours have always been in the foreground and been most prominent?

Question 2: in a football related story concerning Celtic and Rangers, does the MSM put Rangers before Celtic or Celtic before Rangers?

Question 3: in a story regarding sectarian behaviour, does the MSM put Celtic before Rangers or Rangers before Celtic.

Question 4: in an action photograph involving a Celtic and Rangers players, is the Celtic player on the right or left? Clue: we read from left to right.

Question 5: in the run up to ‘old firm’ games when both club/clumpany crests are shown side by side or one above the other, does the Celtic crest eclipse the Rangers crest or vice versa?

I’m probably paranoid, but try it out for yourselves.

  15. Ivanovic conned the referee at the Leipzig penalty and psyched out the penalty taker with the delay. Even had the cheek to glad hand the ref after the GK saved it (yards off the line as usual). Should have booked Ivanovic and that would have shut him up.

Almost Heaven West Virginia, give me the high road and the low road any day.

However in saying that there are parts of the country falling apart, Pennsylvania State had to sell the Turnpike, allegedly the first Interstate built post WWII by Eisenhower, to a Spanish consortium in an effort to keep toll rates relatively cost effective.

  18. Bill (Celtic Fan) Talks EBTs on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard 13-09-12

Bill the Celtic supporter phones up Clyde 1 Superscoreboard to discuss Charles Green’s media outbursts and the outcome of the ongoing EBT investigation at Rangers. Bill believes that Rangers should lose their titles if the dual contract case goes against Rangers, while Hugh Keevins argues otherwise. Whether Celtic “bottled it” or not, Flanders is completely ignorant and dismissive of the fact that the tax avoidance in EBTs and the associated dual contracts would give Rangers an unfair sporting advantage over the whole season and not just in a single competitive game.
