GIVE GORDON A BREAK,’ SAYS RIVAL

CRITICS should lay off Craig Gordon, insists Dundee keeper Scott Bain who believes the stick he has taken for Celtic’s set-piece woes is over the top.

The international shotstopper has taken some flak following last weekend’s defeat to Aberdeen as well as for his display in the 2-2 draw with Ajax in the Europa League on Thursday.

Gordon was criticised for allowing the Dutch side’s equaliser to sail into the net having previously been deemed to be at fault for 10-man Dons’ late winner at Pittodrie.

Bain has hit back at the snipers and said: “Craig had some unfair criticism in the last couple of games, especially against Ajax. He got a bit of stick for the second goal.

“But, for me, it’s a good ball in and one he can’t really come for. For people to be screaming for him to come out and collect, it’s very harsh.

“To criticise him for that goal is wrong. He’s a great keeper. In fact, he has been great for years.

“He’s one I’ve always watched since I was a kid. Everyone knows the admiration I have for him.

“He did great to come back so well last season after injury, but I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

“Scotland has some really good keepers these days and it’s good for me to not only play against them but to watch them, also.

“I’ve grown up watching the likes of Craig, Allan McGregor and David Marshall. So it’s great for me.”
