Give me a player with a point to prove

231

I’m a great believer in footballers having a point to prove.  Reo Hatate is such a case.  Over the summer he spoke about how his form tailed off towards the end of last season and he planned to up his game this term, which he has.

Now, omitted from the Japan squad for their game against USA, his chance of being involved at the World Cup appears limited.  From our return to action on Saturday, Celtic have 13 games in six weeks before club football breaks and players head off to Qatar.

In that time, Reo will help his team qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.  His performances in this tournament against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk demonstrate he can operate comfortably at this elite level.  Helping Celtic reach the next stage will platform him and his teammates.

The player’s disappointment is understandable, but it would do no harm if he and Kyogo again missed out on action when Japan face Ecuador in Germany tomorrow.

  1. Having failed to make any significant headway in increasing the support for Scottish independence despite Brexit and a Westminster government which is beyond parody it is understandable that the cult are getting concerned at the prospect of a Labour government.

And all the while the simmering resentment and conflict bubbling below the surface of their movement continues to grow.

    If not now, when?

    And what about dissent?

Is the current basket of civic values in Scotland the gospel truth?

Or is it open to interpretation / development in light of experience.?

Civic nationalism as a concept is a comfort blanket to those who have become caught up in the current wave of Nat luv but who know in their heart of hearts that nationalism is not a good thing / where society needs to be — so they invent an extension to old school nationalism to try and salve their conscience.

They are kidding themselves on — when push come to shove it is all one nationalism.

    Identity politics.

    Grievance politics.

    The politics of blame.

Then finally find a victim politics.

When it comes to nationalism — everyone is to blame but “us / me”.

The usual suspects looking for a simple solution to a complex world.

Transport issues — build ferries or blame Westminster / Tories — easy decision for a Nat.

This is a very significant and deeply troubling warning from the US. Not at all clear whether the government yet understands the scale of the crisis nor whether there are any grown ups left, after successive purges, to whom Britain can turn to get a grip.

However they did not fall into the media trap, they did not score an own goal and the did not embarras the leadership.

Sometimes you have to put your principles to one side for the greater good.

  13. What does polling tell us about independence support this year?

A major survey used to gauge the attitudes of people across the UK has found a majority of Scots support leaving the UK – and that the Union “has become decidedly less popular” in Scotland.

  14. Thon game against Dundee in 1988 was the biggest crowd I have ever seen at Celtic Park. I gave up trying to get in to the Jungle at 2 o’clock. I had arranged to meet my mate there in our usual place. For the first time in my life, I went in to the rangers end. At 2 o’clock it was fairly empty. By about 20 past, it was crowded. The crowding was only relieved when the young lhads were allowed on to the track.

I never met my mate at all that day.

  15. Reports of injuries to our international call ups is concerning.

I guess we’ll know soon enough.

Regarding politics – gesture politics, by politicians, rarely ends well. We’ve seen this from SG and now from UK govt.

Voters who make their selection based on identity politics is also causing issues. We’re seeing more votes for parties at the extremities.

  16. I was going to say something about the Castlemilk con man King ,but with him at the helm,he’ll mend them.

Dragged to the right, which marketing parties do

We await the alignment, just like last time when Margaret’s ‘favourite politician’ promised to stay with all prev tory guidelines.

The deification of the murderer is sick.but it is vital the amnesia kicks in.

That’s what happens when principles are set aside for the greater good.

Greater good being those city and offshore types, whose welfare excelled, while those in Pollok continued to stay in one of Europe’s poorest areas with generational poverty….oops you didn’t regulate banks…now we the public have to bail out their debt.

Socialism to me was always from bottom up

    Not with murdochs murder.

  18. Another wee memory about that title winning day against Dundee.

Me and the mate left early as we were headed to a title celebration.

Our quickest route through Brigton Cross, we were dressed for a

night out with our wives, so no colours on, as you do lol.

Always wary of marauding Huns I spotted this dapper little chap

heading across the road towards us, he muttered the usual F B

stuff as he passed which I never heard because of deafness in my

left ear, just as my mate reacted I spotted the rest of them huddled

in the pub door next to the train station..Mermaid ?

All tooled up and ready to do a lot of damage if we had approached

    their lure.

Said to mhate just keep walking.

    Why ?

    Just walk.

Often wonder if any other poor Celts got assaulted by those despicable

    cowards that day ?

    AT,

Gp-The greater good as you well know is to get rid of this inept, immoral and pathetic Tory government

At- Gp you were writing last week bout how among you and your colleagues in the pub that the general consensus wi your pals was it was a good budget.in exchange with you I disagreed with the budget,so now today you want rid of the tories whose budget you think is good?

And your party does suffer from amnesia, this comes in as many guises as the marketing/policy unit

Gp-It is now a clear choice. Support Labour and get rid of this mob or support others and retain the Tories.

At I don’t vote for Lab or Cons, never have, never will ,voted lib democracy once in Nicholas soames seat in sussex(still guilty).

Do you think your party will add to its one seat in Scotland?

As I said to Ernie and yourself last week

    No Scotland no power

And I know it’s an exciting conference and feeling is good

Gp-The choice is yours, what will you do ?

At-I won’t be voting for Labour or Cons.

I will be voting as I always do,what is best for me and for the decisions made in my locality.Thats why the amnesia and one sided memory of murdochs murderer does not sit at all.

At this point in time a national coalition govt a la war footing is needed if politicians were serious as imo the war on the weakest and poorest is just getting started.

  24. Read a article about Shawfield Greyhound Track being put up for sale ,I think that would be a good investment for Celtic, as for Barrowfield I seem to remember that Celtic don’t actually own it,they lease it from the Council ,surely they should be looking to takeover Shawfield and make it there own training Centre

  25. AT,

To my dismay, the general consensus in the pub by mainly Aberdonians was that it was a good budget.

That’s when I stated I had little in common with them and more in common with the people of Liverpool.

Of course you know this, or I sincerely hope you do.

A major survey used to gauge the attitudes of people across the UK’

    #####

Am I right in thinking that that survey (it wasn’t a poll) had a return rate of 13%?

In other words only 13 in every hundred of those invited to take part could be bothered to do so.

Would it be unreasonable to consider that those with a bee in their bonnet about the subject being surveyed might be more likely to respond?

I appreciate that you might not be able to throw any light on this as your only involvement with the survey was reading an article in the Belfast Telegraph, but others might have more info.
