‘GIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD TO CELTIC,’ RODGERS

1

BRENDAN RODGERS reckons he has the solution to the Player of the Year problem – give the award to the entire Celtic TEAM!

PFA Scotland voting forms have been issued to players ahead of the annual awards ceremony and the Hoops boss expects his men to dominate the nominations.

The likes of skipper Scott Brown, midfielder Stuart Armstrong and prolific goalscorers Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele could make it a clean sweep on the four-man shortlist after the unbeaten Parkhead outfit wrapped up their sixth successive Premiership title on April 2.

Rodgers said: “For me, it’s the team. They have been collectively brilliant, right the way through.

“And there’s so many of them. You could go through the whole squad, players who have performed consistently at a really high level in big games.”

Rodgers insisted it would be very unfair to pick out individuals from his own team, but did mention some Aberdeen players.

He said: “Niall McGinn and Kenny McLean have been very, very good and Aberdeen rightly are in second place and have consistently been very good.

“They have had some excellent performers in their team, but, of course, I look at my own and I don’t think I would swap any of them for anyone.”

Rodgers will have a vote in the managerial category and he highlighted the work of Derek McInnes, Alan Archibald and Tommy Wright.

The Irishman added: “There have been a lot of the guys up here who I’ve been very impressed with.

“It’s been great for me to meet a lot of people I haven’t known. I only really knew Derek when I came up here.

“He has done an outstanding job with Aberdeen, how he has consistently got the players performing the level that they play at. He has been very, very good.

“There are other managers in there, Alan at Partick Thistle. I said early on, when they were bottom of the table, that I was really impressed with their work and it’s nice to see how they have grown and developed over the course of the season.

“I’m an admirer of Tommy at St Johnstone, he always does a great job.”

It’s arrived! In the Heat of Lisbon arrived back from the printers yesterday afternoon and the Jock Stein t-shirts are coming today.

Orders will all go out at the beginning of next week.

There’s still time to get the book and t-shirt together for £19.67 for the pair. From Tuesday next week both will be sold individually at £14.99 each. Profits to thank the Lions – order from www.cqnbookstore.com
