Giving players an excuse to fail

223

Hamilton Accies suffered a seven goal defeat last time out against Celtic, so tonight should be straightforward, right? You’ll not need me to remind you we beat St Mirren by seven goals only to go out of the Scottish Cup to them a week later.

Accies have kept three clean sheets in the four games since their Celtic Park nadir; whatever defensive problems we exposed, they were quickly resolved.

One thing I dislike from my manager or players is complaining about conditions before a game. No matter what Ronny Delia thinks of artificial surfaces, I was delighted when he took the issue off the table in his pre-match press conference.

In short, he told his players, the surfaces are fine, get on with it and win the game. Moaning about the surface (or size of the pitch) before a game gives players an excuse to fail, and in my experience, they often take it. If you complain about a narrow pitch, you’re likely to drop points to plumbers and roofers.

Three points please, Celtic.

Ronny really puzzles me … after kc outburst and poor form / injuries this season … he brings him straight back in while dropping ever present Stuart. ..

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Just looking at the teams left in the Europa League it’s annoys me a little that Celtic have actually beaten quite a lot of them with the possible exception of Spurs and the Spanish sides and there is no reason why Celtic should not be there also. Great weekend of sport to look forward starting with the game to-night.

  15. Scott Allan looks as if he’s not AFRAID to make a tackle.

That is an improvement on the fairies that have been left out.

    No offence to fairies meant.

    If taken.

  16. Going round to my Bhoys flat to be entertained by The Champions of Scotland. Had hoped to issue details of who’s picked whom in the ole LMS7 but still waiting on (just) 1 pick coming in.

Enjoy the game. Don’t think there’ll be too many goals but a 9-point gap at the top would do just nicely.

    Be nice.

  17. Captain Beefheart on

Not an inspiring side. Can’t be bothered watching that squad. Sadly, I won’t be the only one doing something else. Richards? Why bother?

Major work needed in the summer.

  18. I’m a wee bit concerned about the 3 midfielders.

They could easily be pushed around tonight.

I’d rather RC was played instead of GMS.

And that’s not a religious statement.

  19. Good to see Bailly on the Team Sheet tonight; He must be really in impressing in training if he can displace Gordon from the first 11 – especially after the game he had against Inverness.

Would also liked to have seen on or other of Roberts or Christie but still happy enough with line up.

Also happy to see Kommons (See what i done there) back. Hopefully he shows a hunger & desire to fight for his place in the team.

    Mon The Hoops!

  20. Winning Captains,

If Big Tam has a reasonably new telly and laptop, then an HDMI cable to connect them will be the simplest solution. Plug and play, almost – once you’ve selected the correct ‘input’ on the television menu. Check the size of the ‘hole’ on the laptop for the HDMI output though – should be the same size as the one on the telly, but some laptops use mini HDMI connection, so you might need a cable with two different sized male HDMI connectors. Hope I haven’t confused things now.
