Gladbach season hits crunch week

364

Borussia Monchengladbach slipped to exactly mid-table in the Bundesliga on Saturday after giving 10-man Hamburg their second point of the season. On Wednesday we are still going to face a team vastly superior to anyone we will face in domestic football this season, but the visitors will not be as confident travelling to Glasgow as they were when the draw was made back in August.

Like Celtic, Borussia would not have fancied their chances of progressing to the knock out stage after their opening group game, but they now have to concern themselves more with becoming competitive against in Germany. That prospect isn’t about to get any easier, as after Celtic on Wednesday they travel to face Bayern Munich on Saturday.

All of this will feed into how Borussia approach the game. A point would allow them to take their head-to-head competition with Celtic back to Germany with hopes of finishing at least in the Europa League spot.

Celtic were not at their most fluid against Motherwell on Saturday (a significant sign when a 2-0 win can be described in that manner), but Brendan Rodgers will be clear in his game plan for Wednesday – press high, as we did against Manchester City last month.

It’s going to be a night which will require every ounce of strength from a packed Celtic Park. I’ve spoken to several Celtic managers and players about the impact the crowd can have in European nights. If we’re up for it, this one is there for us.

There’s a Family Fanzone at George Square from 13:00 on Wednesday afternoon.  Players will appear at 14:00 with club legends there at 16:00 and activities throughout the afternoon.  With the October break it’s an excellent opportunity to get into town and get into the mood early.

  1. I don’t believe the latest ‘Peckham Spring’ scandal whirlpooling around the drowning zombies but the roof story is a David Brent FACT and the DoomDome will become the MurderDome if their scurrilous regime don’t address the problem immediately.

Sometimes in life, which normally consists of work, sleep, play, you get the occasional wee Brucie Bonus which just lightens up your day.

    I got that this morning.

Doing nighshifts I’m an early drinker-if I wasn’t doing them, who knows?-and there was an oul’ Limerick fella,in his 70s,Pat,who would regularly join us for a blether.

    Regular? Almost daily!

Thing was, when we didn’t see him for a few days we got concerned. No matter what,he rightly refused to let any of us know where he lived. We just wanted to knock on his door to check that he was fine,he demanded his privacy.

Around Christmas he disappeared. Rumours about a fall,at his age broken bones can be a problem, attempts to trace him failed-nobody had thought to ask him his surname in the five years we knew him!

There I was minding my own business earlier quaffing my Guinness when Banquo’s Ghost tapped me on the shoulder.

    Jee-zoh. Talk about delighted!

First thing he did-after explaining his absence, broken hip and wrist, was give me his address.

“It happened in the street,if it had happened in my house I’d still be there”

Second thing was ask if I can take him shopping tomorrow!

Welcome back,Pat. Though you scared the life out me!

The sheer drama at the manner of getting through against Vojvodina with Charlie Gallaghers inch perfect corner and Big Billy’s header with only 47 seconds left to play, was for an eleven year old kid ( and everyone else inside Celtic Park that night), sheer unadulterated extasy !

My DA picked me up from school in his taxi, and took me to his house in Scotstoun for my dinner. I couldn’t eat anything, and my wicked stepmother was raging !

A fantastically haunting rendition of the song accompanied with some surreal yet lifelike graphics. A great listen and watch.

  11. Somebody posted this peculiar link on Etims

    http://www.businesscostconsultants.co.uk/clients/case-studies/rangers-football-club/

Investigation of water issues at Ibrox Stadium leads to dramatic savings

    Client:

Founded more than a century ago, Rangers FC is a Scottish football club. The club plays home games at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. (Citation needed)

    Situation:

Shortly after Business Cost Consultants were engaged as the utility consultants for one of Scotland’s leading football clubs, Rangers FC mentioned that they were having issues with water pressure and flow on match days.

    Solution:

Business Cost Consultants sent in an outsourced water specialist to investigate the water systems and identify the source of the problems. As well as working closely with the on-site facilities team, BCC’s experts installed data loggers on to the water meters to monitor the consumption and flow on a 24/7 basis. The detailed survey and the information from the loggers helped the team identify several issues, which were quickly resolved.

As a result of the data logging, BCC identified that the consumption was higher than expected and there were some inefficiencies in how the water was being used. The client was presented with a full report, detailing the findings and recommendations. The high quality information in the report assisted the Facilities Manager to make better informed decisions.

    Result:

As a result of the advice from BCC’s water specialists, the water consumption at Ibrox stadium was reduced by more than 65% and water pressure problems were eliminated. Rangers Football Club will continue to benefit from the financial savings (over £100,000 per annum), as a result of reduced water consumption and waste water charges, long into the future. BCC believe that further water savings are possible and will be working closely with Rangers FC on a rainwater harvesting project.

Business Cost Consultants will also be focusing on reducing the inefficiencies in energy consumption at Rangers Football Club.

“By accurately monitoring our usages Business Cost Consultants were able to recommend quantifiable cost savings with respect to all utilities with the largest saving to date, centering around our water costs. Due to match day demands we traditionally suffered from water shortages through the course of an event. With the help of Business Cost Consultants this is no longer an issue and perhaps more importantly the ongoing yearly savings associated with these works far outweigh all capital expenditure.”

  12. There was a reasonable rendition of `Grace` at Celtic Park on Saturday. For me , it was a lovely , haunting tune but not a football song. Saturday`s effort has made me think I might be wrong but it needs the participation of both ends of the ground to make it work.

  13. Calling all gamblers! I’m organising a Race Night as a Fund Raiser for St Mary’s in The Calton (so Fr Tom informed me last week). We’ve had a few and they are good wee nights. If anyone is interested in going, it’s on Friday 18th November. Tickets £5 each and usually involves some free grub as well – pie’n’peas, some home baking etc.

For those who cannot go but want to contribute, I will also hold Race 8 as the CQN Stakes: you can buy (and name a horse) or buy in as the Jockey; £10 a go with £50 to both the winning owner and jockey.

A few people have jumped on already so I’ve allocated a second race for even more to come on board.

He wasn’t any good as a manager either, he couldn’t win one game ! Wee fanni

His latest offering to the evening shark it just so typical of him as he wouldn’t dream of upsetting his former masters our that hun support. I swear, runts like him do ma heid in.

I have read crap from him a few weeks ago when he was asked about his ” green fingered pal” McCoist ?

Durrant stated, ” I see no reason why Ally won’t be offered another managerial job soon” !

How about this reason Durrant,? Your mate was/is a complete tosser at the managers game, just like you !

No doubt t when fergushun moves to ipox ( if they don’t get reader again), those fannis at Clyde will probably offer your mate the mangers job, and SuperAlly will then no doubt convince his new masters to employ you as his bitch….sorry assistant .

Supersallys arguments will be to the Clyde ( Ssshhh don’t mention water !) Board, ” aye you must get Durranty in here also, cos we work so well ( sshhh don’t mention water) together, just look at our track record at Newco !

Here is another way to look at things.

In a conversation I had with the SLO before the last AGM I suggested that the use of the AGM to solve issues should be an instrument of last resort if other efforts failed.

I suggested it would be much better if issues get ironed out in dialogue before they become a stick for one side to use against the other.

It is pleasing to me who was campaigning for improved communications as far back as 2011 to see that in dialogue with the SLO another mechanism which widens the audience beyond the CST (and most issues have a wider constituency) was agreed with not just the CST but other supporter groups and invited guests some of whom can reach the wider diverse support base via social media

So in addition to welcoming that new initiative on communication I welcome the CST staying in the spirit of it in their latest announcement with regard to the Living Wage and not pushing for a resolution at this AGM.

Just heard Bob Dylan sing Times They Are a Changing on BBC radio there and it is most apt in this case.

The change might take away one of your sticks to beat the CST with but surely in the wider interest of Celtic as a whole this development, which is already bearing fruit, is something more to welcome than criticise?

    DALLAS DALLAS .

The absolute shambles at Inter includes stuff like Icardi’s wife ( his agent !!! ) telling the media that Inter need to pay Mauro more . That was followed by a series of media appearances in which she announced that she would never live in Napoli ( and therefore Mauro wouldn’t be signing for Napoli ) She said the same re Manchester but is apparently willing to live in London or Paris . . Heard Zannetti on the radio news earlier stating that the Inter suits would be having a meeting to discuss Icardi.. That was followed by a radio reporter claiming there was no truth in media claims that the newly signed Joao Mario wanted out ASAP ..

  18. There has not been much `conversation` re the Borussiamonchengladbach game but the impression I have taken from the little I have read/heard is that we have a good chance of three points and a very good chance of ` at least` a draw. The Bookies make BMG strong favourites at 6/5. We are playing well and did well in the CL V ManCity but maybe we are getting a wee bit carried away expecting a victory against a good team from the Bundesliga .
