Gladbach season hits crunch week

364

Borussia Monchengladbach slipped to exactly mid-table in the Bundesliga on Saturday after giving 10-man Hamburg their second point of the season. On Wednesday we are still going to face a team vastly superior to anyone we will face in domestic football this season, but the visitors will not be as confident travelling to Glasgow as they were when the draw was made back in August.

Like Celtic, Borussia would not have fancied their chances of progressing to the knock out stage after their opening group game, but they now have to concern themselves more with becoming competitive against in Germany. That prospect isn’t about to get any easier, as after Celtic on Wednesday they travel to face Bayern Munich on Saturday.

All of this will feed into how Borussia approach the game. A point would allow them to take their head-to-head competition with Celtic back to Germany with hopes of finishing at least in the Europa League spot.

Celtic were not at their most fluid against Motherwell on Saturday (a significant sign when a 2-0 win can be described in that manner), but Brendan Rodgers will be clear in his game plan for Wednesday – press high, as we did against Manchester City last month.

It’s going to be a night which will require every ounce of strength from a packed Celtic Park. I’ve spoken to several Celtic managers and players about the impact the crowd can have in European nights. If we’re up for it, this one is there for us.

There’s a Family Fanzone at George Square from 13:00 on Wednesday afternoon.  Players will appear at 14:00 with club legends there at 16:00 and activities throughout the afternoon.  With the October break it’s an excellent opportunity to get into town and get into the mood early.

  1. Just for the record The Celtic Trust have never, ever claimed to speak for anyone else apart the membership.

Anyway, time for a wee dip in the pool.

  2. Grace sung at Celtic park?

In the proper tempo they might pull it off, although I doubt it, they seem to much in a hurry to finish it before they start it, kinda like when they sing The Fields, some songs they should just stay away from, other songs, I just can’t get enough .

When in excess of 10,000 sign up to that petition it gives you a mandate to speak for those signatories.

    That’s how a petition works!

Ernie, fascinating wee clip. I think that SAF was given short shrift at Ibrox when he married a Catholic. That’s why he wouldnae touch them wi a bargepole. He knows from first hand experience what their bigotry was (is) like!

*not only was sir furious’s wife a ben affleck but so was his mother and it was her choice tae bring her boys up in the ken dodd faith, seemingly his da was neither up nor down, as she reckoned they would have a better chance of prospering living in Glasgow at that time.

I was once told by an ex-Celt of awex introducing him to his cousin who was over visiting Old Trafford from Ireland; his name was something like “Paddy McGinty”.

Both his da and uncle were Celtic supporters and I believe his brother Martin was as well.

There is a distinct possibility that his paternal great grandparents’ moved tae the Renton fae Ireland as a result of the potato crop failure, possibly around the time as David Kelly father of our first captain, “why don’t you go home” seems to be aimed at his DNA, on both sides of the family tae, and I couldnae see him giving the “cadbury’s smash” laldy either.

His grampa was born in the Renton and married a daughter of the manse fae Dumbarton and his da, who was born in 1912, was born in the holy village as well, his grampa was invalided during WWI and was convalescing at in Bellahouston when the granny, in an effort tae be closer tae him, decided to relocate to the Govan area.

Although his family were employed in the shipyards for a couple of generations it should be noted they were only plater’s helpers, no one of the craft related jobs for them.

I’m no a fan of whisky nose as I believe him to be a bully, as it seems was Jock and wee mclean at tannadice, however, I also believe him tae be a bluenose and no a hun.

  7. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

South of Tunis, sorry for the late reply.

The Icardi’s sound as though they have had a bypass in terms of sense, humility and intelligence.

I just saw the goals from Serie A at the weekend on BT sport.

Icardi missing a penalty and the two Cagliari goals were shockers to lose.

Icardi will never be a club legend like his compatriot, Javier Zanetti.

The BT programme also quoted Zanetti saying Icardi’s recent comments were totally unacceptable. The Serie A guy on the show said Icardi may lose the captaincy.

  8. I know that I would rather have the Celtic Trust in place than not !

Whilst our current board can and will probably make mistakes allied with some decisions that don’t please everyone all of the time, I for one remember all too well how past Celtic boards treating we Celtic fans with almost complete disdain more often than not, especially in my early days of watching the Hoops , in my late teenage years and beyond.

If I remember correctly back in the 197O’s the Celtic View had a story about a new pie/Bovril stall opening in the Celtic end………….on the F##king front page !

Also described was the new paint job of the terracing barriers !

I would say that especially since the time of Fergus, relations between the club and the fans have never been better, although there is no room for any complancey from either party and there’s ALWAYS room for improvement, and that goes with the playing side of things also !

I always said that ” communication” is a wonderful thing , as where would the human race be without it ?

I am perfectly content with some people who are more clued up on how to run Celtic on and off the field being allowed to get on with it. As I said, there will always be certain disagreement , but we wouldn’t be Celtic supporters without a wee moan and groan now and again ?

Very interesting. I knew he wisnae one of us but I always knew he wisnae one of them.

He would have been an obvious choice of manager on many occasions but they must’ve known he wouldn’t go!

  10. Opinions are just that, and mine is that “Grace” can’t hold a candle to “Fields” which has a much more stirring chorus that lends itself to being belted out.

  11. ……there are many, many fine things about this Dear Green Place…

….in no way exhaustive and in no particular order….SoT for his sun-drenched saunters around all things Celtica and Musica

….BSR for perfectly pitched match-day summaries and (Big Red-Heidit mammaries!), Melbourne Mick and his antipodean memories, Tontine Tim for his rhymin’ slang and historical testimonies………..

  12. Breaking; Puma are being sued by an unnamed Scottish Church, who are claiming to be the only organisation that should supply Rangers taps.

  13. Talking about moans & groans, some on here may have read my posts after the man city game in relation to my bets ?

    I had KT to score at any time @ 28/1 ( I think ?)

I had KT to score at any time and a 3-3 correct score ( anytime / scorecast), only for KTs effort to be taken from him, and deemed an own goal ?

I did speak to bet365 about that scenario as I was concerned about inconsistences within the football and getting industry, and put my case that since NOONE could prove 100% that KT effort may not have ” swerved” etc at the last moment and found the far corner of the goal, and KT being the player who directed the ball towards goal, then he should have been given the benefit of doubt ?

I also suggested to bet365 that given the decision to take the ” goal” from KT, dies that mean that whenever a player directs a shot/header towards the goal, if it hits the goalies foot on the way, then it’s an own goal ?

If a goal gets fingertips to a shot/header, but the ball still ends up in the net, is that then deemed an own goal ? Of course not .

Over the years, I’ve saw numerous goalies diving and getting fingertips/palms to balls that were quite possibly NOT on target and when that happens, and the ball ends up in the net it is not always deemed an own goal .

Since the man city game I have watched at least 3 English games ( including Bournemouth and Ater Boruc last weekend), whereby a player has attempted to put a shot goalwards, only for the ball to come of a defender and with Artur having the shot covered, the route if the ball completely changed and left Boruc completely flat-footed and decieved as it went past him into his net.

An OWN GOAL c!early, but hours later the original player who hit the shot was credited with the goal, his name is Mason of Hull City in the 34th minute of the game !

I’ve also che ked the press this morning and he is still credited with the goal !

    It’s an injustice !

There you are Bhoys, I’ve just had my we’d moan for today…I was robbed !

  14. What a fabulous time to be a Celtic fan.

Brendan has us playing great football, the swagger is back, we have our own home grown hero in K.T and let’s not forget J.F. who came through the ranks too and is now showing everyone that he has the ability, that the majority of us thought he had.

Celtic Park will be rocking on Wed, Celtic PLC and the trust holding each other’s hands. H.T. in the posh seats, how long before he moves to the board of directors. :-))) What’s not to like?

    Hail Hail.

  15. So WGS has suggested that The Griff is too small and that’s why he disny get a game, Dearie Me, thankfully Messi Xavia, Innesta to name a few arny scottish else they would be on the bench keeping The Griff company.

The mind boggles as to why Bannan gets a game tho, must be something else cos he is small as well as pish.

  16. Borrusia Munchengladbach. Who?

Let’s not afford them more respect than they merit – a mid-range Bundesliga side who excelled last season.

They’re typically competent, efficient and dangerous when allowed to play. But nowhere near the level of Man City or Barca.

They should be more worried about Celtic than us about them; they crumbled at the Etihad Mausoleum (Shhhhh) and got a justified pumping. If they go behind at Parkheid theywon’t believe the wall of sound that will engulf them; bottles will crash – this is not an experienced European side.

We have a very good chance of blowing them away; nothing will surprise us and we have notihng to lose.

A fearless, aggressive Celtic playing at high tempo with the tsunami of noise behind us are to be reckoned with.

Their nerve will be severely tested.

I fancy us to will well, by a couple.

  17. Tim Malone Will Tell on

If Sevco are ‘demoted’ again – will it be to 20,000 leagues under the sea?

    Hope so….

  18. SANDMAN

Good positive post there, and i hope your right.

I watch all/most of the Bundesliga over here as we’re “EPL FREE” here.

Borrusia Munchengladbach are a very good side, and they’ll show good touches of football at CP, i would say this is a bigger game than the Manchester shitty one was.

  20. Advice needed please.

    Worst holiday ever.

Turn up at Edinburgh Airport this morning. Flight to Ercan via Istanbul only to find not booked on connecting flight. Travel company made an error.

Upshot is – Travel company ask me to fly to Istanbul, wait 7 hours there, then get a later connection.

I refuse, saying they are in breach of contract, get me on my original flight, ( which has seats available).

    Return home.

I have all the paperwork regarding the original contract.

Travel company claim, they offered an alternative. They didn’t, they merely maintained their mistake IMO. Refuse to refund my money as I “decided not to go”.

    Any advice?

Plus point is I get to go to the Borussia MG game.

Though I don’t believe that will float with MrsEC67′ boat.

  21. Paul67/Winning Captains: I keep getting this message when I scroll the page on my iPad;

A problem occurred with this web page, so it was reloaded.

My PC in work freezes regularly when I surreptitiously attempt to lurk.

If you can do anything about this – many posters seem to have similar problems – and the fans’ café beside the superstore (and the shop in Melbourne) I would appreciate it.
