Gladbach season hits crunch week

364

Borussia Monchengladbach slipped to exactly mid-table in the Bundesliga on Saturday after giving 10-man Hamburg their second point of the season. On Wednesday we are still going to face a team vastly superior to anyone we will face in domestic football this season, but the visitors will not be as confident travelling to Glasgow as they were when the draw was made back in August.

Like Celtic, Borussia would not have fancied their chances of progressing to the knock out stage after their opening group game, but they now have to concern themselves more with becoming competitive against in Germany. That prospect isn’t about to get any easier, as after Celtic on Wednesday they travel to face Bayern Munich on Saturday.

All of this will feed into how Borussia approach the game. A point would allow them to take their head-to-head competition with Celtic back to Germany with hopes of finishing at least in the Europa League spot.

Celtic were not at their most fluid against Motherwell on Saturday (a significant sign when a 2-0 win can be described in that manner), but Brendan Rodgers will be clear in his game plan for Wednesday – press high, as we did against Manchester City last month.

It’s going to be a night which will require every ounce of strength from a packed Celtic Park. I’ve spoken to several Celtic managers and players about the impact the crowd can have in European nights. If we’re up for it, this one is there for us.

There’s a Family Fanzone at George Square from 13:00 on Wednesday afternoon.  Players will appear at 14:00 with club legends there at 16:00 and activities throughout the afternoon.  With the October break it’s an excellent opportunity to get into town and get into the mood early.

On reading back I see you said SLO not CEO and yes the SLO introduction has been a good thing.

My point about one to ones with CEO which was the arrangement still applies in terms of its deficiencies.

    Must clean my glasses.

  2. For a bit of interest I put a wee 10er on over 2.5 goals..There hasn’t even been 2.5 attempts on target..What a mince game of football.

  3. Being an afficionada of Scandi-noir, I was able to tell everyone in Sharkeys exactly what Jamie Carragher was saying.

Haven’t seen any contributions from El Diego Bhoy for some weeks. Just wondering if any CQN’er is in touch with him and if he is OK.

  10. What is the stars,

I would say it is Timgreen who is trying to pick a fight.

    I thought it was funny.

I told it to my wife and she slapped me but am still laughing.

  11. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

I for one would like to congratulate the CST for their sterling work in bringing the living wage closer to reality, they deserve a pat on the back for helping to improve the lives of those less well off employees at Celtic park.

I’d also like to commend their latest initiative on supporter liaison and am glad the board also support this initiative it appears res12 if nothing else opened the doors for resolutions from the floor to be considered with a bit more though from the board instead of dismissing them as interfering in the boards business. Looks like the board are changing their attitude towards stakeholder management :)

I suppose if I was to write sycophantic correspondence to the SLO or the CEO I expect any sort of reply would induce knicker wetting, innit, I don’t need anyone to speak for me but I’m not stupid enough to think I’d be less likely to be dismissed than a group lobbying for a cause I thought important.

    Just my opinion

I wouldn’t take sides. I can see how comments like that can be funny but also how they can be taken as being misogynist.

Anyway must be a very boring game on TV if we are arguing about whether a joke is funny or offensive to women.

Now take my mother in law! !!

  13. Thank goodness that crap is finished … so called best league in the world … what a joke !!!

  14. Nae goals. Nae fitba. Nae effort from big named highly expensive stars.

Poor game lacking excitement and marked by mediocrity.

Bring on real heart throbbing non stop football on Wednesday.

  15. On the problems folk are experiencing accessing CQN, I compiled as full a list of complaints and problems that I could pull together and presented these to the ad agency this morning.

They are very aware of our unhappiness.

CQN is the biggest Celtic site available to advertisers and has the most attractive demographic too.

The site has more than trebled in size of audience over the past 18 months as we have introduced news features etc with around 6 posts on average every day.

Over the last few weeks demand for ad space has increased substantially and the agency have been trying to accommodate too many it seems.

Spam/ rogue ads also appear which have nothing to do with the agency bookings. The stuff that directs you to I-store or Tesco vouchers etc.

These seem to get on by some dodgy co booking what looks like legit space then infesting that with spam stuff.

It is a real hassle clearing that out.

I am usually on the agency’s case on a regular basis on these matters but haven’t had time over past few months.

Anyway on it now and you will see a difference in the next few days.

If anyone wants to point anything in particular out re these problems please email me – david@cqnpublishing.co.uk

Finally it would help me to know if you have similar (or less / more)problems accessing video Celts or The Celtic Blog sites.

  16. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I was e tims twitter there.

A tweet by Lisbon Lion has a link with a newspaper article about Gordon Dalziel getting the all clear from Rangers (IL) to marry his then fiance, Theresa Mccluskey.

Further down the tweet conversation, Lisbon Lion posts another link. It’s an interview with a Wullie Johnstone in the Birmingham Mail.

When Johnstone rejoined Rangers (IL), he recommended they sign Cyrille Regis from West Bromwich. One of the things Greig asked was is Regis a Catholic.

Johnstone replied he didn’t know. However, he never heard anything further if a move was made for Cyrille.

  17. What is the stars,

I hear what you’re saying..but cmon..if you were having a couple o pints in the boozer and one o the bhoys told that joke..would you react in the way Timgreen has?

  18. Tonight’s game is further evidence why the viewing figures are 20% down on last season in the self proclaimed greatest league in the world..Their two biggest teams, their equivelant of an El Classico, utter dross.

Whoever is in charge of marketing at EPL should get an award for hyping that p!sh to where it is today. Watched the game in a couple of bars in Bratislava, both busy, both with locals in Man U/Liverpool tops and scarves, all pubs in the old town advertising the game being shown. EPL Head of Marketing, a genius.

I experience page reloading and freezing on iPad with CQN videocelts and the Celtic Blog’s web pages. Videocelts is the worst.

I seem to avoid pop up ads on the whole, although they do encroach occasionally.

I tried CQN on my wife’s Kindle last night and that was completely unusable.

All above intended as helpful feedback, I am not moaning.

  23. BIG JIMMY, TIM GREEN I told the joke to my wife to see if she found it offensive. She said “What’s a cooker?”

As far as she is concerned the kitchen is somewhere I go for a while and bring out something really nice (apart from my good self of course).
