Glasgow arms race failure, thanking Sir David

1245

KR Reykjavík recorded a 0-2 win in the Icelandic Cup on Sunday and have one more league game, against bottom club Thor on Thursday, before facing Celtic on Champions League duty a week today.

Celtic have a game this evening against LSK Linz before facing a famous name from our past, Dukla Prague, on Friday.  While the world will be coming through a World Cup climb down Celtic will be facing a committed team in the mid-Atlantic.  There is no room for complacency.

Next week’s qualifier has all the potential to cause a fright.  Ronny Deila will by now know all about Gordon Strachan’s competitive start at Celtic, which cast a shadow he never completely shook off, so it is absolutely critical the manager gets us playing the way he wants us tonight.

Ross McCormack’s route from Murray Park reject at 19 eight years ago to a player Fulham have just bid £11m for is worthy of consideration.  It’s easy for us to point to how Rangers ruined young talented footballers but the stark truth is that for well over a decade Celtic had vastly better youth talent that Rangers but failed to graduate anything like as many as we should have.

McCormack had to go to Motherwell, a club well experienced at nurturing talent, to build his career, but he would have fared no better at Celtic.  Having no space for youth is one of the many unhealthy consequences of having two massive clubs engaged in a football arms race.  Our game was destined to destroy talent.

Fortunately, the man who loaned his name to Murray Park ensured that arms race would end in spectacular fashion, when he sold his club’s assets and liabilities to a liquidation specialist for £1.  In a perverse sort of way, Scottish football should thank him.

Thank you to everyone who supported CQN’s efforts for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookie Jar Foundation, especially the reader who paid an incredible £530 for the signed European Cup canvas.  You are all a credit to our club.

Best wishes to Argentina tomorrow, I hope the overcome Netherlands for the memory of the first worldwide football hero they gave the game, Alfredo Di Stefano.

Great to see the poor people of Brazil finally get an opportunity to demand a fairer share of their countries oil wealth, let the fruits of the nation be felt by all the nation.

Also great to see a scintillating German performance. Wonder what Germany have to do to get credit on not just the BBC but any would be SBC. Anti-germanic tendencies and pro Brazilian feelings seems endemic throughout the whole of the UK. A bit rediculous really when u consider that admiring Brazil is very much outdated based on the hack and slash style they now employ and the lack of pass and move. The germans the best the media can say of them is they are efficient, which is total bs as in fact they are a great pass and move team but guess sterotypes in some areas are totally allowed whilst on certain other areas they are Orweillian banned even if a stereotype could be useful (such as hoodies being more of a threat than “hipsters” to a persons personal safety).

Saw disgusting anti catholic comments from Billy Boy 05 earlier today when he mentioned child abusing priests… Funny how he doesn’t mention child abusing scout leaders, teachers at non dom schools or more frequently “celebrities”, in fact per head celebrities have far more abusers in their ranks than the total per head ratio of perv priests, scout leaders and non dom teachers put together, if we restrict our definition of “celebs” to folk “highly famous near universally in the uk”. Point is by only highlighting a tiny minority of abusers he is allowing, neigh facilitating other abusers to go unchallenged and he is allowing that because it allows him to justify -in his own mind- his hatred of Catholics.

Abuse is not a theological issue but is in fact something that comes with too much power and sometimes people will be drawn to certain careers because they where already intending bad things and said position of authority as scout leader, priest or “celebrity” just gives them the power and access to commit heinous crimes. Also the laughable comparisons of the forced invasion of Ireland with the peaceful union between Scotland and England is just beyond absurdity, where in one case guns where used to prevent cessation and in the other ballot boxes are the tool of debate to continue or spilt up a union.

I’d say its on a par to those horrible people who compare and falsely morally equivalize the lynching and segregation black people faced by white people in the deep south to the quest to force churches to “marry” gay people not just on their premises done by a secular official of the state, separate from the regular meeting of the congregation, but done in a “religious” ceremony against the adherents beliefs be they Presbyterian, catholic, evangelic, Muslim or Hasidic, who then call such fascism “freedom”.

If you have to deprive freedom from one person to give it to another then what u have is not really freedom and it sure as hell isn’t live and let live. If more people operated on the premise “id rather not be a member of a club that refused to have me as a member” rather than “force those people who don’t regonize/agree with my positions on everything to celebrate my positions” we’d be a lot closer to individualistic egalitarian based collectivism.
