Gloriously difficult sincerity

Ruud Gullit is now telling us what a wonder-kid Karamoko Dembele is! The portents on this one are not good. The best thing for Karamoko right now would be to be left alone to develop his talent for three years. Comments from international stars is the last thing the boy needs.

I suspect the unprecedented frenzy which greeted his substitute appearance at Cappielow caught his mentors off guard. The decision to play him was made on football grounds; he’d earned the right to be there so was given the chance. That’s fair enough, you can’t hold a player back, no matter what his age. If he’s not challenged you right inhibiting his development, but the best thing for Karamoko would be a long stretch of anonymity.

I can’t get overexcited at Joey Barton charged with betting on 44 football games against SFA rules during his first few months in Scotland. While the same rule applies in England, Newco don’t play in England, so offenses there have been less prevalent, and therefore the rule is less prominent. A cursory punishment would be appropriate.

The media coverage of Barton this morning gives a fascinating slant on what is already a hoary old story. Joey, we are told, may be able to work his way back into his manger’s plans if he is sufficiently sincere when they meet early next week. Joey, of course, is always sincere.

You’ll seldom encounter people with the most alarming thought processes and in any way doubt their sincerity.

If anything, Joey’s persona could do with a little less frankness. Not for the first time, the Newco management will be measuring the wrong metric when trying to assess Barton.

They’re stuck with him, in all his gloriously difficult sincerity.

Just talking about the time Donald Trump did the draw for the Rumbelows Cup

    BSR … happy bday.

Tontine@7:19 … a well written post. Even after 10 or so years on here, I am still amazed at the collective knowledge of Celtic and other matters on CQN … I always learn something

  3. 7 in, and Diego Dastardly is off and running.

Strokes Bonucci gently down the face, and down he goes like he’s been hit by Tyson with a horseshoe in his glove.

Referee’s disdain deemed to be punishment enough.

I don’t get it. How does reporting that the offender once played a game against Celtic reflect badly on Celtic, and why on earth would you want Peter Lawwell to react to such a story?

Are articles being written and posted on CQN by anonymous writers?

I’ve just read an article about our great team going unbeaten this season.

I found the article to be rather obnoxious, with a tone of entitlement that I’d normally associate with supporters of a certain dead club.

The writer also has the arrogance to assume he speaks for ALL Celtic supporters – when he writes about being certain that we will all be behind Strachan’s Scotland side for the upcoming double header.

Whilst I certainly WILL be cheering on Scotland, I know many fellow Tims that couldn’t give a monkeys – either because they support another international side, or they support no country at all in international football.

Again, it was the tone of feeling entitled to speak for ALL of us that was distasteful.

    Poor article, IMO.

Disappointed if it was written by you Paul.

More disappointing if it was written by someone who feels they can write anonymously instead of putting their their name to it.

Many thanks for all your contributions on here. They are a joy to read.

I remember Iain McDonald. I thought he looked like he would be a fantastic player!

Waddell definitely ruined the boys career, but that was standard in those days.

Remember McGraw from Moron? On crutches for life because of all the steroid injections he was given to make him play.

Thankfully we have better doctors now!

I dont reckon it needs a comment from Celtic on the matter though… It’s the smsm at their usual.

  15. Well… good on you guys North of the Border.

The biggest thing that – The Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland – has to worry about it talented young footballers been exploited by Football Clubs.

Now I’m not for one minute suggesting that Scottish Football Clubs should not take a caring and responsible approach when taking on and developing young Footballers… far from it.

Obviously I’m not suggesting that it is right or proper that Bookmakers take bets on the development of these young boys.

But seriously this is a huge issue facing Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People.

He has to go out to the media to highlight and get support to solve this… a phone call/e-mail to Ladbrokes wouldn’t do it?

Well if Scottish Football’s exploitation of kids is a huge, huge worry… then Scotland’s kids can’t be doing too bad.

In fact I would imagine the Commisioner has a lot of spare time on his hands…

Maybe the Scottish Government could suggest to the Commisioner makes use of this time.

Maybe he could pop over to India and help his counter-part over there out… it looks like (s)he needs all the help they can get…

  16. I am watching the Croatian game in a local bar.

The whole town is in uproar. Protests on the street. Booing the national anthem and every time a Croatian player touches the ball. Missiles being fired if Croat misplaces a pass or loses a tackle. Even the women from the haberdashery shop have made protest banners.

    The reason?

Niko has not been selected to play.

VFR … Torontony has been trying to get me to cross my own picket line, by saying that if I come up and watch the games at the Celtic club with him, he will buy me all the square sausages on well fired rolls I can eat (he plays dirty … cos I LOVE square sausage on a well fired roll with a bit of brown sauce!)…

so here is my proposal …. If I come over there for the summit, you supply all the square sausage I can eat … and if we hold it here, I will ply you with all the beer you can drink!

Either way, even if we dont end up agreeing, we will at least have a good time!

Yes, it will keep her involved. She has had me nursing her old piece of garbage for about 18 months now; the MacBook will be a new lease of life for her and she will enjoy using it.
