Gloriously difficult sincerity

Ruud Gullit is now telling us what a wonder-kid Karamoko Dembele is! The portents on this one are not good. The best thing for Karamoko right now would be to be left alone to develop his talent for three years. Comments from international stars is the last thing the boy needs.

I suspect the unprecedented frenzy which greeted his substitute appearance at Cappielow caught his mentors off guard. The decision to play him was made on football grounds; he’d earned the right to be there so was given the chance. That’s fair enough, you can’t hold a player back, no matter what his age. If he’s not challenged you right inhibiting his development, but the best thing for Karamoko would be a long stretch of anonymity.

I can’t get overexcited at Joey Barton charged with betting on 44 football games against SFA rules during his first few months in Scotland. While the same rule applies in England, Newco don’t play in England, so offenses there have been less prevalent, and therefore the rule is less prominent. A cursory punishment would be appropriate.

The media coverage of Barton this morning gives a fascinating slant on what is already a hoary old story. Joey, we are told, may be able to work his way back into his manger’s plans if he is sufficiently sincere when they meet early next week. Joey, of course, is always sincere.

You’ll seldom encounter people with the most alarming thought processes and in any way doubt their sincerity.

If anything, Joey’s persona could do with a little less frankness. Not for the first time, the Newco management will be measuring the wrong metric when trying to assess Barton.

They’re stuck with him, in all his gloriously difficult sincerity.

Wonder what the Bhoys over in Italy think. HH

  5. MACJAY, I concur. With Rodgers in place and some sterling young talent at the club (KT, Dembele and Roberts) we are in a strong position.

The lure and lucre from the CL can only strengthen our hand, so we should play it. I definitely think things are on the up and we will continue to be an attractive proposition for younger players looking to break through!

    Anyway, goodnight Timland. Till tomorrow.

That may have been the case in the last five seasons, but now?

£30m income for a season should we qualify for CL Group stages. That’s about the going rate for one midfielder with one and a half seasons experience under his belt in the EPL these days.

All twenty English Premier League teams have transfer budgets that dwarf even regular CL group stage participants. All of the best young players will, via their agents, gravitate towards England.

I think we can, at this moment in time, only thrive if we show ourselves to be a stepping stone to the EPL……

    The Sopranos is real life.

Have you never visited Cranhill? :-

Careful now HT, I was brought up in Cranhill. Any similarity to the streets of Baltimore is purely coincidental.

On the wire v sopranos debate, loved them both but Breaking Bad was better!

  9. We might have a decent chance of holding KT as he is a genuine Tim, any imports who do extremely well and attract interest from the Premiership or top European Clubs ares almost impossible to hold.

If a player wants to leave and “his head is elsewhere” what can you do. Yes you could refuse him the move but you run the danger of him downing tools and running down his contract.

It’s a sad fact of life, we cannot compete on the wages front and whether we like it or not foreign players prefer to play in grounds like Old Trafford or Anfield to playing in Inverness & Rugby Park,

If Moussa kicks on we will lose him, hopefully we will get two seasons and a barrow lad of cash but beyond that just get on with it. It’s not anybody’s fault it’s just where we are in the Football food chain.

  10. SFTB…

Tony,Uncle Junior,Christopher,Silvio,Paulie:the five main reasons it’s Sopranos for me.

The humour was better, although The Wire had it’s characters,no doubt, but Bing beats Baltimore.

Although,it is all subjective. My folks love Heartbeat?!? ;)

  11. Oz Bhoy

I have a great story about taking my mate back to Belrock St one cold Wednesday night when a game at Dunfermline had been called off!

Still got 2 series of The Sopranos to watch. BB was fantastic. Brilliant characters with an encapsulating plot.

  12. Babasonicos

For me- The Wire killed off major characters because, in real life, it isn’t just the 2 Star Trek guys with the different jumpers that lose their lives when danger threatens.

The randomness of violence, the lack of glamour in thuggery and the desperate continuing failures of well meaning people were all better portrayed in The Wire. There is not one single hero in the piece.

For me, The Sopranos, like The Godfather movies, though not as blatantly, tended to play up psycopathic killers as a wee bit more interesting and complex than they tend to be in real life.

  13. Corkcelt

Sadly, that’s the reality. KT is a Tim but he’ll have spent most of his teenage years playing at weekends rather than going to watch Celtic. The attachment that many of us old guys have has been garnered and developed through decades of paying to watch Celtic on a weekly basis.

KT seems absolutely genuine and clearly loves the relationship he has with the support. I hope deeply that this will keep him with us for longer than I expect.

  14. Increasingly these days I can’t tell the difference between the Huns and even

    So called Celtic supporters.

I’m sorry if that offends many of you but really we are in the realms of generally talking about excrement.

Pauls increasingly desperate leaders are focuses on a young kid whom we played at a level far senior for his years. If he deserved to play at that level then great. All this focus is nonsense. Even more so if prompted by our normal prejudice media.

Basically you at being told Hiw excellent and beyond reproach those who run Celtic are. Basically you are asked to forget everything that has gone before.

    It’s frankly insulting.

I’ve watched for over a decade now as CQN has become a parody of hat it purported to be. It is lazy journalism.

I’ve also watched as CQN has become a vehicle for right wing politics ( to be fair alongside many other websites and movements).

I used to be proud of CQN. Now I am ashamed.

Maybe that’s my fault. But at least I recognise my mistakes.

I remember the Saturday morning trips to St Albert’s when we had to change outside.

A shower was the cauld sponge on yer nether regions :-)

  16. SFTB

There are no performances in The Wire, great as some were, to match those of the late James Gandolfini and Edie Falco.

And the comedic light-relief provided throughout the seven series of The Sopranos is way ahead of any in The Wire, from what I can remember.

The Pine Barrens episode could have come from the pen of John Sullivan, such was the standard of the comedy of the Paulie/Christopher double act.

Both magnificent tv, but Noo Joisey mob for me.

  17. HT- a Queenslie bhoy…The Sopranos is the best if all time for me….i seen a few similarities growing up….hope you and the Minx are well HH

  18. HT, I think KT will go eventually but I am hopeful he will stick around for a few years.

Imports who “Love Celtic” and “Love the Celtic Fans” will be issuing a lovely farewell Tweet, then next interview, How great their time with Celtic was but they are a “Spurs” “Southampton” or whatever player now and they are there to do a job for their new Club. 2 months down the road they will love the “Spurs” or “Southampton” fans.

Anybody who thinks any different are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Every now and again a player arrives who breaks the mould, I am thinking of Henrik.

If Henrik was in his prime with us now, with the millions sloshing around in today’s game would he still stay 7 years.

  19. SFTB

All excellent, agreed, but Gandolfini is rarely off the screen throughout, his is a tour de force among so many great performances, including those of Nancy Marchand and Aida Turturro, as the mother and sister.

Certainly stronger female characters in The Sopranos, though you wouldn’t know it from Babasonicos’ post!

  20. Always liked stats – one being the fastest hat-trick scored in 90 seconds by Tommy Ross of the club with the eponymous name vs Nairn County in 1964.

    90 seconds. Awesome.

Unfortunately this means i also look at fastest OG’s scored or number of OG’s scored in a game.

Which brings me to Andy Lynch.

Too young to remember him clearly enough but can still re-call his 2 reverses against Motherwell – even with Pettigrew in their team (i think).

I used to collect the Panini’s and after that day i got Andy in just about every pack i opened. I think the going rate was 5 Andy’s for one Daniel Fergus, his opposite wing defender.

I remember his penalty against the Huns – incidentally Offcom find the term Hun, inoffensive – in 77??? Which i couldn’t believe King K didn’t take. He scored.

Remember he was captain at some point but unsure for how long.

My main point is that we have had many great servants and while not being in the superstar KK class, i’d count Andy as a great servant to our club.

    HH Andy

Henke stayed because he was promised £1m pounds. The support paid it when we attended his testemonial.

In my opinion he deserved it but it shouldn’t have been us who had to pay the additional money.

  24. Neg, Vast majority of posters on here tend to be good ghuys. There are a few right wingers and a few assholes but they are a small minority.

I don’t agree with many of Paul’s leaders but I respect the man for giving us this site and I also respect his right to air his opinion.

He never objects to either of our opinions and I’m sure he often thinks we are talking pish.

Neither you or I have a divine right to be entertained by the site. Personally I try to add something to the site, that from time to time might interest others.

Usually I fail but I do try, so maybe you should ask yourself what you bring to the site more than what you get out of site.

Quite genuinely I find you an intriguing poster and I think you would be a loss if you packed it in completely. As I have said to you before I often agree with some of your points but I feel your one dimensional approach erodes your credibility.

I have lived on the planet for almost 69 years and one thing I have learned is very rarely are things as black & white, as you paint them.

Anyways that is me done for the night, so good night & God Bless All.
