Good Friday is just another Friday for you

1828

Sometimes it seems there is a constant struggle underway for the heart and soul of Celtic.  It is incredible that for 125 years a community has managed to retain the conviction to help the less fortunate which drove forward those who formed the club.

Scarcely a day goes by without me receiving a message from someone offering to help those in need.  This week it was tables for the Wayside Club Gala Dinner (Saturday 27 April, check it out here), someone send in a box set of the Byrds, to raise money ‘for the homeless’, and a reader parted with a precious top signed by the Seville team, which I’ve to collect in Glasgow.

Much of this goes on below radar but when a call to arms is needed it goes out in impressive clarity; the Wee Oscar campaign slipped into an infrastructure established when Kano took ill a few years back (hope you are doing well, Kano and we hear from you soon).  Believe me, some of the work, and many of the discrete donations, would blow you away.

None of this is random.  At some point each and every person who has stepped forward did so, knowingly or not, because of the way the Celtic Movement infected them.

A number of Celtic fans, and one former treble winning captain, are helping the Celtic Charity this year with the objective of encouraging each Celtic fan to raise £125.  It feels like the right thing to do and if you’ve not brought yourself up to speed with the project yet, do it this weekend (more information here).

There will be formal events throughout the year but if you want to do a sponsored run/walk/cycle/jig, this is your invitation.  You are reading this stuff because of your link all the way back to that hall in the Calton; get involved and earn your place in that 125-year-old story.

The next major event is a mass huddle at the top of Ben Nevis, check it out here.

Enjoy your Easter holiday – but not before you get involved………

For many decades, there was only one team in this Country ‘catered’ for, other teams were treated as ‘bit players’, AND 1 TEAM WAS OPENLY DESPISED, WITH AN AGENDA IN PLACE TO SEND THAT TEAM ‘BACK TO IRELAND’……. Get on with it, ya shower of twats ….we resisted, and we won…….HAIL HAIL TO THE BHOYS IN GREEN, WHITE AND GOLD……..!!!!!!!!

    How low are Daly’s?

I noticed last night Tontine Tim referring to him as a WestBrit. Would that suggest he might be a soup taker?

  5. Statement from Hamilton Accies- looks like a schism developing within the SFL.

    Friday, 29 March 2013 18:40

Chairman Les Gray has issued the following statement on Friday evening following the meeting of SFL clubs yesterday.

“After a near 7 hour meeting at Hampden yesterdayI would like to summarise the club’s position as follows –

The club are deeply disappointed with the outcome of yesterday’s meeting. We met around a month ago when the indication was that some 27 clubs were broadly in favour of the structural changes and principles on the table. It now appears that only 14 clubs are in favour of the package of changes. These include a new set up of 12 12 18, one governing body, a much fairer distribution model, more promotion and relegation places and, in my opinion, many more exciting games. The SPL clubs have moved considerably from the position they held a few seasons ago when we were part of the reconstruction debate, and my feeling is that if we do not embrace the changes now they may never happen. It has always been my intention to try and find a 42 club solution. However it appears that lower league clubs, either through self interest or indeed for other reasons, feel they cannot support the structural changes on offer. With this in mind I am compelled to investigate all the other options available to the First Division clubs and as a result I lead a party of 9 clubs to a meeting with Neil Doncaster after yesterday’s meeting. I am still hopeful that after the SPL clubs vote on 15th April that the SFL vote may be different but I have to be honest and say I cannot see that happening. We hope that common sense will prevail but in the interim we cannot sit back and let other clubs determine our busines smodel and finances in a fashion which will be a huge disadvantage to the club. As a simple example we finished 4th last season with a distribution from SFL of £50k, and under the new model that figure would be £300k with 4 positions up for grabs for promotion. I hope that this short summary goes some way to communicating to our fans that we are doing all we can to protect the financial future of the Accies and at the same time ensure that full time football is sustainable in the second tier. Les Gray, Chairman

Can only be good for youngsters to come up against different types/styles of teams.

Though we do tend to be a good match for most at that age…then it changes.

Blood & snotters fitbaw seems to kick in, literally :O(.

  9. IMO the John Daly signing/ not signing is a win-win situation.

    1) He’s getting himself in the shop window (before his contract runs out).

    2) If he does sign it breaks another taboo – no 1st team ROI player since WW2.

    3) It will alert other RC players as to why it would be a problem to sign for them.

    4) A serious wedge of the knuckle-draggers will walk away.

    5) Their season ticket numbers will drop.

    6) Sally’s position could become untenable (results depending on JD performance).

On the plus side – maybe some of their more enlightened will eventually end up as the majority of their support – though this might be wishful thinking on my part!

  10. Re the C&C sponsorship. Celtic are advertising their flagship product, Sevco a more localised UK product. There is no doubt that Celtic are receiving multiples of what Sevco are getting for their shirt advertising. In a sense its ideal as it highlights the differential between the Clubs in the starkest of manners. Re Daly, most on the dark sides blogs don’t want him, not sure if people will actually walk away because of him but it will be just another straw of discontent on the camels back. Many of them are now openly questioning Chuck’s stewardship, Share Price falling, attendances dropping. Suspending Sandaza, Chief Scout, Physio fired its all going one way.

Their gear is next to the donnay rail in sports direct… their middens crumbling….. their new team are worth nowt…. all deals will be on a par ( no pun intended )

  12. I certainly wouldn’t blame Daly for signing for Sevco. The man has a family to support.

Anyway, had enough of ESPN showing diddy third division teams over Celtic and cancelled today. Told the guy why and he said I was the second Celtic fan to cancel that day for that reason.

No idea and don’t care if he has.

Hope you’re well and are you still in touch with N90?

  15. Small matter of fact.

If John Daly does sign for Sevco he will indeed be the first Irish Catholic to play for that club, but given a mere 8 month existence it is hardly noteworthy.

Rangers on the other hand never managed it in decades, did they ever?

Sevco aren’t Rangers, Rangers aren’t Sevco.

Sorry to be a pedant, well actually not sorry.

  16. Apparently Kenji Gorre, an 18yr old winger released from Man United is currently on trial with Celtic. Anyone got any more info re this lad.

  20. Lets not start calling John Daly a soup taker.

This blog is surely better than delving into brash statements more akin to FF.

If John Daly earns more dosh and feels no anguish playing for Sevco then

let him be. Like most in his chosen profession the bottom line in the payslip

talks louder than allegiance to any particular team.

Despite being a reasonable player who can be used in both centre half

and centre forward positions his age (31) and history of injuries hardly

fit the profile of buying & selling to make a profit.

The many bigots among the zombies will struggle to show any vocal support

for this guy if he signs. His choice. Good luck to him he will need it .HH

Ok, the way I see it is Celtic are a business first and foremost, who happen to run a football club.

The supporters have taken over the roll of the charity work, and they do a wonderfull job, the club do a bit, but nothing like I would expect imo, considering the background of the club.

Any business who have had their main competitors steal way over 100 million from them would have taken action through the appropriate channels to recover said money.

Their main competitor has been proven to break all the rules of the game to steal this money, the governing body has been proven to facilitate Celtic’s main competitor in the breaking of the rules to aquire way over 100 million, that is a conservative estimate btw.

And what do Celtic do to recover said money, or even look for retribution for the people who have defrauded them ?

Answers on the back of a stamp…….

Aye, people will give up, nothing is surer.
