Good luck to Ange having to pick a strongest 11

Celtic certainly didn’t have the fluidity we saw at times last season, but they comfortably got the defence of their title underway against Aberdeen yesterday.  The visitors, playing their fifth competitive game of the season, did a decent job of denying Celtic space inside the box, but could scarcely construct an attack worthy of the name at any point during the game.

Earlier in the summer we discussed the need for a central defender to break through the lines, as Kristoffer Ajer did so effectively.  On one notably occasion in the second half, Stephen Welsh carried the ball forward 30 yards, causing havoc in the Aberdeen midfield.  We are going to face a lot of packed defences this season, overloading with a ball-carrying centre half is an important tool to assist.

Stephen’s more important contribution came when he headed home from a corner in the third minute.  He remains our most effective aerial target, as long as Christopher Jullien is not in the line-up.

After that promising start, the expected avalanche did not materialise.  Passing was too wayward.  Threat levels increased when Giorgios Giakoumakis, David Turnbull and Liel Abada replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda.  The departing three had been unable to make a telling contribution to events.

Delighted with the win; the passing will improve.  Good luck to Ange having to pick a strongest 11.

Bizarre and very nasty take on my post. I have a family commitment on the Saturday. Does my expecting the game to be played on the Sunday really mean I think the world revolves around me?

It is clear that some supporters have made arrangements and committed money to the Saturday because the game is still listed on the Saturday. The EL play-off draw is tomorrow, after which the game will be switched to the Sunday. Why do they have to wait for the draw before doing so?

Maybe I should apologise to the blog for mentioning it.

at a guess I would say they dont announce fixture moves until they get the approval form the tv companies on what they want to show.

Great comments BTBGHF – true global legends and Scottish MSM legends. Maybe the CL cohort are wising up and are getting more switched on and starting to look through cleaner lenses and that’s why some of the sevco “great prospects” are not attracting offers, maybe without the SFA and institutional protection they are seen for what they actually are – journeymen who without the tainted Scottish ingrained institutional “we are the people” ignorant mentality are very ordinary – like all these biases, with the passage of time they dilute – end of fooling all of the people all of the time are nearing – Clyde 1, BBC, Sky sports etc

Loved Big Yogi in the 60s & 70s. He could blow hot and cold at times but on his game he was unplayable.

I had an uncle who worshiped Yogi and on our way to games on the supporters bus we’d often hear the loud proclamation – FEED THE BEAR.
