GOODBYE, GRIFF

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has agreed to join Dundee on a season-long loan.

The temporary transfer will almost certainly bring down the curtain of the 31-year-old striker’s Celtic career.

Griffiths had a 12-month extension activated on his Hopps contract in June by Ange Postecoglou, but has failed to play in a competitive game and it looks all over for the former Scotland international as he heads for Dens Park, as CQN reported at the weekend.

The once-prolific hitman, who netted 123 goals in 261 appearances for the Parkhead men since being signed in a £1.2million deal from Wolves by Neil Lennon in January 2015, has netted a mere 25 strikes in the past three uears as he has been beset by problems on and off the field.

Griffiths previously made 47 appearances for the Dens Park club during a two-year spell between 2009 and 2011, scoring 21 goals.

He will link up again with Tayside boss James McPake who is a former team-mate from their days at Livingston and Hibs. The forward is poised to make his debut against Livi at home a fortnight on Saturday, according to Sky Sports News.

The one-time Hoops fans’ favourite had also been linked with a move to his boyhood Easter Road idols and Aberdeen, but settled for a return to Dundee.
