Goodbyes and appreciation

150

I’ve always had an issue singing “We don’t care if we win lose or draw”.  I don’t know what games Glen Daly attended back in the day, but you and I sure care if we win lose or draw.  However, that is parked for tomorrow.  The league title is in the bag and during the game we can look forward to the trophy presentation, with a Scottish Cup Final to come.

St Johnstone need a win to save themselves from the consequences of making Craig Levein manager. Otherwise, Ross County will survive four months this season with Malky McKay in charge.  Not being up to task for County is, apparently, good enough for a top job at Hibs.

Tomorrow, St Mirren will surely be less intense than they usually are when visiting Celtic Park.   Early season form was enough to get them into a European qualification place, but they’ve won only once since 2 March and will surely want the door closed on the season.

Top of Brendan Rodgers’ priority list will be to have his squad in the best possible shape for next week’s cup final.  That could mean resting those carrying knocks and strains (Alistair Johnston), those just too valuable (Cameron Carter-Vickers), while fine-tuning the fitness of others (Reo Hatate, Callum McGregor).

The home crowd will say goodbye to Joe Hart and it’s possible a few others already know they are on their way this summer.  All deserve credit and appreciation for bringing home the gold and glory these past few years.

Remember, it’s a 12:30 kick off!

I think we will start with a strong team, and try to keep Wednesday’s rhythm going, after an hour sub CCV, Callum,Maeda……80 minutes Big Joe subbed for an ovation….

Resting players/playing your strongest team, a major dilemma for any manager with a Cup Final a week away. However, to be fair to him Brendan Rodgers will get the balance right, you want your players playing at a good pace and intensity but also don’t want to risk injures. Hard to wind down one week and ramp up for another.

    In Brendan we trust

    Hail, hail to the Champions!

I should have waited for you to post, that’s what I was trying to say, you said it better!

  5. I know I’ll get eviscerated for this but Holm and Vata had faces like well skelped arses after final whistle on Wed. Might be for the off or didn’t feel it was their party. Conversely, Nawrocki was having a ball

  6. Damn it.

Ive been a bit unwell for most of the week, but last night I thought I would be okay to meet one of my younger Brothers and his Wife, for a chat and a Wee Bevvy Today ?

Ive had to cancel the meetup as I am too unwell to go out anywhere.

Nothing serious, just a very dodgy Tummy and feeling sickly.

Maybe one day I will ” MAN UP” and get out and about ?

I was looking forward to many Beers Today to celebrate the Celts being Champions again, but it aint happening.

    Boo Hoo.

Those of us who attended games in the late fifties and early sixties had no choice . We drew and lost so many games, home and away but still turned up on the following Saturday. It wasn’t that we didn’t care, we did. It was more a case of, we don’t care if we win lose or draw, we’ll still be here next week.

I think it’s long been known that Vata is impatient to play first team football and has been negotiating his move, against parental advice, for some time.I hope he goes somewhere that will let him play because, if he aims too high, he will only be a fringe player at a big club. Celtic offered him a loan move if he signed an extended contract but Rocco wants to go now.

Holm is a stranger one. No-one watching him on the field with Celtic can be disappointed with his ability and skill set. His only error was the stupid red card in our first CL game with Feyenoord. If he’s leaving, I hope we let him go somewhere on loan in England where he can shine like Mikey J and we have the option of a developed player returning or a chance to sell him in an inflated market.

Like Lagerbielke, these guys are good enough to play for us but won’t be happy not playing for us. I’m happy to let Brendan take the decision based on him seeing them 6 days a week as opposed to my occasional view of their play.

I think the line was meant to suggest that the supporters were there for the team no matter what the results were as we were in a lean period when the song was written and released.

There is certainly an element in the support now for whom that does not apply.

  12. Always think wee Glen was also referring to the Celtic way of playing good attractive football. You could argue that our all out attacking football cost us in the 80s and early 90s , as the game became more tactical.

But now we have a wider pool of players we can integrate more easily into our style of play ….. compare and contrast with the blootering of the football across the city

It might be the 90s kid in me but I don’t care as long as I see effort, teamwork and an attempt to entertain/play nice footie. If we get beat due to a worldie or a bad deflection or we draw 0-0 when on another day we might have had a good win then I’m not too down. I still love Tommy and Ange’s teams style even if they are seen as naive in the approach.

There are definitely a lot of fans now that not only care if we win lose or draw but also care a ridiculous amount if we hit a wee layoff too soft/hard?!

There are definitely times when it’s hard not to care – e.g. after being robbed like Hearts away etc – “Always look on the bright side of life” doesn’t pick up my spirits at times like that where as it still works fine for most bad results.

Sighs. Watched the R2ngers game in CR7 place with the occasional heckle from a couple of Man City fans. Told them at full time what they could do with their king and their slave trade oil money.

i just got an email from celtic saying i have been successful in the 2nd ballot for the cup final.

which is strange because i got one in the first ballot 😆

unfortunately it wont let me buy another one on the web site when i tried

    bugger 😆

  17. !!Bada Bing!! on

Folk who got tickets in the first ballot are getting tickets in the second ballot, shambles

  18. Looks like a cock up with emails going to folk who already had been successful in first ballot as well as those who were successful in second ballot. Worth checking your emails if you, like me, didn’t get one first time around.

  19. lets all do the huddle on

it is an admin issue and you cant actually buy a 2nd ticket. the system doesnt let you.

  20. Just read that I have qualified for another cup final ticket. Only to be told when I tried to get it that I didn’t qualify. Looks like something has gone haywire on the digital world.

Easy mistake, but they’ll be regretting it when the complaints start flying in. 😳🤷🏼‍♂️😂

  24. that will be the same ticket office that has made the mistake of not releasing all the seats for someone to buy at renewal time.

like my old one, nobody sat in it all season long.

    Hi everyone.

It’s been a while since I posted on these pages. Was catching up on the posts over this brilliant week when I noticed a few folk commenting on not renewing the season tickets. Unfortunately, I won’t be renewing either. I missed too many games over the past couple of seasons for a variety of reasons and I don’t foresee those changing anytime soon so it’s difficult to justify the expense. After 28 seasons since the Lisbon Lions stand was opened (it was just the East Stand back then) I have sat in section 113 and, although there have been lows, it has been a privilege to watch this club over such a successful period.

It’s going to be a brilliant day tomorrow. A title party in the sun at Paradise. A wonderful last game in ‘my seat’ but It will feel a little strange leaving the stadium knowing it’s unlikely I will be there when the flag is unfurled at the start of next season.
