Gordon positioning, return leg fitness exercise

526

The immediate benefit of last night’s 0-3 win away to Alashkert, is that the manager can use Wednesday’s return game as an opportunity to get squad fitness to the required level, without having to worry about qualification.

We have 180 minutes football to get ready for Rosenborg or Valur.  The former are 16 league games and five months into their season.  And you do not need to be reminded, Rosenborg dusted themselves down after defeat to Celtic last season to end Ajax’ interest in European football before the end of August.

Did you notice Craig Gordon seemed anchored to his six yard box, allowing space between him and the defence for long balls to be pitched into?  Not sure what the plan was here but it didn’t help.  There is a newness about the defensive line-up which would benefit from the keeper taking a more active role.

Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele looked a real handful.  Both held the ball and withstood attention from multiple opponents.  James Forrest got a goal and, technically, two assists, although his contribution to the opener was a shot he will try to forget.  James produced the difference between Celtic and Rosenborg a year ago, his experience at this level will be valuable in two weeks.

There will be tougher tests for Lewis Morgan but his directness impressed.

    Dobro jutro

I saw this comment from someone who is from Nairobi

“Croatia has saved us from 50 years of misery. Premier league commentating would be a pain! “World cup winner Rashford takes the throw in and it’s headed wide by world cup winner Young, who scored the winning goal at the world cup. Goal kick to be taken by world cup winner Pickford who launches it high to the head of Young, the same head that scored that winning goal at the world cup…” Thank you Croatia. You did it for the rest of humanity.

  2. I had thought the EBC might have been better today. If anything, it’s worse. BBC 1 programme is supposed to be about news. It is about how wonderful the England football team are and how proud England is of them.

Imagine if they had actually won the WC………….

Off the pitch, Roy Keane seems like a jerk… and on the pitch, he could be a jerk as well. But,on his day, there were few better…

He’s a committed family man with low tolerance for bs, not much wrong there. Prone to a bit of red mist at times but unless you know him off the park that is a pretty stupid comment to make.

Lots of comments from young players at Celtic when he was here about how helpful and approachable he was. Have a look beyond what you read in the tabloids.

  4. Would I have Mc Ginn,at 2 million?.Yes.In saying that,I would rather Brendan tried Ntcham further forward, where the boy has admitted he likes to play, and bring in the excellent Kouassi to partner BROONY.

I know I am not the only one who rates this boy very highly. For his age he has great awareness, great range of passes,I really fail to see why he is not in the team.I would hate to see us sicken the boy,and have an unhappy player.I really think this boy is a very special player.

” The better team won. . There’s no doubt that England have improved . Much less of the hit and hope stuff . Much less of the long ball in search of the big number 9.. Maybe they’re now taking coaching seriously in the Premier League but the players still look as they don’t trust themselves or the ball .The two centre backs are average . Everytime I see Stones I find myself asking the question — Guardiola -paid how much for him ? ”

    Football pundit – Sicilian Radio 12 7 18.

Saw Fabio Capello on the tele opining that England have improved but have a long, long way to go .He attributed the perceived improvement to the presence of foreign coaches in the EPL and a significant shift in the attitude /behaviour of many of the players . He expressed sympathy for a Manager and a group of players who have to cope with the absurd excesses of the English media and the unrealistic expectations of the support .

The England players legs seemed to go after 60 mins. Same happened against Colombia when for the last 40mins of play the Colombians were the better team, and without their star man. If they’d given the dirty tricks a rest and tried to play football a bit earlier Englands dream would have been over long before now.

    From Scummy Media,

All this money being spent on the refurbishment of Ibrox,(I know).Would it not be better to build a 60,000 brand new state of the art stadium.

Where do you even begin to start.

Brightened up more,an already bright morning.

    Hey Ho !!!

There are reports that FIAT workers are intending to take strike action in response to Rube’s signing of Ronaldo . Allegedly -they’re not happy that all that money was spent on a footballer when the workers were being told .Times are hard , Money is tight etc etc…

I’m still miffed I didn’t keep the media clip from last Monday of a Rube suit dismissing the Ronaldo story as “utter fantasy ”

As much as I dislike the media and the pundits and their hooligans I don’t mind the England players or manager. However 3 wins against Tunisia Panama and Sweden in 90mns out of 6 with 2 defeats to Belgium and Croatia and a penalty win against Columbia hardly suggests to me that they will threaten in the future. Reminds me of Oldco in their run to the sacking of Manchester..whatever happened to them ?

As for Roy Keane spent time in his company on a couple of occasions great guy and very funny doesn’t take himself too seriously and canny be bothered with bs merchants..his mum n dad are great company as well ?

  14. Keep either Scott Allan,or Ryan Christie, and punt Koussa, whom what I have seen so far, ain’t going to make it at Celtic, also Ralston, can’t see a future for him to at Celtic.

  15. Marrakesh Express on

Ten minutes ago on radio 5live I finally got to hear an English pundit point something out that I, an ordinary fan, mentioned four days ago (not Martin Keown btw who’s still making excuses).

Lineker, Wright, Neville, etc, none of them mentioned Croatia possessing players with a total of ten champions league finals experience between them.

I enjoyed Keano reminding his fellow pundits thar Brazil Germany Spain etc will all be stronger next time round, a golden chance blown. For all the Emsm post match positivity, as it stands they have only one player anywhere near world class, Kane, who was described as ‘surely the best CF in world football’ by Adrian Durham just before the tournament started.

Since a decent Poland side (who became very good) were underestimated at Wembley in 73, its always been either a press savaging or a whipping up of unmerited fervour and expectation. Nothing in between. They never learn

Toss a coin and keep one of them, despite neither having proved they will make it at CP- great strategy.
