GORDON SET TO RETURN

CRAIG GORDON is poised to return to the Celtic line-up against Motherwell tonight after sitting out the Betfred League Cup win over Aberdeen at Hampden on Sunday.

Boss Brendan Rodgers kept his word to goalkeeping understudy Scott Bain and chose him ahead of the Scotland international No.1 for the match against the Dons.

The former Dundee shotstopper, who signed a permanent deal with the champions in the summer after impressing on loan, conceded only one goal in his four games in the competition – in the 3-1 victory over Partick Thistle at Firhill in the opening round of the tournament in August.

Since then, Bain managed to shut out St Johnstone (1-0) and Hearts (3-0) on his way to repeating the feat in the 1-0 triumph over the Pittodrie side at the weekend.

However, Gordon is likely to take over against at Fir Park this evening as Rodgers continues to freshen things up.

The Parkhead men will be without hamstring victim Dedryck Boyata while Kristoffer Ajer is still a few weeks off recovery since sustaining a fractured eye socket in the goalless draw against Livingston last month.

Israeli midfielder Nir Bitton, who has yet to make a first team appearance in this campaign, is nearing full fitness as he prepares to come back after knee problems, but won’t be risked tonight.

SQUAD: Gordon, Bain, Lustig, Hendry, Gamboa, Simunovic, Benkovic, Tierney, Izaguirre, Rogic, McGregor, Ntcham, Brown, Christie, Forrest, Hayes, Morgan, Mulumbu, Sinclair, Edouard, Griffiths.
