‘GORDON WAS RELIEVED’ IRVINE

FORMER Celtic midfielder Jackson Irvine obviously doesn’t believe in the old pal’s act.
The Australian, who joined Ross County last week after five years at Parkhead, insisted ex-colleague Craig Gordon should have been ordered off in the Hoops’ 2-0 win over the Highland outfit at the weekend.
Irvine was sent sprawling after a clash with the keeper on the edge of the area after only 22 minutes.
But the Scotland international escaped with a yellow card from referee Willie Collum – much to the annoyance of the County players, the Sky pundits and the MSM.

Irvine claimed: “It was a game-changing incident. I spoke to Craig after the game and he seemed relieved. It was so early in the game and would have changed things had they lost a man at that point.

“I saw him coming and he was always going to bring me down when I knocked the ball past him.

“You can look at it in different ways but, for me, if he hadn’t come off his line I would have one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

“The fact he came out and halted me was a denial of a goalscoring opportunity and a red card. That’s my view, but not everyone agrees.

“For the referee, it was flag day at Parkhead and it’s a big decision to make in front of the home crowd. But I still think Craig should have had the red card.”

Irvine had a very good match on Saturday and stood out among the ex-Celtic development squad players playing for the Highlanders.
