Government allows drinkers into pubs as football fans wait

548

Yesterday we learned that the Scottish Government hoped to authorise socially distanced outdoor events from 23 July.  Reports today suggest the club “plan” to have 30,000 fans at games by August.

Before that happens, the virus must continue on its current trajectory, the social ‘distance’ must reduce from 2m and the Government needs to give the green light.

When we are back at football, it will feel more like an airport experience, with temperature checks, travel flow guidelines, sanitise stations, masks and the kind of distancing rules that will make the prohibition on horizontal movement look like a swearing ban.

I don’t think there is much sympathy from the politicians for football’s position – they have more important things to worry about, but what Celtic and the SRU in particular have assured, is that football can be as safe, if not safer, than most other outdoor activities, and safer than all social indoor ones.  When the Government allows drinkers into pubs and beer gardens, they will find it difficult to revert to their usual antagonistic approach to football fans.

Still nothing from Celtic on any of this, which is right.  Under-promise when you cannot control events.  And no one is campaigning for a return, wait until we are safe and be fair.

thanks JB. his daughter asked me to send everyone on here a message from him to say how much he enjoyed engaging closely with you all during the years that have passed. it brought him great entertainment and friendship from many of you and is another aspect of comfort knowing he was thought highly of by so many. without detailing the connections he is family to me and it’s an emotional time right now. So many good memories to draw upon over the tough days that are coming and his light will always be part of our lives.

Thoughts and prayers with Hunderbirds & his family, a terrible time

On a lighter note BBC Scotland at 7.15pm has the 1985 Scottish cup final if looking for a Celtic fix… probably far better than this Leicester v Chelsea game … quite like what I have saw of Billy Gilmour as a young kid he’s not scared of making a mistake and always looking for the ball

I took a wee stroll around Carfin grotto this afternoon with my family and said a special prayer at the statue of St Peregrine for Stevie in his final days, I also prayed st Joseph for a peaceful and content final few days as I did when my mum was nearing the end

Helen also received a few prayers

    God bless

SMSM favourite Billy ‘Billy 😉’ Gilmour looking a bit of a liability in that Chelski midfield.

  11. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Oh dear, wee Billy gets hooked at half time and Chelski look a different team. They are now one up against Brendan, who has seemingly won only 2 of his last 10 games!

If he gets the boot I wonder if he’ll look for a return to Celtic to rebuild his reputation.

  12. (Hunderbirds) Stevie’s daughter has read your kind messages to him at his bedside this afternoon. Your warmth, friendship and compassion is not contained to the internet. It is the heart of what we all as a family in Celtic is truly about.

So sad to hear the news of Hunderbirds terminal illness, every family’s worst nightmare.

For my part I have only shared this dear green place with him, and of course the place and space so many of us share, Celtic Park. Will be missed on here no doubt, dear wishes to the man himself, and best wishes to you, yours and surrounding family and friends.
