Government allows drinkers into pubs as football fans wait

548

Yesterday we learned that the Scottish Government hoped to authorise socially distanced outdoor events from 23 July.  Reports today suggest the club “plan” to have 30,000 fans at games by August.

Before that happens, the virus must continue on its current trajectory, the social ‘distance’ must reduce from 2m and the Government needs to give the green light.

When we are back at football, it will feel more like an airport experience, with temperature checks, travel flow guidelines, sanitise stations, masks and the kind of distancing rules that will make the prohibition on horizontal movement look like a swearing ban.

I don’t think there is much sympathy from the politicians for football’s position – they have more important things to worry about, but what Celtic and the SRU in particular have assured, is that football can be as safe, if not safer, than most other outdoor activities, and safer than all social indoor ones.  When the Government allows drinkers into pubs and beer gardens, they will find it difficult to revert to their usual antagonistic approach to football fans.

Still nothing from Celtic on any of this, which is right.  Under-promise when you cannot control events.  And no one is campaigning for a return, wait until we are safe and be fair.

I’m listening to 5Live with absolute incredulity here. I love Liverpool, the city, lived there for 5 years, but am neither here nor there about their football clubs. Dislike both for different reasons.

I’ve already heard a BBC reporter say “they’ve won the League Cup, and they got their hands on silverware last year, but now they’ve won the big one.”

This is being reflected by the fans. “This is the big one… I know we won the Champions League last year, but this is the one that counts.”

And there was me thinking us lot were a load of entitled drama queens. Jaysus, I’ve never heard the like.

The English Premier League éclipses the European Cup? Away and lie in yer pish!

  3. Good evening CQN from a quite drunky poo Garngad 😂🍻

Big Jimmy God bless you sir, I sincerely wish I could do more for you and I wish you all the best.

You get well and we will meet either in The Lee (Howgait) beer garden or the old shipbank.

I’ve a total guess at the Jock photo – miguel munoz Real manager in the 1960s, aged 45 in ’67.

  7. Tppk them over a week but this is the response I received from Celtic when I emailed them about hearing nothing about this virtual ticket, despite my renewing on March 9th:

    Hi

    Thank you for your email.

You will be able to access this on any device with a web browser including a Smart TV, the programmes will be produced by Sunset & Vine who produced the BT Sport football coverage in recent seasons so we expect a high quality production.

These matches will be broadcast until we are able to bring fans back into Celtic Park safely, there is no additional cost or action you need to take, your access will be provided through a unique login which will be sent to you by the Club, most likely by email.

    Angela

    Charming and so customer friendly.

  8. Best bit was the ‘no additional cost’.

Over and above the £800 plus for my son and I to watch on the same laptop.

    They can feck right off!

This is a shambolic manner in which to treat fans.

  9. ‘most likely by email’

That’ll be the same email that they didn’t bother to send someone who renewed on March 9th.

    Aye right.

Why should any family pay for more than one season ticket?

    This whole thing stinks.

Reading back ” Paul McStay had the opportunity to leave Celtic

    and sh*t it ”

Now that must be the most shameful statement about a Celtic

legend i’ve ever read on CQN.

    Surely that will be retracted?

Dad’s Army – the unseen episodes

Private Godfrey, with the help of the ever faithful Dolly and Cissy, hatches a cunning plan to usurp command of his cherished Home Guard platoon from under the unsuspecting noses of Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson. Does the shifty but financially astute Private Walker have a spanner ready to throw into the works?

  20. I too turned on Radio Five Live last night and promptly turned it off as it was all about Liverpool winning the Premiership- THE biggie in their eyes- even though they are both World and European Champions. The English are so full of themselves that winning their league is considered the most important trophy in the world.

  21. Based solely on my own experiences, a lot of Liverpool fans have Sevco as their second team. Liverpool have a strong loyalist support in the north of Ireland.

So while I don’t really care who won the money league this year, I’d prefer most teams to Liverpool.

Missing episodes were recreated a couple of years ago so write up the script – the cast is waiting for you.

I will be the first to watch – sounds great.

  23. I lived in Liverpool for about 6 years over all. They originally had a following among the orange men in Liverpool but that changed in the 60s. Most of them have an affection these days for Celtic. I was among them when we won 2-0 at Anfield and they couldn’t have been friendlier.

I think since Hillsborough the relationship between Liverpool and Celtic has been one of mutual admiration

    and respect.

Congratulations to Liverpool on their title victory.

Imagine it was us who had not won our own domestic title for 30 years but had been champions of Europe a number of times. Would we not want that title with all our hearts and souls?

Hope the red side of Merseyside enjoy their celebrations to the full in these difficult times.

    I’m glad Paul stayed.

Don’t want to dampen the mood on here but
