Government faux grandstanding a year late

235

There is something demeaning about Celtic putting out daily messages asking fans who have zero interest in attending Celtic Park on Sunday to stay away from the game at the insistence of the Scottish Government.

They have been forced into this by Government muscle flexing.  The Government have zero intention of cancelling the fixture but cannot control that information from leaking through their ranks.  This pantomime will continue until the First Minister, or perhaps her Justice Minister, will concede that Celtic and the visitors have ‘done enough’ to allow the fixture to go ahead.  Celtic’s messaging has been crystal clear for 12 months; we are not the transgressing party, but we are useful to deflect from the core problem.

If only the Government had been as keen to act last March.  They froze when they should have made a decision, allowing 50,000 fans to attend a Europa League game in Ibrox, including thousands of visitors from Germany.  Despite first hand access to the scientific evidence, they continued to divert their eyes until football took the unilateral decision to call a halt to the sport, two days before another 50,000 were due at Ibrox.  A year on and your Government has matured into faux grandstanding around the most important issue of our lives, mark my words, the game will go ahead, this is all false.

Plus Russell Walker…you know what they say about those with a surname for a christian name…

  2. Prodcast ? Please tell me that’s a misprint or are you just a bigot , maybe they will honor STEIN , AULD , SIMPSON etc ????

  3. Congratulations to Jack Hendry in getting back into the Scotland squad, and to Che Adams for the first time. Gives them both a chance of making it to the Euros in the summer. No place for the Griff, and if Adams does well his International career could well be over. Not that Scotland score many goals, we got one in our last three games I think, thankfully Ryan Christie got that, though it was penalties that got us through to the Euros.

  4. Stubbs seems a nice enough fella but adds absolutely nothing to any punditry. Nothing interesting or insightful, no sharp wit, no Keane-like savagery, nothing.

    Boring at his best.

Not sure I agree Paul on Celtic being crystal clear for the last 12 months on who the transgressors are, feels to me that they’ve increased their dry powder inventory.

Why don’t they just publish the 5 way agreement.

What’s stopping them? Could this be the nuclear option you spoke about some years ago.

If it is, it’s time to pull the pin and then we can make our own minds up about whether whats left is worth hanging around for.

what ground are the kids climbing into…Hampden?

  7. When a player goes out on loan with an option to buy – does that mean a price has been agreed and if tabled we have to sell? Does it mean we cannot keep the player even if we decide we need him?

Jack has seemingly become a much better CH while in Belgium. Decent coaching and regular games appear to have worked wonders for him.

Fair point ref Klimala. I’d be looking towards him more as a foil for Eddie, rather than for his scoring per se.

It’s funny how Hibs won their first Scottish Cup in over a thousand years with Stubbs in charge.

Forever an Easter Road hero…decent centre back though. Always remember the late header against the hun at CP…

  13. Probably most will not agree with my comment , but here goes.

I think Celtic should provide a so called guard of honour on Sunday. Like it or lump it, huns won the league.

We always claim to be better than them in all respects, so rise above it Celtic, we are better than that so let’s show the world our sporting integrity. I’m sure if rolls were reversed they would not do it for us, but as I say, we ARE better than that.

After the guard, let us just show what we can do and give then a good doing.

Finally, love the guy, but sorry, no to Roy Keane

  14. So many Celtic fans who need very little excuse to criticise ,indeed slaughter our ex players and managers once they leave the club.

Ex employees who on many occasions helped us achieve historic results .

It actually makes me cringe .

Far too many with short memories.

    I agree .

Celtic should show more class than the Huns did to us .

We should do a guard of honour .

    Then beat them .

The likelihood is we will do neither.

Is it the norm to provide a Guard of Honour?

If so, I feel we should do it. If it s not the norm, then we shouldn`t.

I realise the latter would not stop the MSSM from calling us bad losers etc but, no matter what we do , the MSSM will always be critical of us so just do what is right.

*I remember him coming tae talk to our 3rd year class as some of the older bhoys would soon be leaving. Trying tae enlighten us that there were men out there that liked wee boys he asked us why Paddy Crerand couldnae marry jim baxter.

One of the lhads replied “coz jim baxter is a proddy”, brought the place down.

Got the press cutting which shows the home side applaud Celtic 1964 scottish cup tie at Ibrox.

  21. I phoned Jim Royal to ask him if we should give the mob a “Guard of honour”

What do you think his answer was?
