Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

Tommy Gemmell

We are going to have the one and only Tommy Gemmell on the blog on Friday afternoon between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be available to take your questions and talk about life, football and anything else you care to bring up.  Tune in.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

I agree with your half time “entertainment” comments.

We should have something that is more befitting our status as a champions league club.

I hope you are not thinking that because our season finished yesterday, the blog will welcome a stream of “Vote Yes” postings, especially when misinformation is included.

Despite your polling prognostications, the more informed bookies have Labour at 7/4 to have a majority of seats, the Tories are 11/4 (hardly the favourites you say), and UKIP are 100/1. Currently, the betting favours a hung parliament but, what happens then will determine a lot.

    A minority Labour government

A continuation of the ConDem alliance

    An unlikley Tory/UKIP coalition

    or a Labour/Dem coalition.

As for a putative SNP government banning foodbanks and zero hours contracts etc; you’ld be as well banning poverty and diarrhoea too for all your powers to make these go away.

I am not voting Yes and I had no hesitation in responding a few days ago to leftclicktick’s introduction of the Denis Curran video. I have no idea if Denis wants to Vote Yes, No or abstain in the future referendum so I cannot co-opt him to my side of the argument as readily as you did.

I do not automatically oppose everything an orangeman believes. Some of them strongly hold to the view that today is the 13th May and I am not inclined to oppose them on that point. Mind you, they may not get the year right. However, the Orange Order are going to Vote No, so you should Vote Yes is a juvenile argument. It has the equivalent logical clarity of me saying the wife beater, Bill Walker will vote Yes, therefore you should not Vote No or your wives and partners will get beaten up.

In summary, try and keep a balance between football posts and the, frankly, counter-productive level of SNP posting you are producing, and I promise not to bring pro-No vote boring stuff onto the site.

I’ve always though the condition of the pitch at CP was maybe something to do with the free draining nature of the subsoil due to it being an infilled brick pit.

And I assume it’s technically possible to built a heavy structure on made up ground. Well I don’t assume, I know, but I assume the appropriate techniques were used.

    TET,

I would take a pinch of salt to any remarks Neil makes in the media re his players.

I think that he wishes to change the team’s style next season, by adding the pace that has been lacking.

I also think that this is why he has brought in Johannsen and Griffiths and is not too sure about Snodgrass.

If I am correct, then that would place Ledley and Sammi in the surplus to requirements box, except as back up.

In other words, he was happy enough to see them go.

As I have said, ad nauseum, Stokes, Commons, Ledley, Mulgrew and Sammi, slowed the play down.

All good players in their own right, but too many to play together.

That was the reason for our turgid league performances.

Feardies now scared of the Wee Free’s and The Orange Order rather than look into the fact that the UK governement is just about to ramp up it’s austerity plans, backed by all the main parties after the next general election. 100,00 visiting food banks now, just wait till the election is over. I am likely never to be one of those who requires their assistance but no one should ever require their assistance.

Stay with the nation that afforded us over a Trillion pounds of bank debt while paying top notch bonus’s to those who created this disaster.

Now tyou hit me with your feartie politics using Orange Order, The Wee Free’s and I hit you back with my feartie politics highlighting what we have been told and has been backed up by politicians is going to hit us in next few years.

I think all the mines were filled in when Cardowan Pit closed, which was about eight years before Celtic Park was redeveloped.

According to The Bewildered, the section under Celtic Park was filled in with gold obtained from the Vatican by Glasgow City Council.

Tommy Gemmell signed for us in 1961, the same year that Bertie Peacock (an Orangeman, I am told, so we should have opposed his playing for Celtic) and the non RC- Bertie Auld left. Big Tam was not the only non-RC to join us nor was he the only one still on the books when the two Berties left. When do you feel the Catholics only policy was ever open to valid justification as an attack?
