‘GREAT BUSINESS,’ BRENDAN VERDICT ON KUHN’S £17.2m EXIT

BRENDAN RODGERS insists Nicolas Kuhn’s impending £17.2million move to Como is “a great bit of business” for Celtic.

The German winger arrived at the champions in a £3million deal from Rapid Vienna just 18 months ago and has seen his value soar.

Kuhn netted 21 goals for the Hoops during a spectacular second season at the club and his form attracted attention throughout Europe.

He fired in a double in the 3-1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig at Parkhead in November and was also on target in the 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena three months later.

EURO STAR…Nicolas Kuhn celebrates his second goal in Celtic’s 3-1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig at Parkhead in November last year.

The 25-year-old wide Bhoy is now heading for Cesc Febregas’ Serie A outfit and Rodgers admitted: “We’ve virtually agreed between the club and Como, so it looks at this point that he’ll be on his way, but we just have to wait for confirmation.

“I think it’s very clear, the model of Celtic.

“In the 18 months, he’s done absolutely fantastic for us. He was aware of interest towards the end of last season and that sort of followed through.”

The Hoops boss, speaking to BBC Sport, continued: “Other teams have joined in that interest over the summer and that’s why a lot of the young players come here.

“It’s a wonderful, brilliant club to come to develop and improve.

“If he does end up going and signing for Como then it’s great business all round.”

HOOP HOOP HOORAY…Maik Nawrocki is congratulated by Luke McCowan and Auston Trusty after scoring his only Celtic goal in the 5-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie in May.

Rodgers also confirmed Maik Nawrocki will join German second-tier club Hannover on a season-long loan, as CQN reported yesterday.

The 24-year-old central defender has struggled for game time at Parkhead and managed a mere 18 appearances following his £4.3million arrival from Legia Warsaw two years ago.

The Hoops gaffer added: “Maik’s never really consistently been able to stay fit and really take that spot.

“He’s had a couple of years where he hasn’t quite got the games that he would have liked. So it’s important that he goes out and plays.”

Fellow centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke, bought around the same time as Nawrocki in the summer of 2023, is also heading for the exit.

The Swede, who spent last season on loan at Eredivisie outfit, is poised to agree a £2million switch to Portuguese top-flight outfit SC Braga.
