Great contracts can sink a manager, Acceptable Use Policy

392

There was a time not so long ago when Jackie McNamara was the next big thing in football management. His fall from a pedestal at Dundee United to inglorious resignation this morning at York City came swiftly, precipitated by the loss of three players to Celtic in 2015.

Stuart Armstrong, Gary Mackay-Steven and Nadir Ciftci were brought to Celtic last year by Ronny Deila. Their departure precipitated United’s fall from competitive a SPL club to relegation candidates a few months into last season, costing Jackie his job in October.

As with a lot in football, there’s more Magic Circle than centre circle going on. What you see happen with players distracts the eye from what’s going on behind the scenes. In April 2015 Dundee United went so far as to issue a statement confirming bonuses were payable to their manager on recent transfers. A manager’s contract is none of our business, it’s exceptional that it was made so, but this gives us an insight into what was going on between the McNamara and United at the time.

Jackie was finished at United from that moment, not that he was blameless. In a few years he took a club brimming with potential and put it on a path to relegation. They will remember him at York City as an unmitigated failure, with few redeeming features.

Resentment brewed at United in the months between Armstrong and Mackay-Steven leaving, and that April statement. He should have left at the time, and should only have made trips to York as a tourist (go, it’s a great city).

His early work at Partick Thistle and United marked him out, but his choice of mentors and collaborators didn’t do him any favours. That United contract worked for him on paper, but it was a burden on his career.  He’ll be lucky to pick up as high a profile a job as Thistle or United, which is a pity, as he’s a better manager than his CV currently suggests.

  1. This may not be as newsworthy as Tony Benn’s estate. But myself and 2 mates are just back from Medjugorje and would like to say a big thank you to Celtic FC and the arch villain PL for donating 155 pieces of Celtic kit that were shared out among the various charities.

A lot of very happy faces were the order of the day.

You come across to me as a serious thinker who is prepared to self examine and perhaps look at your opinions with the possibility of modifying or changing based on your life experiences.

I would fully expect you to practice what you preach.

You deserve better from those who purport to represent your views.

That`s about the size of it.

You are a fascist. A fascist Capitalist fool but a fascist none the less. Your support of the Capitalist fascist regimes built on the foundation of Germany after the 1st world war into the second world war and subsequently profiting from the debt mountain built and every subsequent manipulated war thereafter. A fascist like Lord Rothemere (Daily Mail), Henry Ford, Prescott Bush (Grandfather of two US presidents), England’s German Royal Family, Holland’s Royal family who provided free oil via Royal Shell (now just Shell) to the Nazi’s, Switzerland who’s wholly dishonest neutral fascism kept finance and supply from the west flowing for profit to Nazi Germany throughout the War etc. etc. etc. who all went before you. And there are many many more. Capitalist money grabbing war mongering fascist all. However you differ only in that you are a Capitalist Fascist fool supporting the 1%er’s who gain from the on going profitable war mongering money grabbing greed, killing an maiming millions purportedly protecting us from those who wish us harm.

If this was the 1930’s I bet you would be a Black Shirt.

    Just my opinion of course.

I lived near where he lived . I used to see him in Holland Park at dusk ,when he ,like me , was there to listen to the nightingales . . He drank ginger beer in a local boozer called The Windsor Castle –geezer who worked the bar used to greet him with a — ” Squadron Leader me old china “

At the risk of occurring the wrath of Bankiebhoy I find that quite comical. It’s only pathetic if you treat it as a serious article. . :-)

I wonder if they are the first couple to play for the Ladies and Gents teams.?

On another note : As its female awareness week in Engurlund, I wonder why Manchester United are the only premiership team not to have a women’s footie team. Jose Is just the man to rectify this !!!!!!!

First went in 1987, before it became commercialised. We stayed with a local family who wouldn’t accept money. We took over dozens of Celtic strips as our way of saying thanks.

Basically, Erik`s girfriend posted a picture indicating she was `ready` to play against Hibs Women. The DR found her use of the word `Ready` an amusing faux pas as it is used by ” Rangers”

Do they think Celtic Starters at Sports Events simply say : Steady, Go ! ?

    Terrible, infantile churnalism.

  10. Some members in the Unite Union on Strike. What for see who has the right to shut railway carriage doors, I have heard it all now, under labour this is the stupid things if they are the next government, which I doubt,we will have to put up with . Left wingers running a country, no good encourage no users.not to work give them all good benefits, so they won’t work.thats what will see under a Labour Government,

  12. Watching this Aussie game is hard work.Slow, laborious, clumsy at the back, passing out from the back atrocious,Japan scored from such,Tom Rogic would have been better staying home for all the service he has had,or any of the front men.

    Hard work.

  13. VFR

Aye, Maybe. But hey it was not a personal attack. It is my honest opinion of Macjay based on all the posts he has afforded us in his time here. My opinion will not change if Mods deem it to be such an attack. If you are going to write with a Black Shirted view then at a minimum you should be willing to accept that others will form that opinion of you and post that opinion. Capitalism was and is formed from fascism created after the Great War, financed and profiteered from in the 2nd world war and every war thereafter to keep the 1%er’s in power.Yip, how best to profit but support both sides of a war. Henry Ford was a master and even successfully won a law suite against his own government in the 1950’s for the destruction of his plants in Gdermany during the 2nd world war. These are the types of fascist capitalists who our current leaders and conglomerate owners are born from. And guys like Macjay support and represent that destructive power daily all for the sake of personal financial gain without thought for those being trodden on. The very regimes we (when I say we I mean We in the West fight) are armed through partner nations supported by us to shoot weapons built by the west back at us. It started in Germany with the IG Farben the manufacturer of Zylon B. IG Farben biggest financial partner profiting from this gas was John D Rockerfella and Standard Oil.

And so it his continued to thius day with ISIS troops\terrorist firing American made ammunition in Syria. The circle keeps on circling and squaring the Profits of the fascist capitalist regimes of the west.

So the mods can delete away but suppporting the current capitalist regimes without question in my view makes that person a fascist suporting capitalist protecting the 1%er’s who just love guys like Macjay.

My son, who spent 2 years in Australia on a working-holiday visa while I was there, has 2 Aussie friends arriving in Edinburgh today for the Scottish leg of their world tour.

They are very keen to visit Paradise on Saturday for the Motherwell game. My son has got them tickets and he is also taking them on Friday for the stadium tour, a wee welcome to Scotland from my wife and me.

They saw Celtic in Brisbane when Mowbray’s team toured, and are apparently very excited about seeing the stadium and watching a game.

We’re heading for the Kerrydale early doors Saturday.

    Looking forward to it.

To describe the UNITE strike as being about “who shuts railway carriage doors” is simplistic in the extreme and worthy of a typical Daily Mail headline.

So you believe strike action to be justified only where it’s about more money?

Nightjars ? -heading south time .. Evidence from ringed / tracked birds is that they are headed for Botswana / The Congo.

    Locals call them -Goatsuckers .

Last heard one @ 3 weeks ago .. Local guy who organizes trips for UK twitchers told me he had seen 3 red necked nightjars in flight at a bird reserve near Vendicari.
