Great contracts can sink a manager, Acceptable Use Policy

392

There was a time not so long ago when Jackie McNamara was the next big thing in football management. His fall from a pedestal at Dundee United to inglorious resignation this morning at York City came swiftly, precipitated by the loss of three players to Celtic in 2015.

Stuart Armstrong, Gary Mackay-Steven and Nadir Ciftci were brought to Celtic last year by Ronny Deila. Their departure precipitated United’s fall from competitive a SPL club to relegation candidates a few months into last season, costing Jackie his job in October.

As with a lot in football, there’s more Magic Circle than centre circle going on. What you see happen with players distracts the eye from what’s going on behind the scenes. In April 2015 Dundee United went so far as to issue a statement confirming bonuses were payable to their manager on recent transfers. A manager’s contract is none of our business, it’s exceptional that it was made so, but this gives us an insight into what was going on between the McNamara and United at the time.

Jackie was finished at United from that moment, not that he was blameless. In a few years he took a club brimming with potential and put it on a path to relegation. They will remember him at York City as an unmitigated failure, with few redeeming features.

Resentment brewed at United in the months between Armstrong and Mackay-Steven leaving, and that April statement. He should have left at the time, and should only have made trips to York as a tourist (go, it’s a great city).

His early work at Partick Thistle and United marked him out, but his choice of mentors and collaborators didn’t do him any favours. That United contract worked for him on paper, but it was a burden on his career.  He’ll be lucky to pick up as high a profile a job as Thistle or United, which is a pity, as he’s a better manager than his CV currently suggests.

Interesting article from the Telegraph; sadly, hard to dispute. I never bought into Shami Chakrabarti and think her Peerage was a massive gaffe by Corbyn. If she was genuine, she would have refused the honour!

I do think, however, it’s a pretty cheap shot at Tony Benn who fought his whole life against the elitist system, including battling to renounce his own Peerage. IMHO, a very good man and a fantastic orator. My old man once told me he (TB, not my dad) could read a shopping list and make it sound amazing! I have to agree.

Jeez, you’ve got to wonder about hypocrisy when you have imperialists ranting about how a politician want to school their children when they illegally sit in countries decrying immigration, I don’t remember the indigenous population of Australia being consulted on immigration to their country, can anyone enlighten me ?

But because they were slaughtered and given no rights then that’s ok then, that’s how hypocrites truly work. They support political parties who arm our enemies then send our children of to fight thiose same enemies, I suppose it helps control another lie of overpopulation.

Aye hypocrisy is a terrible thing, those who are forced to make the best of the conditions they are forced to endure are labelled hypocrites because they are left little choice but to conform to a system imposed by imperialists who know what’s best to keep them in power and maintain elitism, try to do something about it and it’s the antagonist that’s the hypocrite. Championing equal education opportunities is a commendable aspiration. IMO does not conflict with providing the best available for your children while there is no equal opportunity. Now if those who champion it are in power and do nothing about it while sending their children to to elitist educating establishments that’s a bit different but as yet the Corbyinistas have not had that chance, I for one look forward to them getting that chance. As usual this article expresses only fear of the growing movement in support of Corbyn and his back to the democratic roots of the party. Labelling them hypocrites and extremists is a sure sign the fear is back :)

MACJAY, that’s not worthy of you on many levels; firstly, citing the Daily Mail as the bastion of truth and integrity is laughable. It’s a rag worse than any of Murdoch’s publications!

As for Caroline Benn’s legacy to her children, that wasn’t Benn avoiding tax and would (most likely) have been carried out by solicitors executing the estate; Tony Benn would have been unlikely to be involved in any of these decisions.

So he bequeathed the family home as a trust? That would be pretty standard practice with multiple siblings; my own will bequeaths my property to a trust to provide for my grandchildren’s future; nothing to do with tax avoidance.

As for leaving his estate to his family, exactly how does providing for your children make you a hypocrite? I assume you aren’t bequeathing your estate to the Adam Smith Institute? That hardly makes you a hypocrite now, does it?

    Cliques are anti-Celtic.

Cliques choose what to be offended by,

Cliques choose to over-look some of the language that is used by certain posters on here, consistently used by the same posters and, they’re ‘not’ Tony Donnelly 67.

The same clique used to try, sleekitly, sneakily, hunnishly to try to get me banned as well and then, came on here looking for pats on the back for being grasses then, when my health issues surfaced….hey presto, the grassing clique ripped up the script and shamelessly tried to make out that they’d been my best buddies all along. One of the main members / pushers of the clique who tried to get me banned, came on here one day, sleekitly posting an extract from a column of the ‘hotline’ in the DR that I used to phone into when Hugh Keevins was in it and, the the extract from the paper had my name and address on it….that was sneaky, hunnish, sleekit.

Ye see, there is only one way to ‘nail’ the grassing. sleekit, clique and, if I could do link things I’d show you.

Imo if the police ask something in todays climate of our club they get it.as they are in total control during that time.this includes cctv.

Just interested in how the data is used.

Are high profile politicians not typically treated in private because of security issues, after all private institutions are designed with security in mind to keep out the riff raff while public institutions are no so security conscious. 24. MACJAY after the work carried out by the late, great Tommy Burns it looked like Islam Feruz would be progressing to the first team soon after he signed. However, whilst he was 15 and contracts were being “discussed” with Celtic that he could sign when he was 16, Chelski came in with a ridiculous offer for the lad and his family (which I believe included setting them up in a home in London) and, as he said, his head was turned. He went for the money and the lure of the big time.

So rather than breaking through to the Celtic first team before he was 17, playing regularly and winning trophies (he could well have won 4 or 5 SPFL medals by now) he went on a road to nowhere with Chelski and his career has hit pretty much rock bottom.

I have (you might be astonished to know) left-wing leanings, but operating in a capitalist society often goes against the grain for me.
