Great day for Glasgow Premiership clubs

157

Saturday saw great results for both topflight Glasgow clubs as Celtic opened up a three point gap at the top of the table and Newco closed the gap on second place Aberdeen to 8 points.  With the Dons next two games away in Edinburgh, before a home match against Celtic, Newco will be hoping Hibs, Hearts and Celtic can make it four defeats in a row for Jimmy Thelin’s side.

Before the international break, Celtic collected the points but struggled at Kilmarnock.  That form continued into the first half at Tynecastle, which saw Hearts make all the good chances.  Kasper Schmeichel has been imperious this season, though, and it would take an exceptional strike late from Drammeh to beat him.

By that stage, Celtic were out of sight.  The opener came on 55 minutes after Callum McGregor’s press at the edge of the Hearts box.  The captain blocked a clearance and the ball dropped to Kyogo, who saw his first shot saved by evergreen Craig Gordon, but the Japan international made no mistake with the rebound.

Four minutes later, a Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn counterattack saw the latter with lots to do from a narrowing angle, but Kuhn’s shot found the top corner of the net, giving Gordon no chance.  By now Celtic were in full flow with Paulo Bernardo providing plenty of evidence to suggest he should be a starter.  He slipped the ball to fellow-sub, Adam Idah, who made it 3-0.  Idah completed the rout in added time with a deliciously taken penalty.

It was a poor day for the east coast clubs.  Hibs and Hearts both lost 4-1 and are bottom of the table.  Aberdeen lost a league game for the first time since March, while Dundee United could not hold onto a lead at Ibrox.  Only Dundee managed a respectable result, with a win over Hibs.

  1. Aye, that’ll be Monday again!

Wee holiday this weekend in the US so I’m off Wed-Fri. Bring on the Brugge!

    HH!

“Maybe that’s what hell is, the entire rest of eternity spent in f*ing Bruges.”

Cold this weekend, minus 11 at Ipox.

  2. That Drammeh goal was a brammehr.

I was annoyed to see two of our mids jog alongside the lad without a nudge or tackle put in between them.

Find myself wondering if some of McCowan and Bernardo’s get up and go attitude might not be better than Reo’s oscillating application in some of our stodgier ties. That wee Aussie nyaff Devlin would have tackled the Drammeh lad if he’s been within striking distance of him for sure.

    Still; mustn’t grumble ;)

Shame wee Mr Heart&Hand hasn’t yet posted his customary post-Hun match debrief on the YT; always good for a Schadenfreudian snigger.

  3. “By now Celtic were in full flow with Paulo Bernardo providing plenty of evidence to suggest he should be a starter.”

I think Engels transfer fee may be keeping Paulo on the bench which is unfortunate as he looks the better of the two at the moment.

Not remotely interested in other Glasgow clubs, but it was certainly good to see Celtic with an emphatic win. Scary to think what the margin might have been if the managers had been in the opposite dugouts.

Now onto the main event. Will have to be fully concentrated. Suspect it could be a much harder game than some have been predicting.

May be right and it’s a hard one. Does BR giving Bernardo a run dent Engel’s confidence ? Or is he hoping Arne will simply click onto his best level the more he plays. He’s certainly playing a lot of footy for his youngish age. And overall, he’s a bigger physical unit than Paolo, I think BR will persevere with Arne least til past this Brugge game.

Surely no one can object to your referencing of the huns in today’s article . Have you taken your tongue out of your cheek yet ?

Arne’s transfer fee may be affecting Bernardo but the weight of it may also be affecting Arne himself .

  8. The link posted by Saint Stivs @ 12.11 is so revealing about the Ibrox culture from its very roots.

  9. Arne.

2nd place on the assists table for the whole of the champions league

    3 assists. 1 goal. 89% pass completion

He is a starter for bren.

  10. Aye. The newspaper report of the time with the club only months old reveals ours and theirs cultures from the very start.

  11. I think Brugge will be a tough nut to crack on Wed and we shouldn’t expect a performance from us like last time – that was a multi year (possibly decade) peak and was so enjoyable.

Brugge beat Villa but Villa had a few changes and the goal was a laughable handball by Tyrone Mings (does he?). Brugge did have a lot more attempts though and they were doing well on Game 1 vs Dortmund before the roof fell in.

Could be a draw but that wouldn’t be a disaster

  12. I think Engels is coming along nicely and expect to see him starting on Wednesday.

I’m looking forward now to 9 months of not having to look at sevco scores and all the apprehensions that come along with that. They’re done for this season. Aberdeen will keep hold my attention for a few weeks yet at least.

  13. Heart and Hand one of my first ports of call after zombies lose.

First saw that Edgar chap on breakfast tv years ago after they won 3-0 away in Lyon in CL.

Along lines of “good results for ALL British teams last night in CL apart from the other one from Glasgow

right enough they dont consider themselves British guffaw guffaw guffaw”

If i remember we qualified after two losses they didnt KARMA.

  14. Apart from a mistake just before the 2nd goal,Trusty looks to have settled in nicely ,he actually got a good block in to rectify it….

Best waiting on the number 55 bus .

The 54.5 bus has broken down 🤪

  16. The returnof weeron on

    The fact that:

    Bernardo doesn’t tend to start;

    Scales is starting;

    McCowan isn’t getting a kick;

    Idah only get on late:

…..suggests that we have a strong squad.

    Weeron

  17. Cant see Trusty losing his place bar through a bit of rotation.Nothing to do with Scales, who has been terrific for us,and will continue to be.Trusty, better in the air, quicker, especially useful in CL.Still, great to have 3 very good CHs.

    All will get game time.

  18. I see Packy keeping up his “Token Tim” role on BBC Scotland,to perfection.Telling Lennon Miller not to sign for us,would not get a start.

Music to his masters ears. The inference being,he would be better off at Ibrox.Just what team would,Miller be guaranteed a place, apart from there?Certainly not in the EPL,maybe the Championship, but with titles, relegation hopes and fears foremost in managers thoughts, would a guy to Motherwell be trusted.

    Bonner,a fekin ass kisser.

  19. Happy to leave selection to Brendan – doing not too bad at present. Players blow hot & cold throughout the campaign – we’re well covered in midfield – an embarrassment of riches really.

I must say a word in defence of Pat Bonner – he is totally honest in his views – I like him that way, and I couldn’t care less what others from different football persuasions do, or say, on, or, off air – but I care enough to defend him.

Packy is a TIM to the core but that’s not what he’s employed in the media to be – he’s on to be impartial and credit to him he always tries to live up to that. He may get the odd call wrong at times, but it’s never ever driven by anti-Celtic sentiment, as some unbelievably suggest, or, malice against other teams.

Pat Bonner was a great servant to Celtic when things were not as good as they are now. HH

  20. Dobwin 5 names troll 2.39

Feck, bet you Brendan is so happy you leave selection to him,you could tell he was nervous about you misinterpreting what he said a la real Celtic fans and leaking team sheets.

At no time did he rebuke Celtic fans called the green brigade.

Packy could be looking for media tips from you – NOT.

crank calling Franco Sandaza luring him in thro your foghorn leghorn ah say,ah say but, but, but approach that resulted in him getting fired Tam.

All on you tube and your fabled imagination(not intelligence) stammering t-to n-new heights.

Some called you a satirist, prick would be a more apt term.
