Greatest fans in the world? You better believe it

1196

Some weeks ago I received a painting of Neil Lennon in the post from US based artist, Joseph Gormley.  We put it onto eBay this week to get our launch our 2012 charity fundraising efforts.  As well as a couple of local charities we will again donate to the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.  After so many Celtic fans have been touched by three kids, Oscar, Niamh and Vanessa, this year we added The Neuroblastoma Alliance who do research work into the childhood cancer.

The auction raised an incredible £5000.  When I contacted the winning bidder and discussed some of the stories behind the beneficiaries I had to insist he took the painting, he was so affected he wanted to return it for another auction to raise more money.  Joseph Gormley was so inspired by the success of the auction he has already offered to paint other subjects for us and I have a jersey signed by the Seville team in the pipeline.

So, if you were one of those who bid an incredible amount but were pipped at the post (and there were a few in this category), there will be another chance soon.

Running this blog gives me the privilege of witnessing so many great works, most of which come with the request of anonymity.  It’s a real honour.

Well done and thank you.

Brilliant effort from the Celtic family once again. You’re too modest to highlight your own part in this but it’s little wonder that Martin42 speaks with such pride when talking about his Bhoy.

Written when the huns were lauding the arrival of PLG this is a tale of me, CQN, Paul Le Guen, Tenerife, Mystery, Deviousness, love, my underwear, a Henrik Larsson Lilo. and a scurrilous CQN poster who used unbecoming tactics to steal the love of the woman who was my destiny.

    Great post.

I’ve long thought that the banner made by the Jungle Bhoys, I think, with the image of Big Jock and the silhouette of his shadow above the words ‘Is it cold in his shadow’, to be the most accurate depiction of our 2 clubs differences.

I thought your comments were bang on.I have always claimed that everything Murray done at Greyskull was for the acclaim of David Murray and any benefit the hun fans shared was purely a by product of his extreme hubris. The attempt by Rangers and certain persons in the media to equate their achievements to ours have always come across as biased and embarrassing. One of my favourite comments came from the legend that is Bertie Auld. When looking at a poll in the newspaper comparing the Rangers team of 93 and the Lisbon Lions,(Rangers coming out top player for player) Bertie remarked that,”if the two teams met it would be a very close game, after all, some of us are in our 60’s now.” God bless him!!

  20. The Van Beuren Bhoy on

I posted this not long after Rangers went into Administration. I’m re-posting just in case Alex Thomson might notice it !

Justice for Ally and Robert !

Should Rangers (IA) be found guilty of fielding ineligible players and have all their titles stripped from them since the start of the decade, we should start a campaign to acknowledge the phenomenal achievement of Ally McCoist and Robert Duvall who will have then led the plucky underdogs of Kinlockie to a retrospective Scottish Cup victory over the mighty Glasgow Rangers in the film A Shot at Glory. Although most of the ‘Rangers’ players were actors, the team did actually include Claudio Reyna (EBT).

Could someone in the CQN community get a message to Mr Duvall (a good, good pal of Jinky) for a comment ? He’s a big fan of ‘soccer’ (http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/2010/02/08/unlikely-hollywoodfootball-relationship-revealed/) and it would be good to get his take on things as it must have been one of the major disappointments in his life. Also, we need to take this to a wider audience – SCANDAL OF HOLLYWOOD STAR CHEATED OUT OF AWARD. Could we get an ‘ I love the smell of jelly and ice cream in the morning’ quote ? Or even a comment from Ally ?

Could pressure be put on the film’s distributors to amend the closing credits to something along the lines of “In 2012, Glasgow Rangers were found to have fielded ineligible players in the cup final and the record books now show that Kinlockie were Scottish Cup winners in 2001. ‘Up the Knockies’”.

As well as Ally, Owen Coyle, Andy Smith and Peter Hetherston were also cheated out of medals.

Incidentally, some of John Rowbotham’s decisions in the final…dearie me !

I remember that clown John Lambie (must have been eating pidgeon food) doing a piece in the papers about how Rangers 9iar team were actually better that the Celtic team.

They said they were going to chase a points total, that is their prerogative. Me, I’d like to see those you mention, and a few others too, given a chance to shine. Paddy deserves a chance and others too. Who knows, give them the chance and they might deliver that points total which does not win us any more prizes.
